In this video, my wife and I try a huge variety of savory British snacks -- including quite a few types of crisps. Join us as we do a taste test of some popular British snacks! From crisps to flavored peanuts, this was the largest selection of savory snacks we've tried yet.

She definitely has me beat. For some reason it's just one of those words that my accent makes it really hard to say. Reminds me of my grandma, she could never say the word pizza because the letter a would always sound like er. So it sounded like she was saying peesser. No matter how hard she tried she could never say it like everyone else.

@@reactingtomyroots To be fair we grow up hearing and saying the word way before we see how it's spelt - would probably be a very different story if we had to pronounce it without hearing it first!

@@reactingtomyrootsIt's one of those strange words that isn't pronounced how it's spelt. "Wor-chest-er-shire" is one variant some American's use, with the "wor" part being pronounced like the word "war" and the "shire" part being pronounced rhyming with "tire". It sounds odd to us Brits. I would say it "Wus-ster-shur" but there's different pronunciations even within the UK!

You ate the hula hoops wrong. You're supposed to put one on the end of each finger and then jam them into your face hole :)

I remember my cousin telling me his 15 year old step son in florida didn't like bananas as they didn't taste of banana😂 Americans are accustom to artificial flavours. It's in practically everything they eat.

The artificial banana flavour is actually more authentic. The artificial banana flavourings you get are accurately based on a variety of Banana that went extinct years ago due to some disease. Younger people will not remember the original superior bananas so they will notice a difference.

@@theotherside8258You're right. The flavourings of banana comes from a different variety from the 1950s that got lost due to a disease. This same disease has mutated and is now starting to attack the bananas we have now. Fun fact: Every banana you buy from the supermarket are all clones of a banana that was first grown in England since the 1830s. Called the Cavendish Banana it was the one that was most resistant to the disease but sadly the disease is starting to kill these off. Soon there will be no Cavendishes left to viably grow mass market to supermarkets around the world.

This is true, I've seen a few channels that say Brit cereal is bland and not sweet, specifically weetos and coco pops. Although sugar has been reduced in these I find they are still overly sweet. But since I've tried some US cereal, damn it's the most over the top sweetness. No wonder they would then say ours is bland.

Sophia needs to taste the hoops without any feedback from Mom and Dad because kids love them here. Also its mandatory to put them on your fingers to eat. It's the law 😂

Why why why do Americans have such extreme reactions to UK flavours?? I think most Brits would eat all these snacks. But no-one would spit it out? What's going on. I don't particularly like sour cream. But I wouldn't spit it out it's just a crisp.

I notice steve eats 3 or 4 times as much as lindsey does .and agree with him that the taste does take a few crisps to fully appreciate .Also lindsey nibbles her crisp often leaving half of each one and diesnt get the full taste bud experience

You’re right to try foods again because psychologists say do this with children who are fussy eaters. It can take several attempts for the taste buds to adjust.

Yeah it takes kids 16 times to know if they like something apparently. That’s why toddlers squish and play with food, and will react differently to the same food if mashed up or not. Like my niece wouldn’t eat blueberries, not she loves them but only eats them mushed up.

I don't know if you read the package details or not, but the majority of crisps in the UK are vegetarian friendly. There is no meat included mainly because of allergies and to appeal to the biggest audience customer wise. Also the flavour profile of crisps is affected over time and by the pack being in direct sunlight - the flavour wanes sadly.

Crisps in the UK have a rough ‘standard’ for package colour to flavour, for the common flavours anyway: Red - ready salted (yes, a pun) Blue - salt and vinegar (most brands), cheese and onion (walkers) Green - cheese/sour cream and onion (most brands), salt and vinegar (walkers) Bright pink - prawn cocktail Pale pink - ham Mid brown - smoky bacon Yellow - chicken Black - barbecue Purple - rib/steak There are probably others I can’t remember right now.

Curry flavour is a mix of like 13 spices some times less, but thats why you couldent get a handle on it, its moreish, and you will eventualy love curry, resitance is futile. Google curry powder, and see what its made off.

In the UK Scampi is the peeled tail of a large langoustine prawn, deep fried in breadcrumbs. Most of the British langoustine catch in the cold waters off Scotland, Ireland and Norway are exported to European countries. Where they are cooked whole and eaten like a small lobster.

