Its been proven that playing with helmets leads to more concussions. Guys dont feel the need to protect their head when they've got protection, in fact in the NFL guys lead with their head. In rugby, no protection means you need to make form tackles and you cant use your head to lead or youll literally die. Also, tackling above the shoulders is a foul in rugby. In NFL the "protection" actually leads to more reckless encounters.Jumping into tackles is also illegal in rugby, but not in NFL, thats when a lot of bad shit happens.

The comparison to rugby is modern rugby When my father played you could do all those things you mentioned you can't. Elbow to the head or face was ok same as raking which is basically stomping on a player on the ground with the studs on your boots. In a scrum punching your opponent in the face was normal. But today the governing body is making it gay.

As was mentioned in a previous post, American Football is derived from Rugby Football, but rather than removing 'Football' from the name, America chose to remove 'Rugby' from the name, as Football was the more popular name of the two, but the term 'Touchdown' comes from the action of scoring in Rugby, where the player has to touch the ball down on the ground behind the Try-Line in order for the score to be confirmed. Also want to clear up a little confusion, 'Soccer' is a term that was created here in the UK, but the US and a few other places use it incorrectly to refer to the game itself. There are several codes of Football, eg Rugby Union Football, Rugby League Football, American Football, and *Association Football*, and it is Association Football is where the name 'Soccer' comes from, as is customary in the UK, we like to give nicknames to things, Association Football was no exception of course, so we took the term Association and we began calling it 'Soccer' instead, for the full name of 'Soccer Football'.... though cue a few decades later, we've stopped with saying 'Soccer Football' and are just simply calling it, Football!

A lot of these hits in this video aren't actually legal. In a lot of clips you heard the ref blowing his whistle as soon as the hit went in. That doesn't mean that you don't get hit hard when it IS legal, of course. (This would be why I have rivets in my left arm and am missing so many teeth after playing up through the college level.) The easiest way to explain Rugby to somebody who knows American Football is that it's all rushing plays - any passes must be laterals. If the ball travels forward through the air it has to come off your foot, not your hands. Get that and everything else will make more sense. You'll see that most tackles are effective not because of the bulk or aggression of the tackling player, but a matter of skill. You drive your shoulder in center-mass and wrap up their legs with your arms... and down they go, even if they are twice your size. Get the skills wrong and yeah, you could discover what their cleats taste like. There is no malice in this, they were just trying to break your tackle and keep running. They didn't INTEND to step on your face. You can stiff-arm off a tackle. You can twist and dodge and wriggle out of their grip. BUT... Once you hit the floor you have to release the ball and they have to immediately let you go. You CAN "release the ball" in such a way as you make it available to your own side and a team-mate grabs it and continues the play. High tackles, involving contact with the ball-carrier above the shoulders, are not allowed. You cannot tackle somebody who is in the air, having jumped for the ball. (but hit them a millisecond after their foot touches the ground and it's legal) You can't flip them - this DOES sometimes happen by accident if you miss the wrap-up. In that case your team will stilll concede a penalty but that will be it. If the ref thinks you weren't even trying to wrap them up and control their fall you're gone. Either into the sin-bin for a few minutes or out of the game entirely and you can't be replaced. While you're off the field your team is a man down. (and usually in a world of hurt as a result)

1. Only pass backwards 2. Only tackle people with the ball 3. You can kick forwards 4. Once you are tackled the ball isnt yours. You can push it backwards to your team but if the other team js there then the two teams fight over it in a ‘ruck’. 5. No pads. Can wear a scull cap if you want (basically a padded cap). 6. When the ball goes out you throw it back in perpendicular to the touch line. You can lift someone up to gain an advantage and make it harder for the other team to catch it. Hope this helps

Firstly, I love your reaction! I hope there are many more! 🙂 Let me address a few things. Some rugby players wear "scrum caps" (not helmets) to ensure that their ears stay attached to their heads. Some players will use bandages for the same effect. It's a weird historical story, but "Soccer" is actually called "Association Football". So, the word "Soccer" comes from the "soc" part of the word "Association". And an Englishman suggested it. It's probably the dumbest way to name a sport, but we get to fight over it now... 🙄

Let me give you an idea about rugby. I played for ten years. Had two knee operations for torn cartilage. Three broken ribs. Cracked sternum. Broken teeth while still wearing a mouth guard. Broke my nose 2 or three times. Two concussions, I think. Numerous black eyes. Still. I would do it all over again. On field it was war. After the game your opponents were your comrades in arms. Great sport with a lot of respect. No place for big egos.

