Make your Amiga Workbench experience fast and efficient by installing these extra tools. They save so much time! Links: aminet.net/pac... aminet.net/pac... aminet.net/pac...
Magic Menu was one of the Amiga's most notoriously crashy apps, but I'm astonished to see it was not only updated but actually open-sourced too! I'd forgotten all about ToolsDaemon until now. Yep, great combo.
I was running this among other efficient applications on my Amiga back in the 90's. I worked extensively with three other system Macintosh, PC and Archimedes (it was education in the UK) I would take my personal A1200 to work and would have people over my shoulder be questioning me as to how I was doing what I was doing all on one system while making it look so easy. Back then I would just show them how I did it which would basically be beyond them, but now I wouldn't waste their or my time by saying I'm using a far superior system.
8:59 you can just drag and drop the Hip icon to the right hand command pane. Another tip is to add a keyboard shortcut for applications, you can type F5 up in the Hot Key text box for instance. Then HippoPlayer would start any time you press F5 in workbench.
Thank you so much for your great tips im just getting back in to the amiga scene from 30 years ago LOL 👍 Got it working on my A600 Pistorm all really good programs these 3 programs should be in with workbench 3.2 many thanks for your tips Mikey👍👍
Just a quick note to say I had to patch ToolsDaemon to version 2.2 (patch available on Aminet) to get it to work on OS3.2.1 - it worked for a while but then started to freeze as I added more programs... the patch sorted it out.
I was able to drag files from the windows desktop directly to WB desktop actually using WinUAE, i did not know that this was possible. I took the the lha file and dragged it from windows to the WB desktop :)
Thanks for this great video. I'm a little bit confused though, what was MagicMenu for? All you did was add to your startup-sequence without us seeing what it did or was for? From what I saw, you only demo'd Tools Daemon and I know that can run without MagicMenu. What is the combination for? Thanks again for taking the time to create this as it is useful.
As well as allowing you to right-click to get the system menu wherever your mouse was, it also updated the menu from the 1.3 look (black on white) to the newer 2.0/3.0 look. Made it look less jarring and ugly 🙂
Great Video. For some reason I had to use MagicMenu_II on an A500 running a ACA500 to get it too work. (Okay I see someone mentioned doing and than updating). It also picked up the Program in WBStartup. Fantastic programs MagicMenu and ToolsDaemon. I like using "TinyLauncher" for games and its an .exe file. Is there anyway I can get that to work with MagicMenu and ToolsDaemon. I did include it in the Startup Sequence, but the issue is if you want to change the ScreenMode in preferences it does not let you after launching it. So I took it out. You need to reboot and ScreenMode works again. Tks John
I use a conjunction of rekeyit and toolsdaemon just for the hotkeys. Instead of assigning to the name of the program I rather assign them into a cluster near each other so it's really quick to operate.
After following the instructions I get C:MagicMenu Program failed (error #80000004) Wait for disk activity to finish" with the option to either click suspend or reboot. Any idea on what I did wrong? This in on an Amiga 600. I tried to undo this by attempting to delete the magic menu command in the startup sequence and I can't save the change. "writing file failed: object is in use" I guess I'll have to start from scratch and re-install Amiga OS 3.2
When I began writing software for the Amiga back in the day (it's still available on aminet, Fred Fish, etc.) I used Aztek C. There came a time when I switched to Lattice C but in the middle Amiga went under and I left the Amiga platform because I was too busy to deal with an abandoned platform, no matter how much I loved it. And I loved it.
the proplem with the wbstartup and magicmenu is that info file is missing with the new version. an files wohtout info files are not found by workbench. you have to copy the ifo files from the old verison over to the same loation like pref and startup then the autostart is working again.
Do you have any advice how to make new MUI 5/Poseidon stop asking for Stack 32000? I installed Stack Attack and it helped with some but not with with Poseidon. I'm on 3.2.1.
I have this problem with toolsdaemon (OS3.2) that it (and all other menu's) only work when I first select en deselect the background of WB (1st menu). Then and only then the menu's start working again. It's so strange....
There is a bug which you may be experiencing slightly differently to how I experience it (mine locks up) and it's ToolsDaemon. Try downloading and patching it for OS3.9 as that fixed it for me. I'm using 3.2 as well and now it runs as it did when I used it on 3.0.
@@MikeyGRetro nice, I like old ways better. I even use floppies to run my games, just get feel of old times 😊. However my A1200 is basically new. Re-amiga, TF1260, Mediator, Radeon, usb etc
