I bought two one ounce bars from you and they're going to be here tomorrow. I will buy as much silver as i can from you as we go along. The only gold i think i can get is one coin. My mother had a $5 gold coin. It had an eagle on one side and an indian on the other and my sisters son stole it from her. I don't know what the coin was worth it was from the early 1900's but i don't remember the date. I thought i might try to get her a gold coin just of any kind that i might save up a bit and afford. It might not be old and it might not even be an ounce but at least she'll have a gold coin to replace the missing one.

Years and years ago I bought a one ounce Gold proof Buffalo for $800.00. Of course the spot price of that same coin which I still own is around $2,750.00. Gold did not go up. The value of the dollar went down that much. Think about that for a second.

I remember when I was very young, my Grandmothers brothers (my great uncles-WW1 Vets) would talk about never having bank accounts, and one finally did have just one bank account. They told us youngsters (my siblings and me) Never, Never Ever Trust the Bankers. These guys lived thru the Great Depression.
When I was young, I was a teller in a bank, and I'd see older people come in, cash their social security and retirement checks, then leave with cash. I was afraid they'd get jumped in the parking lot. I didn't understand why they did that. I thought their money would be safer in the bank AND earn them a little interest. Now, I do understand why they did that. They had lived their reason for doing that and knew from experience not to trust banks. There's no teacher quite like experience.
There was a small car junk yard business that was sold. The two partners got in an argument and one killed the other. The place sat there for years. When the second guy died in prison they were cleaning up the place. There was over 1 million in cash stashed in the mattress and other places around the house. He didn't trust the banks either.
Sorry to hear about Tim and this gentleman's loss of a child. We joined your "club" when our 19 year old son accidentally died as a passenger in a single car crash in 1992. He wanted to be a youth pastor. Without Jesus we wouldn't have made it through the grief process. We still miss him, but we're looking to heaven when we will see him again. Thank you Jesus.

Im an old lady and my parents taught me much. About when gold was confiscated, victory gardens on any empty land, my father was the only one of his 4 brothers with a job, and even 1950,, my mother canned fruits and vegetables for our pantry. This was in The Bronx NY - not the country.
My grandparents were farmers, but I never heard them talk about the depression. From things I've read, apparently the farmers didn't really feel it the way city folks did. I'm not sure if that's why I never heard any stories, or if they just didn't want to talk about that stuff around us kids. My grandma canned the food from their garden all the way up to her passing in 1997. I miss them both very much. There are a lot of things that I wish that I had learned from them (like her pickled beets), but I was just too dumb back then to understand how valuable their skills were.
When I was a little boy my grandfather gave me a a handful of silver half dollars and told me this is real money. I still have those coins and I understand much more now just how right he was. Thanks, Yankee!

My family members were alive then and spoke of the confiscation of gold by the government 1933. Law abiding citizens felt they had no choice because the penalties were prison and harsh fines. My father did manage to squirrel away one Indian head gold coin. My concern is that nothing prevents the government from making gold ownership illegal again. During the gold confiscating period, there was a big difference between then and now. People were proud and liked the Government. These days people know they are crooks and there would be a lot more gold going down with the boat.

All you had to do was mount it and call it "jewelry". That is why many fractional coins have evidence of being in a mount. In addition. every PERSON could keep up to about 5 ounces of gold. For a family of five that was 25 ounces. I hear this myth repeated almost as much as the other myth: The $20 gold piece and the suit/dinner, or whatever. My dad told me that back in the early 50's he could go to the movies and have popcorn and a soda, have dinner at the A&W hamburger/fries/soda, and put 5 gallons of gas in his car and do all that on a Saturday night for $1 🧐

Tim I'm surprised to hear you say there was not enough gold in the world to back our currency. It's just a matter of price ,of course when you inflate the money supply the price of gold needs to go up. Decoupling real money from bills of credit is what is destroying this country. It's also responsible for the huge wealth disparity. Hopefully a lot of that goes away when the system crashes.

In 2021, 1/10 oz gold sovereigns - I paid 20% premiums. Last 3 months, Perth & Royal Canadian Mints, with awesome diversity: 6-7.5% if one shops wisely. This is the reason that I prefer to buy actual coins rather than rounds or bars of gold. During 33 the coins that were allowed to be kept was anything with numismatic value. From that perspective getting your high value coins put in a holder by a TPG company will make it easier to claim you are keeping this gold for numismatic reasons. Hence the coins I buy are either low premium pre 1933 stuff OR low premium moderns from some of the more obscure countries .... many of those have mintages that are BELOW 1000, and THAT makes it even more difficult for the government to argue that they are bullion but most of the time they trade very close to bullion around 10% over. If it looks like confiscation is imminent ALL those coins will be suddenly commanding a huge numismatic premioum anyway hence they are the ones to own.
The main reason to avoid bars is to remain BELOW the customer identification threshold and the reporting threshold. The smaller the audit trail, the easier it is to avoid confiscation. The problem that this creates though (having no audit trail) is that selling requires an audit trail to prove its legitimate in the eyes of AML/KYC. Confiscation will always start based on records that the regime can get their hands on.
The very politicians that create this problem somehow manage to stay in power for decades and grow wealthier by the day while the people they are intended to serve become impoverished by the devaluation of the currency.

The Grandmother hiding gold coins reminded me of a couple of news stories from years ago. A scraper went to a farm auction and bought the scrap pile. In that pile was a pipe capped on both ends that was full of pre'33 gold coins. The other guy also went to a farm auction. Bid on a burlap bag that said tire chains. Took it home only to find out he bought a bag of Morgan dollars.

You make some very good points about why another confiscation is unlikely Yankee. However, there is something bothering me. We (The United States) have got ourselves in a ringer. While MANY other countries are building up their reserves of precious metals and not exactly being forthright about it, we can’t add to ours without driving up the price and and speeding up dollar devaluation. As much of what we hold in our vaults actually belongs to other nations that are our friends and Allies and is here for safe keeping, and meanwhile, those countries that are adversaries, continue to build their stockpiles to levels that may exceed our own in proportion to the size of their economies. If this happens, it may get our government’s competitive nature aroused, and at that point they may take whatever measures they deem necessary to gather all our shiny stuff into their control, and as I believe I heard Tim say, “they wouldn’t need to look for it because they already know where it is. I agree that it looks unlikely now, but if certain events were to unfold, depending on who is in residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, I believe we could see that ugly part of history repeat itself. I’ve considered this before. And agin, the government can do ANYTHING. However, when I run the numbers, it just doesn’t add up. The amount of metals citizens possess wouldn’t amount to a drop in the ocean compared to the debt we owe. There’s far more metals at the US Mint than there is anywhere else! They could go after retail companies and vaults, but anything else would be futile. THE REAL DANGER is a confiscation of all citizens digital assets!