Those specific smiths crisps aren’t generally what people buy in supermarkets - you’d usually find them behind a bar in a pub on a piece of card with 12-20 other packets of the same flavour. People buy them with their pints of beer. Regarding Hula Hoops - they sell BBQ Beef, Cheese and Onion and Salt and Vinegar flavours too. Also please try the Nice n Spicy Niknaks - they are amazing - like god tier crisps

Walkers used to do Worcestershire sauce crisp, they got very rare to find, usually only available in bulk from a retailer. But now they are completely discontinued. M&S did a big bag of their own version, which were nice , but again, I think they are now discontinued as of last year

Thing is with peanuts they’re known as pub snacks as they’re great while drinking beer. Saltiness and hotness makes you thirsty = drinking more beer to combat it , pub owners probably love them! 😂

The scampi and bacon fries are my personal favourites if i remember right they used to be sold quite alot as bar snacks in pubs and clubs, the Worcester sauce are close behind, we definitely have plenty of different flavours over here, the asda crisps are actually pretty good for a supermarket own brand at the moment they are only 89p for 6 bags

Hi guys, great to be watching your new video. Oh what I would do for some of those snacks right now. I’ve been stuck in a UK NHS hospital for 8 days now and possibly another 2-4 weeks yet, so the dire hospital food is killing me. The government budget for food in hospitals here (unless privately owned hospitals) is at an all time low. The menu is actually quite varied but the content and quality very poor. My daughter is visiting today and has promised to bring me some snacks and a nice mixed salad bowl from Marks and Spencer!! The varied amounts of crisps and snacks here is huge, so I’m sure you’ll be filming more British snack videos. Much love guys.💞🇬🇧

@@clarelawton4653 Thank you, because of where I’m living and the current health issues I have I sadly won’t be going home, but will be rehoused somewhere else in more suitable accommodation to my specific needs. My family have the rather daunting task of sorting my flat and boxing it up for removal.

Last year, I was in hospital twice. I was unable to eat the meals because my hands were bandaged after 5 operations (cat bite!). On the last day of my second stay, I discovered that there was a patient restaurant. I'd have had to pay for meals, but, apparently, they were good, and someone would have helped me to eat. For days, I lived off rubber sandwiches (they called them cheese) and egg mayo sandwiches, as well as tea and biscuits. I would have killed for something like these snacks, but I couldn't have eaten them due to the bandages. I was shocked by how the food had deteriorated since I stayed in hospital a few years ago. Hope you get well soon.

#18:15 The Asda supermarkets were wholly owned by Walmart, until recently ( last 1-2 years) when Walmart sold of its majority stake back to a British consortium, retaining something like a10% stake in them.

It looks like those curry ones are officially moreish!...I loved nik naks when i was a child, especially nice 'n' spicy ones! My 6 year old loves bacon "crisps" so bacon fries and frazzles!....the Asda ready salted are a super market own brand, all the others are available throughout the UK (apart from the Irish ones) Also, there could be something in what you said about tasting the oul in the bacon and scampi fries as they are sold more as bar snacks in pubs!

The best GB snacks are ( depending on your taste but always should be available) Scampi fries, peanuts dry roast and salted, pickled eggs, the cockke and prawn person ready to sell them to you, with his cute basket. My Sister liked crab sticks other seafoid etc behind the bar salt and vinegar chipsticks and salted. Mini cheddars. It makes everyone thirsty!!!

The Smiths Scampi and also the Smiths Bacon Fries are mainly pub snacks, so are slightly saltier to promote the thirst of those eating them. For at least spicy heat at home meals, we have a chilli indicator on the packaging to indicate whether the spicyness is mild (one chilli), medium (two chilli's) or hot (three chilli's)

Asda (Walmart) ready salted crisps 👍. Seabrook ready salted are nice too (if you liked the texture of the sample you were sent). My favourite flavour for crisps and Pringles is sour cream & onion or chive though. Hula Hoops HAVE to be eaten as @straightouttacornwall recommends! 😄🖐 Worcester is pronounced more like 'Wusster / Wussta'. Amazing the tricks our brains play on us with new tastes and textures, goes from 'urghh that's vile' to 'hmm not too bad actually ...' Used to have hedgehog flavoured crisps over here in the UK, Welsh invention iirc, but they sadly disappeared 20-30 years ago 🦔.

Not at all. We generally don't eat foods with many additives. Our palates are fine, just like everyone we have certain flavors we like and dislike.

The best Frazzle/bacon fries are definitely Tesco own brand, they have so much flavour on compared to all the others!

Have to say I will eat pretty much all of these, though I tend to avoid nuts now due to weak teeth. As a kid, I stuffed Hula Hoops (in particular the salt and vinegar ones) with fine grated mature Scottish cheddar cheese. So delicious. Funnily these days I often put spreadable cheese between two Pringles (either S&V or BBQ). The scampi and bacon fries are more associated with being in the pub with a nice pint.

