Part of the joy of Taskmaster is not just when they do really well, the epic fails are some of the funniest moments. Definitely worth watching a full episode to get a proper idea of how it works.
Absolutely - the show only makes sense if an entire episode (or even a series) is watched from start to finish. It is certainly far more enjoyable that way!
@@carriageofnoreturn.1881 yeah I'd say watch a full series too. You really get to know the contestants and what they're up to, you get more of the dynamic between Greg and Alex... just snippets is fine if you know what the show is about and how it works, but to get there you gotta watch it first
The snippets of Taskmaster are to lure people into watching full episodes. I recommend going from season 1 so you can see the evolution from participants following the task to the letter to absolute mayhem finding the loopholes
I laughed when you said Josh Widdicombe is Scottish. He grew up in Devon which is almost as far away from Scotland as you can get in the UK. His village was so small there were only four kids in his year at school.
I mean, there are Scottish people in Devon (my family, for example), but yeah he definitely isn't Scottish. I could almost understand the confusion if his accent reached the same level of incomprehensible as some Scottish accents do, but he's got a pretty understandable accent. He'd probably say 'Devon', not 'Dem'
Just start at episode 1 and work through them. They've never made a bad show, and it's a great introduction to some of the best comedians on the planet being taken completely out of their comfort zone. Equal amounts brilliance and sheer stupidity, and very very funny.
You said it perfectly with equall amounts of brilliance and stupidity but you should have added that some celebrities are absolutely thick as two short planks.
When you inevitably go down the rabbit hole of every episode of Taskmaster from series 1 onwards, don’t forget the Christmas specials/Champion of Champions. Katherine Ryan ‘making a mess’ is superb dedication to the show🤣
Taskmaster is probably the biggest 21st century innovation not only in British comedy, but in comedy in general. I don't think it's ever had a bad episode.
The original words to the first video is, One, two, three, four, five, once I caught a fish alive. Six, seven, eight, nine, ten, then I let it go again. Why did you let it go? Because it bit my finger so. Which finger did it bit? This little finger on my right.
That was a great highlight reel but the funniest part of taskmaster is comparing how other competitors did the same task… The different ways they made things disappear for instance was hilarious
@@kitsuneneko2567 You're talking about the satsuma fallout, aren't you? They edited a whole bit about a harpoon being thrown through the caravan, if I recall :-)
Most iconic moment is definitely Joe Wilkinson and the potato. There have been loads of good tasks, and I highly recommend watching the series if you can, but this task tops the lot. Second place would probably go to Josh's present to the taskmaster.
There was a US version, but the chemistry between Greg (The titular Taskmaster) and Alex (sidekick/creator of Taskmaster) is so integral. Also, you're spot on, the American competitors were just that, so competitive that it ruined the experience. Whereas the Brits can and do take the pi$$ out of themselves as well as others.
There is a Swedish version as well (and probably many others) called "Bäst i test". However, "Greg" is a big lady here, she's okay :) But it's our "Alex's" chemistry with the guests that makes it fun to watch. I actually like it a lot, despite being on state tv (much like BBC). Halv of the tests, as we call them, are more or less copied from the English original, half of them are made up. (The "Talk to a swede" task became "Talk to an Icelandic person", for instance.) A sixth season is coming up this spring.
@@herrbonk3635 There's also a New Zealand version. I think they have 2 or 3 seasons out already, very very funny also. They replicate the chemistry between the Taskmaster and sidekick very well there, and the contestants are also in it for the fun. I'd like to check out the Swedish version if there's a subtitled version out there somewhere :)
@@StefanScripca The NZ version is superb. I haven't watched the Swedish version but the Norwegian version (Kongen Befaler) is well worth watching if you can find it.
@@StefanScripca The NZ one also had the benefit of the Taskmaster's assistants brother as a contestant. That was a nice touch that the UK one couldn't replicate.
@@davidholden2658 I found Kongen befaler, here on RU-vid. Have seen one episode so far. Your studio or theater looks very similar to the brittish, but nicer house (things important to me :)
Cosign. Bob Mortimor's mind simply works in a different way. There are a couple of compilations of his stuff that would make excellent subjects for a reaction video.
