You know after being there in person staring at it in editing for hours, until you said something…. I didn’t realize that 😂 but to be fair, black currants was banned in America since 1911 to 1966 and some up to 2017 because it had a bacteria that could kill off our pine trees, so that berry is pretty much non existent to us, an with all the excited, my fat self got it mixed up.

09:07 Please do us Brits who keep hearing Americans (many of whom have never, ever left the USA let alone been to the UK) describe our food as "Dull, bland, grey and tasteless" a favour. That myth dates back to World War II and immediately afterwards when your Great Grand-pappies were over here at a time during which we were very heavily rationed. When you get back please tell your compatriots just how good our food is. Especially the fact that it is not full of sugar and artificial ingredients that can impact health. 😉😃

Humble crumble is the child of us as children when we would have a rhubarb or apple crumble and the thing we all wanted was the crumble topping and custard more than the rhubarb or apple filling. The fact they do unlimited custard is great as you get the crumble and just mix it up and then as you work your way through it just go back for more custard to mix with the crumble we all loved as kids with our school dinners..

Hi Guys. The doughnut you thought was cherry is actually blackcurrant. I don't think you have blackcurrant in the US. They are a tart currant, in the same family as redcurrant. Where you have grape flavour, we have blackcurrant - & they're full of Vit C!!
@Trippingthroughadventures
@Trippingthroughadventures Месяц назад
So side note first, you guys have black currant flavored things, we have imitation grape flavored things that taste nothing like a grape lol. Also yes this was a re accruing thing, we was aware of black currants…sort of… it’s non existent in the states… there’s a Nordic yogurt that came out in 2017 that has a black currant flavor and out of 34 years of life. That the only time I’ve seen that flavor. So the idea it’s so ubiquitous in the UK is surreal I did not know my mind would register black cherry every time I seen one but it would. Way better than grape lol.

@@TrippingthroughadventuresMost US states have now lifted the 1911 ban on blackcurrant production, but since Americans haven't grown up knowing the flavour, it hasn't caught on yet. The ban was originally for a good reason (it spread white pine rust threatening the timber industry), but times have changed and there's no good reason for it now. Grape flavour must be entirely artificial as they really don't taste of much, certainly not like your "grape" sodas and candies.

And I’m mind blown as an American editing these videos how I just read black cherry when it says black current. Cuz black currant is non existent in America. @@Trippingthroughadventures sticky 'toffee' is such a misleading name! As a child I HATED toffees (the candy); from the flavour to the way it gets stuck to your teeth, I could not stand toffee - and I still can't to this day. As a result, I refused to try sticky toffee pudding for so many years of my life - I mean, the name embodies everything I hate about toffee! It was only when I reached my teenage years and started taking a more serious interest in cooking and learned how it was made that I realised that it was more like a dark caramel sauce. It is now one of my favourite desserts, particularly when served hot with a really good quality vanilla ice cream to cut through the sweetness! Heavenly!

If you say crumble to me I think of Sunday afternoon, a big dish bubbling away in the oven. Or maybe invited to dinner round someone's house and either the host has made one for afters or one of the guests made it at home and brought it round to cook. It's home cooking, a big dish cooked together for sharing out straight from the oven with custard or ice cream. Not individual portions cooked to order or chef-ily constructed out of separate fruit and crumble parts. Im amazed you thought our donuts were so good . I was in Quakertown PA a few years ago and just fell in love with the cinnamon donuts and coffee , Id be the size of a house if I lived there. Also , whilst we say 'fish and chips with salt and vinegar' , the vinegar goes on first so that the salt sticks to the chips, otherwise the vinegar can wash the salt off. Great vid guys , love it x

The market has been there 1k years, so wev had time to get things right. Cod or Haddock are best fish and chips. The not liking the food is a through back to WW2 when finally the Americans arrived we had had 2 years of rationing. So our food was extreamly limited like 2oz of butter a week, so get with it US our food is much healther than yours far less chemicals and amazing veriaty. I live in a tiny village with 2 pubs a Amazing Chinese resturant and a wonderful Chippy ( i lived in Hong Kong so i know great Chinese). We also have a Chicken shop and a Pizza place that deliver. I’m southern so “thank you” is heavily emphasized but please is more insinuated, so how you ask for something is more important than please, terms like “May I “ or “can” is a almost a way of Lessing yourself in the situation. Giving the person who serves you the power on an odd way. It almost sets up this situation that “ I know it’s your job, but you don’t have to for me “ type thing, I always say I’m southern so I apologize for existing lol. This means if someone runs into me 100% their fault, first words out of my mouth “ ohh I’m sorry” (if I didn’t exist this wouldn’t have happened) lol. I often find myself intrigued by videos where people from different countries try British cuisine. Being an expat in Japan via the UK, and given that I have long absences away from the UK, I think I can be more objective than most about the reality of the food quality from back home. It's curious how discussing British food in the UK often elicits disdain here, making me question if my appreciation for it is merely cultural indoctrination. Yet, upon returning and savoring classics like fish & chips, melted mature cheddar on toast, sticky toffee pudding, buttered crumpets, a pint of English cider, or a Sunday roast, I'm reminded of their undeniable deliciousness. It makes me wonder if some people approach trying British food with preconceived biases, influenced by cultural stereotypes. So, kudos to those who remain open-minded.
