I love marmite, especially with cheese, had vegemite which to me tastes like a synthetic version. Marmite was made in 1902

You put double the amount needed on the toast, I’m not Ozzy or Brit and Vegemite and Marmite are not the same at all, Marmite is not palatable for me personally. Fun episode good job 👍

I am an Aussie and i love vegemite, but i am not offended by people who dont like it. You should know from your trip here that we dont take offence too easily at people. Vegemite used to be used a lot more for cooking , in previous generations. I was taught to make gravy with it, and to put it in soups. My dad used to make a drink with it, literally hotwater and vegemite. We used it as a rub on meat especially chicken. Ive used it instead of soy sauce on noodles and rice. when I heard buttery vegemite pasta, I went yum!

I think someone trolled you nicely with that vegimite pasta and chicken wings. 40yo and I have never heard of such things. Try slicing a tomato, cover lightly in vegimite and sprinkle in basil and fry. Also goes real well as a marinade with garlic and rosemary on a roast lamb

Yes, I eat Marmite being a Brit and it has to be butter on the toast first, then a little Marmite. Could not eat Marmite on toast without a lot of butter!

Same as Marmite, you need to have a good layer of butter, then you should trace it lightly on the bread/toast. It’s delicious!

I'm from the UK and have never tried Vegemite, but I like Marmite and have been told they are similar. Our family mix the Marmite and butter together to spread on toast or a sandwich (put some butter and a little Marmite onto a saucer and kind of smoosh them together). Makes it easier to get the right amount and easier to spread. We also use it as a kind of concentrated stock to stir into soups, stews etc. My friend always stirs some into her spaghetti bolognaise.

Vegemite is the spin-off of Mamite . Marmite is made here in Burton-on-Trent, England out of yeast bi- product from the brewing process for beer. Love Glen , patreon from England near Burton -on-trent.

OK the VEGEMITE 101. My family emigrated to Australia from Czechoslovakia. I grew up in Melbourne. When I was in primary school I envied the other kids who had chocolate spread on their sandwiches. One day I traded my home made sandwich with a kid expecting the sweet Nutella like spread and bit into the sandwich. It was VEGEMITE. I was distressed for days and possibly in need of therapy but the trauma passed without professional help. Years later I worked for an animation company in Sydney that produced a few VEGEMITE commercials and by that time I had grown accustomed to it. Now that I have lived in Asia for over 20 years I still like when I see a jar of VEGEMITE in selected food stores. Here's the secret. Just toast a few slices of good bread, spread some butter and then spread some VEGEMITE sparingly. Make sure it is just a light brown spread and no dark blobs of the stuff. VEGEMITE is strong. There used to be a joke where a contestant on a TV game-show won the consolation prize which was a years supply of VEGEMITE......One large jar! You get it now.

I studied in Australia many years ago and fell in love with Vegemite. Vegemite on toast with cheese is my favourite. I might try the Vegemite roll Alison made. We've marmite in Malaysia but, there are not the same.

You should try Promite before you head out of Australia. A sweeter milder version of the senses smashing Vegemite. Much easier to get started on.

I'm a Melbourne boy (22yo) and I grew up eating it. I hadn't heard of Vegemite pasta until I was around 12 or 13 and my older sister made it. I thought she was crazy at first but I've made it since and if you do it correctly it can be super tasty 😋 When I'm eating Vegemite, because I'm so used to it and have been eating it all my life, I put HEAPS on my bread or toast 😂 Sometimes I don't add butter but its much better with butter tbh. Definitely use the TINIEST amount if you are a foreigner or haven't tasted it before. It takes time getting used to but if you do it properly and eat it regularly you will eventually love it!

I'm a South West Victorian and I've had Vegemite bolognese a number of times but never seen this recipe. You mix the tomato sauce & Vegemite with the meat & it gives it a richer flavour.

I worked in a bakery for eight years and the trick is to actually thin the vegemite out with water in a mixer! Makes it more goopy and easy to spread :)

Egg, preferably with a runny yolk. Avocado, sliced or smashed. Cheese. Cold or melted on toast or in a jaffle/breville toasted sandwich. I was a weird kid and ate Vegemite, cheese, lettuce and tomato sandwiches at one point! I haven't made one in years though!

There's reduced salt Vegemite, also when I was younger I use to thinly spread it on the toast and then butter it after... Seemed to dilute the taste but after some time I love spreading it thick now, goes really well with mushrooms, put shrooms in a pot with a good bit of butter and a teaspoon of Vegemite

Wow you guys went all out! For many years I couldn't get past the smell of it to even attempt to put it in my mouth. Eventually my Aussie friends made me try a bit of their morning vegemite on toast & it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, salty yes but I love salty foods. It's still not a favourite of mine, but I can eat it without too much issue. My dad actually used vegemite as a marinade for bbq kangaroo & beef, it was really good!

