pigs in blankets (sausages wrapped in bacon) are a all year round food but good at christmas too... we have them many times a year... especially when used in toad in hole... covered with onion gravy a good desert at this time of year is apple crumble eaten hot or cold with either custard or with cream... bisto do a nice cheese sauce tub too i always use that with pasta and tuna dishes.

Did you remember when making it, that our spoon sizes can differ between our countries, plus an English pint size is different to an American one. It should be thick, but not quite that thick.

Our spoon size are a bit smaller so I tried to add a bit more granules, but obviously got too much. It had the water in ml so that was fine. We added extra water, but it was still thick!

Cheers! That wine looks refreshing! I've no idea about the Bisto southern-style gravy. I expected it to be white too! The pigs in blankets style sounds yummy. Instant gravy is so easy now. I remember years ago when my Grandmother made gravy from scratch with the meat juices, some veg water, onion, a little gravy browning and/or some cornflour. She was stirring it on the stove top for what seemed like hours. It was so good though!! Life is much faster now. Have a good week, guys. 😊

Hi Agranda! We enjoyed both and are looking forward to try it with other foods, maybe we'll have to revisit poutine again :) You're right, it's hard to beat the convenience of certain foods where all you need to do is add water and heat such as the gravy, mashed potatoes, custards, muffin mix, scone mix, etc. We just picked-up a couple 'just add water' cranberry scone mix a couple weeks ago, maybe this weekend we'll give it a try. You just brought back a childhood memory, I recall my mother and grandmother doing that as well. Ross here - This sounds odd but I had strict parents and I recall times as a kid, sitting down to a holiday meal and being offered gravy and being somewhat hesitant to take any, I could just see my dad getting irritated "Why are you putting gravy on that? Why are you using so much gravy? What? You don't think it tastes fine the way it is? You have to make it taste better, is that it?? Do you know how much time your mother spent making that??" - no joke. Ah...good times! LOL Hope you have a great week too, Happy Tuesday!

@@FinnLovesFoodsuch memories! ❤️ Blimey, Ross. Your dad didn't cut you any slack, did he?! I'm really glad it hasn't spoiled your enjoyment of gravy and food per se! I think the Southern style gravy is meant to be like the one KFC sell, hence the suggestion of chicken and chips. The pigs in blankets was a limited edition at Christmas, but there is no way in hell instant gravy is getting served Christmas day. My Grandmother would haunt me for ever lol

Hi Catherine, Happy Tuesday! We haven't had KFC brown gravy in years but I believe you're right, it's a must with their mashed potatoes :) We tried a Filipino take-away last Saturday, a video will be coming out maybe next week, and they provided a thick brown gravy that reminded me of the same KFC gravy. Ross here - That's funny what you said about the instant gravy served at Christmas, my mother & grand mother would hold the same stance on any instant foods for holiday meals (I would have tried sneaking it passed them :) )

I have the same problem when making bisto gravy. l end up adding water until it looks right, normally finished with enough to feed the village but you can freeze it. Bangers and mash needs onion gravy traditionally but sausage and chips with gravy are a quick treat.

When i was a young boy growing up in the early 60's my mam would make her own gravy using the fat juices off the meat , corn flower , an OXO cube and mix it with the water from the vegetables and add a spoon of gravy browning , that's how i usually make my own but occasionally for quickness i use OXO gravy granules which are far superior to the Bisto watery rubbish that you've just tried, see you soon

@@TheDirtyClown the most basic white gravy recipe has butter, flour, milk and pepper, but sausage can also be added. Grits are a porridge made from ground corn. You can serve it with cheese on top. It's another dish that's Southern - I never tried them until I was an adult!

Brit here, honestly I have never seen these. We consider bisto to be ok but at best convenient and worst just plain cheating. for e.g you roast a joint of beef right and there are the juices. Ok throw in some bisto and save 2 mins, or spend that extra 2 mins to make a real gravy. Everything is too convenient these days.

Hmmmm… the gravy does seem a bit too thick to be a “gravy” 🥺 it looks more like a sauce to me. It needs to be sort of runnyish with your food sitting ‘in’ the gravy, not the gravy sitting ‘on’ the food 😲 Every Christmas, for a bit of a price 😐🥴 my (ex) Sainsy does a range of fresh and flavoured ready to serve “Christmas gravy”….made with chicken/turkey stock and cornflour with a dabble of cranberry sauce and some herby bits in it. It is quite rich but really adds to the flavour of the turkey, that I personally find so blimming bland, boring and 😖 (the yearly argument is always “Christmas Day - shall we have a turkey (him) or a chicken (me) and he always spouts out the “it’s a tradition” rule and every year a turkey crown is on the dining table 😰🙄) But the gravy is very popular with the customers as it’s that Chrissy “finishing touch” that’s a bit more than the usual chicken/turkey Bisto or gravy granules. Although I bought the pre made Chrissy gravy, I still bought a tub of the pigs in blankets flavour too…. To go on the bits of a traditional Boxing Day meal - eating the Christmas Day dinner left overs! 😄 I personally could not eat a dinner meal if there wasn’t any gravy to go with it - I do not like “dry” food - and there is such a deep joy in pouring a rich and runnyish beefy flavoured gravy into a Yorkshire pudding, leaving it for a couple of minutes to soak into the pud! Bigging it up for gravy! 🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