That guy with the 4 comments is the one and only Bob Mortimore. A national treasure and all round funny guy. Definitely someone you should react to. His appearances on Would I lie to you would be a great place to start. (FYI; on a totally mercenary note, he has a massive following, myself included and your views will skyrocket!)
I'll second that. Would I Lie To You is pretty good generally both for just watching and for reacting to, and even more so when Bob Mortimer is one of the guests.
I would third that, any Would I Lie To You clips and this Bob especially. David Mitchell and Lee Mack have good banter as the show captains. ru-vid.com
I'm from Croatia and I accidentally stumbled upon Taskmaster on you tube. After a few clips like this I decided to watch the whole show. It's one of my favorite Tv shows ever! I absolutely love and adore this show! I recommend you to watch it whole, you'll not be sorry. 😊☺️
During the 1st wave of covid they did a thing on RU-vid, in which they invited members of the public to sent in video clips, which could be shot at home during the lockdown. It was a really big hit with people sending video's from all over the world.
For belated context, in taskmaster the same group of celebrities compete against each other for a season, with a a winner at the end of each episode and an overall winner being declared at the end of the season. The celebrities each complete tasks with no knowledge of how or what each other did until they review the footage together in the studio. Greg, the taskmaster, questions, ridicules, and judges their efforts and awards points. Alex is his minion, who is also there when the celebrities perform the tasks and sometimes ends up being used as a prop in them.
Also worth adding Alex Horne is the creator of Taskmaster despite Greg being his stage superior. Alex's comic timing (on here and his own comedy career) is second to none.
@@langdalepaul the dynamic between the two is incredible! Greg is too much of a huge presence (both comically and literally) to be subordinate to anyone on a tv show.
Bob Mortimer is regarded in the UK as a "national treasure"; especially known for his appearances in the show Would I Lie to You? I would recommend checking out his contribution to the show called "Does Bob Morty do his own dentistry?"
The first series was actually filmed in a theatre, the Clapham Grand. For series 2 & 3 they moved to fountain studios and replicated the theatre setting for the show. Series 4 they moved again to what has been the permanent home since at the world-famous Pinewood Studios. Which came in handy when they filmed before, during and after the first covid lockdown in the UK.
And other versions around the world too. I live in NZ and I LOVE Taskmaster. There have been 2 seasons here and while they're different, they're equally brilliant overall I feel. In particular the dynamic between taskmaster and minion is not the same - but frankly, trying to recreate the relationship between Greg and Alex would be a mistake IMO, no one would be able to match it and it would come across forced. Make it your own and run with it makes for the best TV :)
@@Zone1BC Heard lots of good things about Taskmaster NZ but have only watched the first episode myself. Seems so odd not having Greg and Alex there. Also seen short clips of the assorted versions across Europe...a strange sensation.
@@bromley001 Agreed, when you've got used to Greg and Alex (and love it so much) and don't recognise the participants, it can take a couple of episodes to get the feel of another country's version
Taskmaster is great. The tasks, the interplay between Greg, Alex and the contestants and the reactions when they are played back are just some of the things I like. The ultimate prize at the ends of the series is a gold bust of Greg. Each week's winner picks up the 'prize tasks'. Each week contestants are asked to bring in something based on a theme (something blue, something scary etc). This is the first task of the show and the winner for that week gets all the prize tasks that have been brought in. Great reaction. I like how you two always seem to know what the other one doesn't. Great team.
Rules of Taskmaster - 5 contestants (same ones for a full season) compete in strange and wonderful tasks set by the Taskmaster (Greg). Each task is adjudicated by Alex (who may be dragged in to help). Round 1 - contestants are asked to bring a themed "something" into the studio - these then form that weeks prize. Greg awards points based on originality, back story etc - 5 best, 1 worst. Then follows several filmed tasks. Each task is unknown to the contestant before opening the envelope. The filmed tasks are played back to the studio (first time that the Taskmaster (Greg) has seen the efforts). These are also scored by Greg - some are easy to score - e.g. quickest to do the task, who can send an object furthest in an allotted time etc. - others are more subjective and comedic input, uniqueness etc may add to how Greg scores them. The final round is a live challenge in the studio. Scores are collated for each show - the winner takes away the things collected in Round 1. Scores are also collected throughout the season to produce a season winner. There are many series of Taskmaster so a real goldmine of reactions available - ENJOY - Just got to the end and your question "Why don't we get comedians together in the US like this?" (paraphrased) - US Ego??? Most of the contestants on this show are comedians, comic actors/writers, comic presenters with the occasional DJ, TV presenter etc. (these can be the funniest as you are not expecting them to be as funny as the others).