I played from the age of 13 until I was in my fifties as a veteran. Yes, I got injured when I played, but not as much as you would think,I was a coach as well. I have many mates who still play in their 40's, but it is just at a club level. I only stopped playing in university, after my doctor told me that I should probably focus on my studies if I wanted to walk by the time I reached 50, ha ha ha ha (too many broken bones by that time). Many of my friends that played higher levels mostly retired in their mid-early 30's. In South Africa, where I am from, we play this game in our junior schools (sometimes even earlier [4-5 yrs old] depending on what part of the country you live in) and all through high schools [13-18yrs old]. Then colleges and universities have big leagues, followed by clubs, provinces, and then national sides, with a few variations in between. Some of what you watched was Rugby Union, some was Rugby League (different sport, different rules). It also looked like one clip of schoolboy rugby was included in there too. (Well worth watching too). Some context for the incident with the guy in red (from Wales, the country, not the animal), and this was a game against South Africa and he bit one of our players in the privates during a big pile-up (The part where Kay says why they bullying him was right after that?). The ref did not see, but the other players did and they reacted, as that is considered very bad sportsmanship in rugby. Many of the hits in the video are also illegal and dangerous, and not in keeping with the spirit of the game. I played a total of 15 years every single week, (6-8 months a year) and you train your ass off in the "off season", then do lots of conditioning, to toughen up and get the body used to the constant hits. A mate of mine from school, who played for the national team, said that they got feedback from the team doctor once who said, after a good game at the national level, it was equivalent to getting into a non-fatal car crash every weekend.

I'm a former rugby union player and coach. There were attempts to introduce rugby to the US in the early 1900's. The American sports council of the time deemed the game too rough and too dangerous and open to injury, so they devised a stripped down and less brutal version of the sport. They also introduced safety equipment such as body pads and helmets.

From someone who has played rugby so much in the past, believe it or back in the old and days America also played rugby the way it’s played today but over America soon started adding stuff for example: padding and helmets, and touchdown in a rugby term is called a try but you have to either put the ball down, tap it or dive to the try line, and for the dragging part until that whistle goes you gotta do whatever you can to either get the ball of them or make them drop it, the thing about rugby is that if your teammate is running infront of you and you pass it to them that is called a forward pass, it is one of the most illegal things rugby, same with you fumble the ball and you drop it Infront of you that is a knock on, so what happens after a knock on is what we call a scrum, so a scrum is with a certain selected team members are chosen to be part of it, and their job is to push the other team while also trying to get possession of the ball, so one person from the other team (mainly the one that passes everyone the ball) will be the one putting it through the scrum and they have to roll it through their own teams feet and hope it makes it to the end so he can pick it back up but if it bounces backwards the ball is still live, anyone can get it, now the part where the players are getting lift up, let’s say I’m playing for Australia and I’m facing up against, I don’t know France, if they get close to that outline, one of two things will happen one, the France player will probably run out of bounds by accident or two, someone from my team may tackle him out of bounds, but let’s say he runs out of bounds, that gives my a advantage to get the ball, now when the players are getting lifted up we would have code words that only we as a team would know, the person who is throwing the ball in says hmm maybe something like secret and it was fake a pass for the far back to the front for an example, everyone will instantly be ready to throw the person in the back up and then immediately switch from the back to the front and lift him up to catch the ball, and it all depends on the teammate that is throwing the ball in, it has to go straight for it to work not only that the people getting lifted up have to be at a perfect to catch the ball and to either catch the ball and hold it or catch the ball and pass it to one of your teammates, we do have one thing which is called a head gear, a head gear is used for 2 things, one so that way you don’t have that bad of an injury and 2 so your ears don’t puff up being in scrums, but y’all’s reaction this is probably one of the biggest comment I have ever made 😅

