It basically means "the black woman walks with style" Celia was discriminated and brought power to the afro-latina woman, kinda like "yes bish im black, I walk with style, and im proud of it." she spoke her voice and was revolutionary. She is an icon 💗 this was also savage back then, everything about it was meant to show everybody what she's capable of. The "nude" part was symbolic for purity or showing her skin confidently and naturally, like saying "a black woman's skin is craved and longed for, you wish to have it" throwing shade at the racists. She spoke her voice with such style and uniqueness, she was herself and she loved herself. That gave the afro-Latinas or black woman in general more power and confidence to be themselves without fear of discrimination and hate. She was fierce and beautiful. Thanks for the reaction.
Wow!!! I couldn’t have said it better. Celia Cruz was a strong afro Latina woman with such pride many of us wish to have. All those people that don’t understand the meaning of this song will be shocked by the nudity but if they’re hey only new what the message is. By the way, she a had a skin tight nylon suit? I was told. She was never naked. It was actually a gold skin tight suit.
@@ria2000rda Yeah, I have the same pride in who I am and aspire to sing with my own voice, not one defined by some school or authority - her voice is so authentically hers. And the "nudity? Uh, she had on a gstring and gold paint as well. And shoes - lol. But most importantly the gstring. Toplessness for women is legal in many places. Andy why shouldn't it be, as men't toplessness always has been?
Tumbao does not mean "style", it means rythmn. She is saying the black girl has Rhythm and she doesn't miss a beat , the the chorus is the black girl has rhythm and even when she's walking she don't miss a beat.
She is saying the black girl has Rhythm and she doesn't miss a beat , the the chorus is the black girl has rhythm and even when she's walking she don't miss a beat.

This is not pornografy, at all. This song and its video it´s a completly celebration about her black-latin proud and this afro-guatemalan model and her nudity represent that. The nudity isn't sexuality represent proud of herself and her herrytage.
haha.... americans and nudity. the "negra" in the video is guatemalan, many of the background people are cuban musicians. the video was filmed in mexico city. tumbao can be loosely translated as "swag". so the title would be "the black girl has swag". as someone else said in another reaction video to this song, "the nudity is affirmational, not exploitative" .
Awesome comment… she does have swagger… can’t help to move like dancing even if I’m sitting when that song comes up in my playlist… AZÚCAAAAAA!!! 😆💚 And in Cuba you also say “negra(o)” or “mi negra(o)” to someone you care about, meaning something like “dear”… Celia really was and will be “The Queen of Salsa” 💃🏻💞 thank you for the love in your comment 🙏🏼✌🏻
That is not pornography ... whats going on with you... I thought that people from usa were openminded specially in this century.....Celia Cruz is one of the best and respected artist in latinamerica
@@TheAdventuresofTNT when this video came out there was a lot of controversy it was all over the Spanish tv Chanel’s her interviews were good I miss Celia Cruz
The nudity here is to be admired the same way you admire a nude portrait on The Louvre. And yes, that negrita has all the swag and tumbao in the world, azúcar!!
To be fair, Celia did not know the video was going to include nudity. The producers didn't tell her until the video was edited and released. She was not entirely comfortable with the idea at first, but friends convinced her to accept what was already done.
She is AN ICON for all of us latinos. Specially here in Colombia where salsa is such a huge genre. Please reacto to the JLo tribute to Celia Cruz. It is amazing
We loooove Celia Cruz, are u crazy! We love Selena here, of course we’d love the black queen of Latin music, music to make you move and dance! And from a woman who knew her heritage and was proud of it and made others proud too😌we don’t have to be of the same nationality to love each other for that!
Celia is perhaps the most famous singer in the Western Hemisphere (rip).she was pretty old when did this song. Some of her stuff from 70s is amazing. There are different terms in Cuban and Puerto Rican Spanish,...think of meaning more like has her own style/vibe. Some of her songs can hear the Cuban terms/slang used not common in places like Mexico
This great singer of salsa passed away some years ago. She was loved and respected. This was one her last production before she passed away. When you hear salsa music...you will be feeling a need to move and dance.