It's been a huge success over here, little Alex Horne, the sidekick and score keeper is the actual taskmaster and founder of the show, it's his baby. Three of the comedians in that clip also have their own hilarious RU-vid channel called 'No More Jockeys', it's best friends Alex Horne, Mark Watson and Tim Key, it's a game they devised while touring together to kill time, it's absolutely brilliant!
One of the amazing things about Taskmaster is that it's almost entirely down to Alex Horne. It's his baby, and he put in a ton of work to make a go of it. I think Katherine Ryan's first nursery rhyme, the one about the peanut being crushed by the train, might be a Canadian/border regions kind of thing. A wonderful children's host, Fred Penner (think "Canadian Mr. Rogers" sorta thing. Canada's had a lot of really amazing kids' hosts, mostly through public television) sang it on his show (I think) and on one of his albums (definitely), and everybody knew it. The program was on CBC, though, so if you didn't get that, it seems you probably didn't see it.
You really need to watch the guy who said "do we strike her" , Bob Mortimer and Would I Lie To You. He has the most ridicoulus stories , where the panel is supposed to guess if he is telling the thruth or if he is lying. Your audience would love it!!
The thrill of others discovering Taskmaster for the very first time. I found the series in 2020 in the middle of the first lock down, when they made a Finnish version of it. The original series, that had over 10 seasons (or series) at that point, helped to keep my mood up during the ”dark ages”.
You've hit the motherload here. This is cult viewing, and there are so many episodes to trawl through. Each season/series has the same participants throughout, for about 10 weeks. Each episode has a winner, points are tallied up throughout the series to produce an overall winner. No tasks are ever repeated, each is unique. Points are awarded for each task, 5 to 1, sometimes no points, depending on the Tasmaster's mood. He has final say and awards points accordingly. What you've watched here is just the tip of the iceberg. I hope you enjoy it.
You definately have to watch a full episode. Part of the joy is seeing the different approaches, both good , and even better the absolute terrible ones. Like with the Gap one, you missed the others viciously dismembering the poor camel lol. Or with the Nursery rhyme, you missed John Richardson's most disturbing rendition of 3 blind mice lol
You'll Love Taskmaster, The banter is half the fun and watching celebs try to come up with solutions to odd tasks, you'll get epic fails and epic wins. Brilliant show
You need to watch an entire episode to understand the format. and from there you will naturally watch an entire series because that stuff is addictive.
The 'prize' at the current 10 episodes is a life-sized replica of the Taskmaster's (Greg Davies) head. There have been 2 new year specials since it switched channels here in the UK, where they have 5 non-comedians take part and the 'prize' is the Taskmaster's eyebrows on a stick. (Show first started on a comedy channel called 'DAVE' in 2015 before leaving to go to Channel 4 in 2019, starting in 2020)
Don't forget the champion of champions where the prize was a body for the head to fit into, but the one who won was the only one not to get the head. It was series one so he won a karate trophy.
@@AndrewHalliwell That was Josh Widdecombe. the head came in series 2. so that's why in the C of C show the karate trophy was there instead of the head. Josh is famous for being on The Last leg.
There is always a prize task in every episode. Each contestant brings something in to fit the category (similar to the rest of the tasks), and they score points based on how good their item is. But then, at the end of the episode, the winner gets to take home all of the prizes the other contestants brought in. So the prize task is a risk vs reward thing... bring something that will help you win the task, but don't bring something too ridiculous that it will cost you a lot if you don't win. But sometimes the contestants going overboard on the prize task is the biggest source of entertainment. The biggest one in my mind was bring in the most important document, and 2 contestants brought in Guinness world records and one brought in their wedding certificate. Although as far as I can see, the more costly and/or sentimental prizes are generally returned through common courtesy, although there's no guarantee of that and the show certainly doesn't act like they'll get them straight back again. Also, the overall season winner gets a trophy of the taskmaster's head (TBH I'm not 100% on this info because I mostly just watch RU-vid clips rather than the actual show but I think I'm right)
iirc they actually sign a waiver to say that the prizes they're giving up are genuinely being given up, though as a friendly courtesy thing anything really important will generally be given back
The guy asking the weird questions in the last task is Bob Mortimer. You definitely need to watch the compilation of him on “Would I Lie To You?”. Just a genuinely funny and bizarre person.