A few bits of key information on rugby : Each rugby team will consist of 15 players. The team is split into two groups known as forwards and backs. There are 8 forwards (positions include Hooker, Prop, Second Row, Flanker and Number Eight) and 7 backs (positions include Scrum Half, Fly Half, Inside Centre, Outside Centre, Wingers and a Full Back). And here’s abit about the rules of defending and the line outs 👍 The defending team must tackle a player by grabbing a hold and pulling them to the floor. A tackle cannot be made above shoulder height and doing so will cause the referee to award a foul. Once the ball goes into touch, a line out is called. Up to 7 players can enter a line out and any of these players can be lifted in order to catch the ball being thrown in. Both teams can compete to win the ball.

Rugby is a very physical high contact sport. As many comments say, very popular in many countries around the world. Some basic rules/info: 15 players each side (8 forward and 7 backs) and 8 reserves. Once a player is replaced he cannot return (depending the reason for the substitute). Can only pass the ball backwards to another team mate, once tackle and you go down the player must place the ball toward his own side, other players can contest. Guys (eight forward of each team) being lifted is called a line out (ball went out over the side line). Other team can throw the ball in the line out, both contest for the ball. When the ball is knocked forward or went forward, the eight forwards of each team will assemble in a scrum to contest the ball. The team with the advantage will put the ball in the scrum. "Touch down" is called a Try, score 5 points. Kick the ball between the post add 2 points. HISTORY: When the game developed if a team could get to the touch line they could TRY to kick it through the posts, that is why its called a try. USA national rugby team (15 man) not really good. The USA does actually compete well in 7's rugby. Bit different, 7 players aside, quick and fast pace game. Woman's rugby getting big as well.

Most American sports are derived from sports that the British invented. Rugby = American football. Rounders (a girls' game at school) = baseball. Netball (another girls' game played in schools) = basketball. The Brits also invented golf, tennis, football (soccer), water polo, squash, rowing (as a sport), table tennis and badminton, among others. Most of these sports have been adopted internationally, sometimes with modifications. Sad to say that, in international tournaments, we Brits rarely win any of these sports!!!

Sebastien Chabal, this is the name of the man at 11:20. His nickname was 'the caveman' .He was a great French rugby player. the previous action is also Sebastien Chabal (the blue player who dives...) The rules are very strict. All forms of violence are prohibited and any dangerous gestures are punished by expulsion of the player.

This young lady made me howl with laughter the whole time, but the classic was when she said that she would have to look the rules up. Just for her enlightenment, there is a very highly qualified official on the pitch (For sure HE knows all the rules), and on the sidelines there are two very highly qualified linesmen with flags who signal any infringement that theman on the pitch MAY have missed. So take it from me Miss, YOU have no need to look up the rules.

its big in the UK but its played by alot of countries. These guys are extremely powerful. Injurys do happen as youd expect, but they build themselves and train to be able to hit and get hit like that and keep going. A team will generally consist of a mixture of people that are extremely fast and agile and people that are defending brick wall power houses, although even the fast agile guys are extremely powerful (you have to be), I imagine american football is much the same.