Hula Hoops are picnic/ beach crisps. They can be a bit 'meh' when eaten outdoors but on a mountain or beach they are perfect.

we have "crisps" but we also do have "chips" here If its potato its generally a crisp (conversely, if its not potato its not a crisp), but if its corn its very often a chip (tortilla chips for instance, doritos are chips) And then anything else might be called "snacks", nik naks for instance being a "corn snack"

Seabrook crisps are made relatively near me in West Yorkshire. I love the 'Canadian Ham' flavour the most, if you've not had that flavour i might have to whip up another box to send Stateside, although the drinks i sent were mostly a disappointment 😆

Hula hoops you stick on your fingers! They do come in different flavours- worcester sauce crisps lovely- as for scampi fries cant beat them- think you just arent used to strong flavours like the average Brit; you need to try Kettle crisps in all the flavours; take care x 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿( my personal favourite are Wotsits- addicted!)

You don’t have to agree to like a particular crisp. Everybody has their own taste. For instance, I would always buy cheese and onion, crisps and salt crisps but never ever would I buy crisps flavoured with vinegar. But some of my family love it. I got the impression that Lindsey was a little bit put out because Steve didn’t think they were as strong a taste as Lindsay thought. Regards, MaryG

Perfect timing! Just got done putting my fortnightly Tesco delivery away! 😁 It cost just over £200 and that includes Delivery, ALL food, ALL drinks, ALL cleaning products AND enough tobacco for two weeks! Are you envious? (I don't mean for the tobacco! But a girl's gotta have one bad habit!) And because it's shopping delivery day, I have a pile of unnecessary crap to nibble through, whilst watching you do the same! 😂 We call them ALL crisps collectively, although if you want to be technical, then crisps are made with potato, and the maize and corn types are snacks. BUT, if we were shopping, then we'd say we need crisps generically. Lots of love to you all! 😘😘😘 xxxxx

I've given up buying multi packs from supermarkets as they are such a disappointment. They have less than 50 percent flavouring on them. Instead I opt for 'grab bags' from more local shops. Or the market if the cheap snack stall is about.

Hehe you certainly made me giggle watching this. Some of my favourites are Pipers Rosemary and Thyme, and their Jalapeno and Dill which are lovely combinations. They also do Chorizo flavour which I want to try. Kettle Steakhouse Barbecue is heaven. Their Sea Salt and Balsamic Vinegar are incredibly moreish. Tyrrells Smoked Paprika are good. I remember when Kettle used to do Christmas special editions...the last one was Blue Stilton(a very famous wonderful English cheese) and English sparkling wine, and they were amaZING! Seabrooks used to do various specific curry flavours which were great. Tesco Finest do a Beef and Horseradish which are hot and spicy. I didn't realise that the US didn't really have interesting crisp flavours. Have you tried Bombay Mix? Maybe someone will send you some!!

Bacon is relatively common for crips here and a generic version of frazzles called bacon rashers are sold by like every supermarket Also there are BBQ beef flavour hula hoop

It's 11:45 am as I watch this but I'm chomping away on a bag of crisps in solidarity. I bought a new flavour last night - Margherita Pizza Crisps from the Co-Op... "seasoned with the delicious pizza flavours of buffalo mozzarella cheese, tomato and basil." Anyone else tried them? I'd give them at 7.5 out of 10.

Aldi do their own version of Margarita flavoured crisps which I have tried. They aren’t bad, but I would rate them at 6.5,purely on the category of being a new flavour, they will probably disappear before too long, as they will be a seasonal variety.

8:55 Sounds like you might like the BBQ Beef flavour of Hula-Hoops. They get their texture because they're made from mashed potatoes, like Pringles.

@tinalongfellow7170 Most people would be influenced by the flavour name. I hate black pudding and if there were crisps /snacks of that flavour I wouldn't even bother - why would I when there are many other flavours and black pudding is something I detest? You're being a bit harsh here.

@@GamerBully fair enough but Steve does actually eat the items. Just because he thinks he might not like a particular flavour doesn't mean he doesn't give it a go. It is natural to be wary in such circumstances. I think so anyway.

There is nothing worse than picky eaters " I love fish" (then proceeds to say you don't like the vast majority of seafood/freshwater fish)...I hate cheese (without ever having a proper cheese sandwich or a cheese board with a fine port) I hate this, and that? I don't think i *hate* anything? Come on...I blame the parents. (for a lack of a varied diet)
