Born in the 1920s, Amida was a star of the Baselworld 1976 with its digital model, when the watchmaking community was standing at the doorsteps of the quartz crisis. Bold supernatural design, a non-conventional way of showing time with the LED-style display and mechanical movement inside. It was both appealing and innovative.
On April 23, 2024, Amida came back with its retro-futuristic style and more refined finishes thanks to watch designer Matthieu Allègre and founder of Depancel Clément Meynier, who joined forces to make this happen.
This time, the automatic movement is equipped with a jumping hour module, a sapphire prism for the side display, and a clear ‘digital’ readout. This first collector's series, the “Take-off Edition", will be available for a very limited pre-order period from May 28th, 2024. So watch this video to learn more about how to get it.

Will Amida be launching a 100th year anniversary LE model next year to commemorate the founding of the brand? Hopefully, it’ll be a great design that will propel Amida further post lift-off 🚀

I feel conflicted, on the one hand I am happy to see this watch finally receiving such a good execution, having wanted an original for many years but always deciding against it because of the 1 jewel movement and chromed case. On the other, the 2,900 chf price point is hard to justify even with the greater quality, especially when you consider it's a soprod with a jump hour module and a prism. (re)launching a brand is no easy task, the sales volume, price and broader finances of the company have to be weighed against each other to avoid having the venture go under.

I do think the price is justified…. Here are my three reasons (1) The Soprod movement is the new Newton model, which is a nice upgrade from an ETA clone. (2) The jumping hour module is in house developed, no small feat. (3) The design update to the watch was done by an up and coming watch designer, Matthieu Allègre, who has worked with Simon Brette and other big time watch makers. For these reasons, I think there is tremendous value in how this watch is priced. Also, I saw this in real life at Wind Up San Francisco, and it is high quality confirmed. Needless to say, I will be ordering one!

@@Koopology I also saw it Windup yesterday and I can attest to the high quality. The price may very well be justified, but it does compete with quite a few other beautiful pieces I've seen in that price range. I think the more fair question is whether it is of greater value than the comparable watches when competing for the same dollar. Unlimited funds? No question, buy it for the revival and high quality uniqueness.

@@ptchan5 When it comes to Jump Hours, maybe Reservoir would be in the same realm? I do love the Fears jump hour, but those have only been limited editions…. Now if you open it up to all watches in that price range, that’s a tough call. The Amida is super niche and really for the watch collector who already has a wide collection. Although, I would give mad respect to a watch enthusiast who bought this and wore it everyday!

Instead of truly as you say 'persevering' and working the long-game to building a new brand, this is another team looking for instant legitimacy by resurrecting a vintage (albeit "marginal") brand and using their history/story to give them some more hipster credibility - I wonder if they actually purchased the Amida brand rights or they discovered it was simply dead and was theirs for the taking? Not really sure but in the end, do we really need another version of this "driver" style watch? I mean there are already similar affordable ones from Bulova, Hamilton and others in the marketplace as well as the unattainable Urwerk version......This whole "Re-launch" leaves me a bit cold

Hello Craig, Allow me to answer you, get this brand trademarks was not the esayest part XD it took us lot of time, energy and quite a lot of investement ... we wouldn't have done it without being really passionate. Although forgotten, expecting some collectors, resurrecting this brand does give us legitimacy in the design of this digitrend model ( wich is mecanical), and we felt it was the right thing to do. Of course, this is just the beginning, and we're counting on our long-term creativity to keep us going. Best regards Matthieu Allègre

Good lucktothem but I thought it was a silly watch even then, and 50 odd years later it's still silly. Not an improvement to the normal display so redundant in design terms, a novelty & only that. I must say it wasn't easy toread even on screen, and the case is, lumpy looking in profile, great beauty is a justification unto itself but this does not enjoy that privilige.