Team Composition: All the baisic rules: Each team consists of 15 players on the field at a time, divided into forwards and backs. Players wear jerseys with numbers indicating their positions. Seven substitutes are allowed, and they can be used for replacements during stoppages in play. Object of the Game: The primary goal is to carry the ball over the opposing team's try line and touch it down to score a try. Scoring: A try is worth 5 points. A conversion kick after a try is worth 2 points. A penalty kick or drop goal is worth 3 points. Starting Play: The game begins with a kickoff from the center of the field. The opposing team tries to catch the ball and gain possession. Passing and Running: The ball must be passed backward or laterally (sideways). Players can run with the ball but can be tackled by the opposition. Tackling: Tackling is a fundamental part of the game. Tackles must be below the neck and above the waist. High tackles or dangerous tackles are penalized. Rucks and Mauls: When a player is tackled, a ruck or maul can form. In a ruck, players bind together and attempt to drive over the ball. In a maul, players bind around a ball carrier to protect and advance the ball. Scrums: A scrum is formed after certain stoppages, typically due to minor infractions. Forwards from both teams bind together and contest for possession of the ball. Lineouts: A lineout occurs when the ball goes out of bounds. Players from both teams lift a jumper to catch the ball. Penalties: Penalties can be awarded for various infractions, and teams may choose to kick for points or continue play. Offside Rule: Players must be behind the last player's feet when the ball is played or during set pieces like scrums and lineouts. Knock-On: If a player drops the ball forward (towards the opponent's try line), it is considered a knock-on, resulting in a scrum to the opposing team. Advantage: Referees may allow play to continue after an infringement if they believe the non-offending team has an advantage. Yellow and Red Cards: Serious infringements can lead to a player receiving a yellow card (sin bin) or a red card (ejection) with temporary or permanent expulsion from the game, respectively.

Tackle rules: Dragging shirts and shorts are okay, no tackles around shoulder and up, no tackles when the player in the air, you can’t body slam. Main rules: You cant throw/pass the ball forward, you can kick the ball and catch/pick it up yourself from the ground, dropping the ball on the ground and picking it up would be considered a “fumble” and it’s the opposite teams ball, ball have to be put down in the end zone to be a goal and that’s 5 points

The origin of rugby was the Soule, a game between close villages in which an old sheep corpse must be put in the other guy's place. In roman empire there was harpastum, in Scandinavia it was knattleikr, in Scotland the shinty, in Irland the hurling. Every culture had his own version of symbolic war : team sports come from here.

When you saw the guy “elbow the other guy in the face” it is perfectly legal as long as he isn’t purposely swinging. If it happens through the contact then that’s down to the tackler for tackling with bad technique and too high up. Also the reason rugby players don’t wear pads and still don’t get as fucked up as Americans is because rugby has stricter tackling rules. You have to tackle below the jersey badge or else you get a yellow card (10 mins off the field so your team is a man down) and the opposing team will get a penalty. You also have to attempt to wrap your arms around when you tackle. You can’t just shoulder charge or close line someone like in American football. Also I’m fairly certain dragging people out to the sideline is legal it just doesn’t happen very often. A rugby “touchdown” is called a try. The helmets you see some players where are optional and they’re call scrum caps. It’s a thin fabric cap with spongy pads protecting the most vulnerable parts of the head as well as protecting the ears. Google ‘rugby cauliflower ears’ if you’re not faint of heart and you will see why some players wear scrum caps to try and protect their ears during tackles and scrums 😂. When the player was lifted in the air that is called a line out. A player can kick the ball up field and out of play to gain ground but you have to compete for the ball where ever it went out of bounds by lining up next to each other, like you saw, and then your team mate throws the ball down the middle of both lines and your team mates will lift and throw up a player to catch the ball and then play carries on from there. Also Rugby is played literally the world over. The best team in the world is the New Zealand international team nick named the All blacks. Also rugby players are majorly under paid. I believe the highest paid rugby player earns 1.5 mill a year but it’s usually in the tens and hundreds of thousands. Also when you saw that guy in green get bullied by 3 players they will have been penalised in some way for it I imagine but the sport back when that happened was different to how in is now. You would definitely get penalised if it happened now.

Rugby can trace its roots back to the 15th century and a game that took place between local villages and called Shrove tide football. The modern game was created in 1823 however some of the rules and customs of the earlier games were incorporated into the "new rugby" Some of these rules and customs have never officially been removed . This includes dismemberment, pulling or ripping off the legs or arms of a player from the opposing team. Although this has not happened in centuries, there was apparently a game in the late 1950's in a grudge game between a Welsh and Scottish team where there was an attempt to do so.

Enjoying your reaction to our beloved sport. a Touchdown in rugby is called a TRY. You can only tackle the ball carrier. You can only pass/pitch the ball backwards, or kicking it forward (however the offense who kicked the ball has to be behind the ball kicker at the time of the kick to be onside) 80min full game - two 40min halves.
