In this series, I convert my A1200 Amiga desktop. I replace all of the components and add a few extras to a Lian Li brushed Aluminium case.
In part one, we go over the components, and what the aim is.
*Apologies for the poor audio! This was recorded before purchasing a better audio setup.*

I did this to an A1200 in 1997 at uni, borrowed the uni's drills so I could drill through the back of the case, those things were made of really tough steel and there was no replaceable rear panel like we have now. Also, the mapping of the PC keyboard to AmigaOS wasn't great but it kind of worked. If I were doing it now, I'd be offsetting the motherboard away from the case and using cables to go from the rear of the board to a custom I/O fascia, that way, you also hide the power connector port on the board from the outside world, the PSU would just connect internally. I would find a way to mount it to that tray that comes out of the case.

I know it's yours to do with what you want, but to be frank: This strikes me like taking the engine out of a 1983 Delorean and putting it in a generic 2020 Toyota Corolla. Swapping the Amiga's case would have been something I could get behind in 1993... but now they are collectors items from my youth. At this late date, you can run a full A1200 (or better) in emulation on *any* basic tower PC for less money than you would have gotten from auctioning the complete and working A1200. I don't at all understand the motivation and hope you at least sold the remaining Amiga bits to people that can use them for restorations.

Hi. I had a spare motherboard from an incomplete a1200 so hence why i have done this. I still have a fully working orginal 1200 from when I brought it around 1995 time.