as well as the uk taskmaster being so amazing, i also found the new zealand taskmaster being equally chaotic ( especially season two, which holds a special place in my heart )
Can definitely recommend all the Taskmaster series, they should be viewable from the US on the Taskmaster youtube channel. Also, season 2 of Taskmaster New Zealand is an absolute riot, ranks up there with the best of TM UK.
The prize is a Golden bust of Greg Davies’ head! Also the one rule is “everything is written on the task” so some tasks are open to creative interpretation and there are some pretty incredible loopholes discovered. Also people have failed a task for the slightest infraction!
For your own joy and delight you should watch a series right through. Everything will make much sense than this compilation does... ..and "One, two, three, four, five, once I caught a fish alive..." is a bona-fide nursery rhyme
This! People keep saying watch a full episode... The show has an entire series story arc guys. Watch an entire series, start to finish. The "Neil Talks" channel has done it, the "Stanz" channel has done it. Genius move by Alex Horne, he insisted they keep the same comedians for an entire series when the execs were pushing for different comedians each week.
The guy who asked "do we strike her" is Bob Mortimer, you should definitely check out some Would I Lie to You with him on it, he's a great story teller :D
Also i'd recommend any clips you can find of a show called Shooting Stars which where hosted by Bob with his comedy partner Vic Reeves very surreal humour
The Taskmaster house where all the tasks are filmed bar the last task of every episode is in Duke's meadow Chiswick in West London. It's an old Groundskeepers cottage that is next to a golf course they occasionally use for tasks.
Hi, all love the show That guy that said "should we strike you " is Bob Mortimore. He is an amazing comedian and writer. His stories on the panel show Would I Lie to You are amazing. This is a show where the guests tell stories of their past and you have to figure out if they are lying or not. Quite a few reaction channels have covered him. So copyright issues should be workable. Love the fact that you guys don't pause too often and you are such a fab team.
I'm amazed that clip didn't show Sally, Aisling, and Bob's song at the end too... Whilst Nish and Mark wrote a genuinely good song... the other three's effort was pure comedy gold.
Bob Mortimer, a very special percular guy, grew up one town over from me. Naturally hysterical grew up rough and fairly free. He goes on may panel shows his "would I lie to you appearances tell alot about him and his life"
You should watch full series either on or off video. You get to know the contestants over the course of it and end up falling in love with people you'd never heard of before.
I would recommend watching full episodes. Part of the fun is getting to know them as they progress and the different ways they go about solving whats put to them.
such a good show. definitely worth binging the full seasons available on youtube. i like it because they genuinely all have fun with each other, its not all "act polite and mature for the camera"
Great series, definitely worth checking out for yourselves whether or not you actually put it up here. For the tasks, what matters is what's written on the card so there can be some very creative interpretations.
Task Master aka. Greg Davis is great. You should react to his story on the Graham Norton Show - "Ryan Gosling Can’t Cope With Greg Davies’ Ridiculous Story" .. hilarious!
... or try "My nan your nan Greg Davies’ best jokes from the Royal Variety Performance 2018" at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zeOlHPgaVhQ.html
Would I Lie to You Mortimerian tales is probably something I would have to recommend if you like the guy who likes to strike people on his first meeting 😂
I hope you have since watched some of the full episodes/seasons on RU-vid. It's utterly glorious. It helps to realise that a lot of the performers have considerable history together. In season 1, Roisin and Tim are close friends of hosts Greg and Alex respectively, and the mood of the show can be friendly, silly and often flirtatious. Season 4 with Mel from Bake Off may be the best, certainly wholesome the whole way through. I hope you enjoy!
