Malaysia has a Motorbike culture, the bikes are used for daily drive like going to work, shopping and other stuff. Some people in the southern part of Malaysia would ride to work to Singapore everyday in a bike and earn 3 time the salary of an average Malaysian worker. Hello, I'm Malaysian from Sarawak in Borneo. I'm one of the 20% living there, I can say I'm Malaysian, but not Malayan, and I'm half Malay, half Bidayuh. To answer your question about the travel between Peninsular and Borneo, it only takes almost 2 hours or less by flight. If you ever come to Sarawak, I recommend you to try Laksa Sarawak and Kolok Mee. Its really delicious, thus, they are also other local cuisines such as Linut, Ayam Pansoh, and Midin. BTW... I'm one of those 20% Malaysian who lived in the Borneo part of Malaysia. I'm definitely Malaysian, but I'm not Malayan, because I live in Borneo, and I'm not Malay, because I'm Melanau, one of the diverse ethnics in Malaysia. Transportation wise, Borneo, especially in Sarawak region where I lived, most people here owned either an AWD or 4WD vehicles. Sarawak and Sabah of the Borneo owns the highest amount of off-road vehicles compared to the Peninsula. The most popular vehicles here is the Toyota Hilux, a vehicle very similar in size with the Toyota Tacoma, which is very reliable. Then there are also other vehicles such as the Nissan Navara(Frontier in the US), Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Triton, and other pick-up trucks. We don't really have any choices but to buy these types of vehicles as some parts of the region doesn't have proper roads built, and some places are like literally in the middle of nowhere in forests and swampy areas. Protons and Peroduas also have their shares in Sarawak, but these cars mostly used in the cities. There was rumours years ago about Proton having a pickup truck prototype, but it never went into production. Edited: Also, you can try watch this, a jamboree event held in Sarawak. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a-N4eI1K-o8.html

Lots of foreigners don't know that Malaysia has two parts. In fact, I've come across some visitors who were surprised when I said I'm from East Malaysia... they thought I'm from the East Coast! Not all Chinese in Malaysia are Peranakans. 😄 There are Chinese and there are also Chinese Peranakan. Confusing, yes. The term "Orang Asli" is usually used to refer to the indigenous people in Malaya while the term "Orang Asal" is used to refer to the whole indigenous people in Malaysia. The indigenous people in East Malaysia now has adopted the term "Dayak" to refer to their race. The reason why non-Malays Bumiputera prefer not to be classified as Malays is due to the federal constitution's definition of "Malay" especially the part where Malays are Muslims but a lot of the other indigenous people are either animists or Christians... in other words, their belief systems disqualifies them from being Malays. The Dayaks in Sarawak consists of not less than 27 ethnics while Sabah has not less than about 35. Oh by the way... the White Rajah came in in 1841. An accidental Rajah. Watch the movie about James Brooke to have an insight into how he became Sarawak's Rajah. The movie has changed it's title to: Edge of the World (formerly known as "Rajah"). The video about Malaysia is very Malaya Peninsular-centric, so if you do get to Sabah and Sarawak... you'll find that the atmosphere is quite different because 2/3 of Christians live in East Malaysia.

Sarawak & Sabah has their own autonomy as they agreed to form Malaysia together with Singapore & Malaya. For example if you came from Malaya (Kuala Lumpur to Kuching (Sarawak) or Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) you will need to go immigration once again even though you are Malaysian from West Malaysia. For West Malaysian if they want to work, live or study in East Malaysia they also need to apply Visa for them to be allowed to stay in the States. All of these autonomy has been agreed in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Basically, Malaysia are two parts, Peninsular And East Malaysia comprises of Malaysian state of Sarawak and State of Sabah. Before Malaysia was founded in 1963, the two east Malaysia states which is Sarawak and Sabah was a British colony. An idea to form a Federation of Malaysia which comprises of Singapore, Brunei, Sarawak, Sabah and Federation of Malaya(not Malaysia yet until 1963) was an idea of 1st Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman. This idea was success by merging all of this countries or former British colony to single federation but Brunei withdraw at the last moment for several reasons and Singapore was expelled from the Federation in 1965 bcs of the rising tension between the ruling political party of Singapore that time, People Action Party or PAP and the Malaysia Federal government on the racial equality

If you guys ever come here you gotta do a whole lot of travelling. I would suggest doing a video on visiting the beaches but would recommend going to the best beaches which is located at East Malaysia like Sabah (Mainly) Then Sarawak, (Peninsular Terengganu and Kelantan.) Even food wise theres a whole lot of places and both Peninsular and Borneo have their own distinct food. One of my personal favourite is the Laksa Sarawak, which have its own turf wars of its own between Laksa Sarawak, Laksa Johor, Laksa Penang where all 3 have the same name Laksa but totally different in terms of ingredient and taste. The late Anthony Bourdain voted for Laksa Sarawak but you guys gotta try all 3 when you guys do come here. Funnily enough my Boss at work is from UK (Leeds) and it seems like hes not going back to UK anytime soon.. so yeah probably Miles you might not be the only White guy here hahaha... For Mexicans i have seen a few, although not much. Probably the fact that the skin tone is so similar its abit hard to differentiate between culture unless you hear them speaking their mother tongue. This holds true for Philippine and Indonesian people.

Great reaction!!!... I originated from peninsular (the state of Perak and i growing up in KL), but i live 3 years in the state of Sarawak (Malaysian Borneo or from you guys perspective, the other part of Malaysia 😂)... I live 3 years in the city of Bintulu, Sarawak, by flight it takes around 2 hours from KL, also i live 6 months in capital state of Sarawak, Kuching City, and flight from KL to Kuching takes 1 hours 30 minutes and flight from Kuching to Bintulu takes 45 minutes... Sarawak is the largest state by area (as almost same size of Mississippi) but less population (as same as Kansas), just sarawak geographical shape much longer than Mississippi... Fyi, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia are almost the same size but population in peninsular much more dense (28 million people)... Idk, i see Sarawak more developed than my original state of Perak just Sarawak lack of highway connection, but overall Sarawak are developed, i think as level as state of Johor...

I heard Chinese peranakan are Chinese who integrated some Malay culture into their own and the mix became their lifestyle which then got them the name. The most noticeable part is the food and clothing. Mixed marriage between Malay and Chinese don't make them into peranakan. Otherwise I would be one of them. Haha..

@@lynncomel The practice of those who of Chinese decent who intermarriage with the so called Malay that are non-muslim but following their father side with the religious belief of the Chinese gods and speak local Malay and dress the kebayan are the practice of the peranakan and all using Chinese names. Hey guys! Was watching a bunch of your vids. Loving the reactions and it warms my heart how sincere you guys are in your interest with the SEA region. Im sorry if that sounds mean, but just we Southeast Asians are often overlooked as East Asia, South Asia and.. heck, the Middle East gets more attention than us. And yes, I am Malaysian ofc, Selangor-born. Anyways, to answer your question about the commute between Peninsular and East Malaysia, airplane flights are the only way of travel. So, sorry man.. no English Channel style swimming across the South China Sea lol. Due to a lot of East Malaysians travelling back and forth from East to West Malaysia because of work or studies related stuff. Same goes for those at the West side. Flights to the East region take about from 1.5 to 2.5 hours.. yep, its pretty long. Prices are nothing to sneeze at, either. But yeah, we all somehow manage and stuff.
