His father was a player for an Italian basketball team when he was a child. He grew up here, not native Italian though: he speaked quite well (not perfectly), with a clear english accent.

They can tell right away when someone's French is not good but Jodie could pass as an actual Frenchie 🇫🇷💅🏼 That woman is amazingly talented & beyond intelligent which is very very alluring..
I really adore the Italian language but I gotta say, I'm above and beyond in love with the French language. It's my favorite language in the entire world!! It's no wonder it's known as the language of love 🫀🗿
Si l'ho notato e mi ha davvero sorpreso felicemente. Loro hanno la "r" muta ma riescono perfettamente ad usarla vibrata, noi l'abbiamo vibrata ma sbagliamo frequentemente, o sempre, la loro.

Does it really matter ? Learning new languages can be confusing enough. Without having to worry about the accent... I'm norwegian. I grew up with english, german and swedish spoken at home too. The problem was learning spanish. A few weeks into the school year, I listened to a program on the radio. What I thought was a strange spanish accent, proved to be italian. This I found out when they mentioned RAI UNO towards the end.... 😆
having a native accent doesnt necessarily make you incredible, ive seen a few french speakers spot that she isnt a native speaker because she doesnt have a native-like pattern when speaking unlike someone who was raised by French speaking parents would (really not hating on her, her french is beautiful to listen to for me) but it really ticks me off when people just see accent as the only factor in learning a language.

E' carina anche quando parla francese, ovvero come la lingua madre, anche dopo tanti anni dal liceo francese che ha frequentato. E' intelligentissima, simpatica, coltissima bravissima attrice regista produttrice ecc. Mollò la carriera per studiare a Yale e poi è riuscita a rientrare nel giro e vincere 2 Oscar. Per me è una delle vere artiste del cinema. Zero scandali, risevatissima, non s'impiccia di politica,l'hanno tormentata per decenni per farle dire che era lesbica. Ma ha passato i 50 ed è calato il sipario, alla faccia delle pari opportunità ecc

Yo hablo español pero tambien estoy aprendiendo el italiano. Creo que el italiano es la lingua mas bonita del mundo. Pero no estoy de acuerdo con el otro loco que dice que aprendiendo italiano es "facil" a menos que to mudes a Italia y aprendas ahi. Pero eso es otra cosa.

EDIT: There is absolutely nothing wrong with Napoli or Italians who come from there. To say that the place is shit, to mock its people is just immature. I had no idea that this comment was going to spark a ridiculous civil war between italians. In no way whatsoever did I ridicule Napoli or it's people, I was only making the observation that when actors (especially american actors) do their italian impression, it always results with the actor making what one may say is a strong caricature of the napoli accent. Hence I complimented the people in this video who clearly studied the italian language, thus proving that we do not even remotely sound like people who scream when they talk. Just look at Hillary Swank at Conan, i love her but that clip was silly. That's how they perceive italian people though, who can blame, the only thing they know about italians is the typical italian american that can be found in the streets of NY. We are all pizza and mandolino to them. I don't mind stereotypes at all, I think they're funny, somewhat true but not to take them too seriously. I'm more comfortable with the mafia jokes than this allusion that Italians all shout when they talk and move their hands for no reason at all.
KOBE was the best Italian speaker of the celebrities but the other ones here did an impressive job. Also, actor Daniel McVicar (formerly "Clark Garrison" from "The Bold And The Beautiful") excels in speaking Italian and lives in Italy now.

Great post. I've always wondered who had the biggest influences on English. Would you say English is more of a Germanic language than anything else due to the Normans and Anglo/Saxons?
@@jasonk3605 Philology considers the English language a hybrid for these reasons: 1- The English language uses and depends on the Roman alphabet (for me that is the most important reason). 2- It has 60% Latin in its vocabulary. 3-it has approximately 38% Latin in its grammar (disproving the legend that says that English grammar is 100% Germanic). Therefore, philologists considered it a hybrid language.
You know it's funny, Italian was my first language and I didn't learn English until I went to kindergarten. My dialect of Italian is so unique, that I don't understand the "perfect" Italian that is spoken. It's like a foreign language, even though it's supposed to be my own.

I don't speak Italian, but I speak Bulgarian fluently. Years ago, I befriended some Bulgarians who were here in the United States on a work-study program. Consequently, I learned their language.
so proud of these guys, especially as many of them dont even have any Italian American ancestry or anything - they just learnt.... to not be a deadbeat mono-language actor (which is what we here in the '5 eyes' countries do most often)....and some of them are my favourite actors too!

Jodie Foster è carinissima e qualunque cosa faccia (beata lei) le riesce benissimo. Non solo grande attrice ma anche laureata a Yale (non una universitá qualunque) e parla benissimo varie lingue. Fantastica. Anche Colin Firth (ma è inglese, non americano) parla benissimo l'italiano e potevi metterci anche Bob De Niro che un po' lo parlicchia...
Jodie Foster ha un bel accento e parla bene italiano e oltre ad essere bellissima è anche una grande attrice. Infatti è la mia attrice preferita...la adoro!
I don't understand why people think we, Americans, speak only one language. all, we only have a border with one foreign-speaking country, Mexico. Thus we are not exposed to it as Europeans. I lived in Europe and it makes a difference. But America is extremely diverse. My family came from Cuba 90-years ago, and I speak fluent Spanish. I learned Italian in the University and my husband, who came to the US when he was 18 and is German, always speaks it so I have picked up a lot. We also lived in Switzerland. German was my fourth language so it became easier. I left , not going to school, but speaking a lot of German and a bit of Swiss-German. My family is Cuban-German-American and my husband also speaks Spanish as he lived in Argentina when he was a kid. Europeans are always so shocked. I also have a BA in Spanish for good measure.