I think the reason we get a lot of these shows in the UK is because the comedy industry is quite small. A lot of comedians but quite a small network behind them, as I understand it. A lot of these comedians work through the same agencies which makes it very easy to get a bunch lined up for panel shows. These shows are also the main way comedians get known in the UK so there's a lot of incentive to do them. Most of the UK's most successful comedians of the past two decades made their name through standout appearances on panel shows. These shows really help boost their notoriety and ticket sales.
Bob Mortimer was the guy that said "Do we strike her" He is a guest on quite a few shows, You should check out his best bits on (Would i lie to you) another great tv show
Oh one tip comedy panel shows/game shows, no prize or a pathetic prize. Comedians are competitive as hell and will compete just to win. Results are hysterical.
TBF, taskmaster is a bit of a slow grow. Really helps if you already like (Or at least know,) one or more of each series contestants. Edit - Yes it was Katherine Parkinson from IT Crowd, well spotted.
having watched all of Taskmaster multiple times and knowing very well how badly both Niesh and Mark did throughout their season, watching them perform that song will never not bring a happy tear to my eye because that is one of the best ever things to happen on Taskmaster. and the "do we strike her" guy is Bob Mortimer, one half of a comedy duo with Vic Reeves. Definitly watch all of Taskmaster! all the episodes are on their official youtube for non-uk residents my favorite tv-game show ever
The 4 contestants were given the same task. They watch back all of their attempts and react to it then the taskmaster and assistant discuss it and pick a winner of that task. At the start of each episode the contestants put up one of their personal items to fit a theme they were set and the winner of the full episode wins all of the personal items in the prize pool. For example one time the theme for the prize was important documents and one of them put up their marriage certificate. The overall winner of an entire series gets a trophy
Any day a fellow American discovers Task Master is a good day! You should watch entire episodes. I suggest you also check out "The Big Fat Quiz of Everything", "8 Out of Ten Cats", and "Would I Lie to You?"
This is the first video I've watched in your channel and as a huge Taskmaster fan, I hope you can start reacting to full episodes starting in Series 1. I'm confident that you'll enjoy the show and will be addicted to it as well.
The Nish and Mark series was hands down my fave! ive just been reminded from watching this as so many awesome brit comedians have been on the show its hard to remember who was on what series!
Fantastic reaction i love this show. I regularly re-watch this show especially the first 3 series. I look forward to seeing you guys react to more of it.
Great reaction and I really recommend giving at least one whole series a try. I can almost guarantee that you will be hooked after just one or two episodes.
Of all the British comedy snippets you react to on this channel, Taskmater UK is the one where you should absolutely watch the full episodes. It's the most brilliant and funny concept I've seen on the small screen of these last +10 years and Greg Davies and Alex Horne keep the insanity flowing. Standout contestants are James Acaster, Mel Giedroyc, Rhod Gilbert, Sally Phillips, Jon Wilkinson, Johnny Vegas and yes, Katherine Parkinson from the IT-Crowd, who is wonderfully incompetent at solving the tasks given. :).
Bob Mortimer was the guy who said "should we strike you". He does a great show with Vic Reeves. He has also done some fairly recent shows with Paul Whitehouse called "Gone Fishing". A mix of comedy and real life problems...worth a watch.
Omg you guys are going to be hooked! It's so good. :) You must watch full episodes. A lot is available on the Taskmaster RU-vid :) React to them if possible - many would love to watch you react I am sure.
Although these clips were good I am surprised they didn't include poor Joe Wilkinson's Potatogate debacle. It is simultaneously hilarious and heartbreaking...🤣😭
I live in the UK, I’ve heard of the Taskmaster but never seen it, think I’ll have to start watching this, it’s really good! ☺️ Greg Davies ‘the taskmaster’ is also very funny to watch too
He who said "Should we strike her?" Is Bob Mortimer. You should check him out on Would I Lie to You (Theft and Shrubbery is my favourite), Shooting Stars and The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer.
The guy who "asked the bad questions" is comedy legend Bob Mortimer. He first came to the attention of the public over 30 years ago on _Vic Reeves' Big Night Out_ and went on with Vic Reeves to host _The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer_ and anarchic celebrity quiz show _Shooting Stars._ He recently had heart surgery after nearly dying and hosts a show in which he and fellow veteran comedian Paul Whitehouse go fishing up and down the UK called... err... _Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing._