Noodles, butter and vegemite ( not a typical dish, coming from an Aussie) Agree with a few of the other comments, you need more butter on your toast and a light spread of vegemite. It was nice to see you trying something so iconic to Australians. Vegemite is very much an acquired taste though, most of us have been eating it since we were very little (a vegemite sandwich was one of my first solid foods as a child) and it's almost a boasting right among Aussies of how much we can handle. Most people I know who live in Australian but who weren't born here or who's parents weren't born here don't really like it so for you to even think it is somewhat alright is better than expected. My favourite ways to eat it are on toast with lots of butter and just a tiny bit of it (like half what you put on your toast) or with cheese on top (and then I'd use how much you did for your toast, or maybe a bit more).

We stayed with friends in Tennessee and took a bottle of Marmite for them to taste. They had the same reaction YUCK! My friend kept the bottle as a keepsake and it will probably keep for years and years as it is very salty. You needed a lot more butter on the toast, then a really thin scraping of the Vegemite/Marmite. I love Marmite!

See, we start eating vegemite as kids, so we get hooked to the salty savoury flavour early on. Lots of butter, finest scrape of vegemite. Best cure for hangovers, best cure for morning sickness. I’m going to steal your recipe for Vegemite scrolls, I usually buy them from a bakery!

Here in the UK way back in the 50's and 60's a hot cup of Bovril after an hour in the local freezing swimming pool was something you relished! Bovril makes an awesome hot winter drink.

It is very similar to Marmite it has a slightly different flavour and is milder I feel. Australians usually prefer vegemite and British Marmite but I think it’s what you are used to. I would eat either, spread thinly on toast or with cheese in a sandwich. I really have to have a small amount though as it is very strong which ever you choose.

Oh, and you still need to do the Vegemite with avo on toast. You could also try some Cheesymite - which is Vegemite mixed with cream cheese - another personal fav (although not so popular with the locals).

We don’t have vegemite here (that I know of) but we eat marmite spaghetti on a weekly basis. I add Parmesan and LOADS of marmite. It’s possibly my favourite meal! Marmite roasties as well. I’d love to try vegemite.

I admire you for your bravery. You are experienced travellers, so you have learned the principal lesson of travelling - try everything you can. The best that can happen you have a marvellous experience and the worst possible outcome is you get a great story to tell. You guessed the error with the vegemite. In my experience most Americans do the same - put FAAAAAAAAR too much on. That 100g jar would last me a year or more.

I am middle aged and slowly adjusting to it. I can now eat the supermarket vegemite cheese scrolls. There is a brand called Aussie Mite which is milder in taste. The tiniest amount of vegemite the better to start. Vegemite Pasta, never heard of it. In Iran, I was told to try a food item, it tasted a lot like vegemite which surprised me. Once again try the bagel bite packet, if I can handle it, so should you guys. There is a penguin colony in Melbourne city, thanks guys

Melbourne has an amazing food culture. I’m sure you enjoyed it. Las Vegas is where my sisters live. Not my fav city but I love old architecture and nature so I mostly hang out around Las Vegas cuz the city is too much sensory stimulation for me. I’ve seen the city many times. I’m pretty much over it. But valley of fire I never get tired of. When I visit LV I just hang out with my sisters and eat out and go thrift store shopping. They have a chain called Savers that is pretty fantastic

Love Vegemite,but always put butter on the toast first,and then Vegemite.It is definitely a staple in many Australian households.

You have to try toast with Vegemite tomato cheese on the grill. Make sure the cheese is melted and the tomato is warm!! Its too good on a whole nother level!!! 😊😊 can also Add salt and pepper if you like

I didn’t like Vegemite at first, too. Then a couple from NZ suggested I try it with cheese and I really liked it that way. Unfortunately it is not readily available in Germany.

In South Africa, we have both Marmite and Bovril.... Exactly the same product. Both are delicious.

When I was a kid my favourite sandwich was made with a 1cm thick slab of strong English cheddar and about a tablespoon of Marmite per sandwich, all washed down with cold full cream milk. Yum. As to Vegemite, if I want something tasting of Marmite mixed with stale vegetable stock cubes I'll buy some. But I don't and I won't.

For Vegemite on toast you need to have cool toast, not such that the butter melts. Then add the Vegemite and mix in with the butter a bit. That's the way I have it. also spread Vegemite on toast and add a fried egg. I have never had the noodles or the chicken wings with Vegemite

Put simply, always use Vegemite sparingly! Even a small jar used regularly can last a long time. A great value flavour addition to sandwiches and savoury recipes.