Dipped in gold... I loved that. ✨✨✨ It's kind of fun to watch ppl from different parts of the world watch something like this. It really highlights the different levels of cultural conditioning. Lol! The US is probably the most sexually repressed society that ironically makes EVERYTHING about sex... We're nuts over here. Stay far away, other ppl of Earth. 😁😁😁 Given that Black Latinos are often made to be invisible in their respective cultures & countries of origin, this beautiful sista proudly strutting the streets, unapologetic in who she is, giving all the "I will not be ignored" vibes is powerful. #blackgirlmagic #weoutchea #invisiblenomore #diasporareppinstrong ✊🏾❤️🖤💚
Remember this track is 12 years old Celia has been pushing style and flare to the very edge. Also remember she has movie and TV credits under her belt winning multiple awards for what can only be described as heart shattering performances. She is a goddess. You should try to see Mamma Dolores or snipets of it when time permits of course. sopita en botella
The only? No, that not true please listen to Joe Arroyo, ChocQuibtown, Grupo Niche, Tego Calderon, Oscar De Leon. Pernett, Don Omar, Juan Luis Guerra. And so many other Afro Latino artist I can list. Don’t make these broad generalized comments. In Latin America and the Caribbean slaves were able to keep some of their music and traditions. Which were passed down. Cumbia, merengue, salsa, bachata, reggaeton , champeta, calypso etc.. all have African roots.
The Black girl has swang! Celia Cruz top the charts with this song and she was on her 70s. Mexico City paralyzed when the video was filmed. She has body paint, she is not naked Lol! Love your reaction.
She was adored by all latinos. I know Puerto RIcans loved her and her music despite being cuban. The best salsa music was during her time with so many of the great Puerto Rican salseros. Celia is the Queen of Salsa.
Ladies and gentlemen.. Bow your heads to the queen, the maestra, celia cruz... Azucar.. Or sugar!.. Crazy how she was a lady in the biggest male predominant salsa conglomerate ever fania records.. And she was well respected.. And one of the main artist..
I LOVE THEIR GENUINE REACTION. In Latin America things are a bit different we are raised watching the beauty that is the Women figure. We live in hot climates and their is nothing bad with nudity. The point of the video is to express The self expression of being comfortable with your body and its used as a form of art not in anyway of sexual desire
I work at one of the most exclusive residentional properties on Cabo,I got the chance to talk to this women and she is still one of the most fine black latina women I have ever seen. The place I work a 1 bedroom apartment is 1.3 million dollars from there up to 17 million, she was a guest from one of the house owners.
For true Celia Cruz music and performance, you need to watch her videos with Fania All Stars. "Guantanamera" "Bemba Colorá" "Quimbara". That's Celia... Azúcar!
She also had a great friendship with Whoopie Goldberg. She also had a good friendly association with Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin who admired her alot.
She is indeed the queen of salsa. Azucar means sugar and that was her catch phrase in her music lol. She had a wonderful and joyous spirit, she never got to go back to her home country and she made a song called "por si acaso no regreso" which means "just in case i don't return". Maybe you could check it out if you like this one.
I am a big fan Celia Cruz in the English translation of the song meaning meaning the black one has it. She is one of the creators of afro Cuban music and brought it all around the world she was able to bring it to the Homeland Africa she was able to perform at Carnegie Hall she broke barriers that if it wasn't for her and Mahalia Jackson. I've read her autobiography and it still makes me cry to this day. I remember seeing her on Sesame Street singing about a hummingbird from Cuba and I love her every since. If you have not read her autobiography please get it and read it.
Celia cruz is an icon in our Latin culture who faced many trials and tribulations because she was a black girl from Cuba who didn’t speak English she also faced racism in Cuba because she was black we latinos love her
You've been introduced to "La Negra Del Tumbao, the Queen of Rumba" Celia Cruz she's one if not the biggest singers from Cuba, well Respected in our Island, you can't help but to love her, glad ya'll reacted to her, here's some mora Latin Hits/Classics to react to "Amores Como El Nuestro" - Jerry Rivera "Nunca Voy A Olvidarte" - Cristian Castro "El Cantante" - Hector Lavoe "Periodico De Ayer" - Hector Lavoe "I Just Wanna Hang Around You" - La India "Dicen Que Soy" - La India "Te Amare" - Marc Anthony "Llegaste A Mi" - Marc Anthony "Palabras Del Alma" - Marc Anthony "Ironia" - Frankie Ruiz "Lo Dudo" - Frankie Ruiz "Hasta El Sol De Hoy" - Edgar Joel "Si No Te Hubiera Conocido" - Cristina Aguilera (Feat. Luis Fonsi) "Solo" - Alex D Castro "Cuando Parara La Lluvia" - Johnny Rivera "Imaginame Sin Ti" - Luis Fonsi "No Te Cambio Por Ninguna" - Luis Fonsi "Si Tu Quisieras" - Luis Fonsi
What an introduction to Celia Cruz - the legend! The video was slamming. She always brings the energy and the glamour, and is a doppelganger for my Nana. Love it!
That is my song and video she was definitely the queen of salsa thank you for the hell you went through for Afro Latino Women and you still made it to the top Queen R.I.P
Celia Cruz that was one Dynamite mama I remember back in Brooklyn when I used to walk by the studio and listen to their music and all the other famous salsa singers and coordinators were there. Thanks to the Cuban people that created salsa the Rhythm and dance moves and Puerto Ricans the world knows now what it really means they even Jam this in Central and South America especially in Columbia when it comes to African Heritage Pride and rhythm the Cubans got it down packed.
You don't need to understand the lyrics to feel the Vibe. Respect to the Queen of Salsa, Mrs Celia Cruz. Her music was a light in a very dark moment of my life. Please react to "La vida es un carnaval"
My grandparents were from Mexico and my grandmother loved Celia Cruz it was her house cleaning music. I grew up in this and it's awesome But this video...
Celia was the HBIC. Here in Argentina, we were never massive fans of this type of tropical music. And still, Celia was a legend for us. The song is a celebration of black femininity, beauty and pride.
What she is saying is the girl when she walks she doesn’t turn to the right or left she keeps going straight with swag and confidence I love this song but also check out quimbara and mi bomba sono quimbara she actually went to Zaire Africa and performed that song check that performance out
One thing yall gotta learn is that Cubans don't separate each other from black or white like Americans love to do (annoying 🙄), we Cubans refer to ourselves as just plainly Cuban, we don't look at skin color
@@giggityskull8986 I think that over states the case based on the white and black Cubans I know and see. Of course, given the ridiculous relationship between blacks and whites in the US it looks small by comparison. I also have a vague memory that Cubans were told to intermarry a long time ago in the hopes of improving race relations?....or is that another Latin country?
Not Cuban, culturally speaking raised in a Hispanic family, I found in my family black skin was more celebrated than white. I remember my mom and dad checking out a black woman and commenting how beautiful she is or was. Dad, though we tend to come in different colors, considers himself black mix, while moms considers herself indigenous. The American culture is indeed more divided, which is the reason why they think it is a rarity to see Latinos celebrating each other.
Viva los Latinos, eso es solo una probada de mis cubanos, tienen muchísimos exponentes y ritmos, desde México saludos a todos mis healrmanos latinos que vean este mensaje.
I interpret the song as the woman walks in the truth and is not affraid to show who she is, Celia says she doesn't walk side ways and doesn't hide who she is. It's means to have confidence in who you are and yes feel comfortable your own skin.
she was saying! this sista has sshhhhtyle! and this video is about the Sista's empowerment. Nudity can portray power too! and gotta admit she does it with such flare it doesn't look pornography! full points to you for discussing Celia la Reina de Salsa! And the Queen of Cuba!
This one is more of an updated sound for her. Almost reggaeton tinged. . if you guys wanna dig more into the afro-latin stuff, you will like the stuff produced and/or played by Willie Colon. This one was sort of a "comeback" for Celia when the FANIA craze was going on in the 70s. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tuYVWlQMz48.html
Celia is cuban the sexy girl walking in the video is guatemalan the guy with glasses Colombian the other ones Mexicans you got love latino cultures is just so nice
Celia Cruz aka the GOAT- the model was not technically nude - this is a genius visual representation calling-to-action a self-assessment of the collective, an invitation to humanity to pay-attention-to and to observe the underlying purity of our essence and to expand our mind
Am so happy to see people discovering the legendary Celia Cruz! She was so beloved and sorely missed. Please check out her song Bemba Colora. I believe you'll enjoy it immensely. Also, Dominican merenguero Johnny Venturas' song El Pinguino; dare you not to dance!
