Nice Thing! I managed to land on the enemy carrier, got refueld and rearmed to strike against new bogeys. I had to stay away from the enemy carrier to get the next bogeys deployed to me. After I understood the mission, it was easy to circle them out and I shot everyone with cannons, just for fun. Don´t ask how many hours I spent with this game alone. Definetly one of my favourite games on my A500 with RAM expansion to 1MB!!! Now my wristwatch has more memory.
Oooooooooh, so now you tell me! Almost 30 years later, and the damn sub wasn’t even important! Just shoot the enemy planes down and go home. I spent so much time on this!!!
+1 !!! Darn, I wasted hundreds of hours trying to complete this last mission! And the sub didn't play a part in the solution. It's SO LAME! Thanks for posting this, pal. At least now I know what had to be done.
Goddamnit. So many years wondering what to do on this mission, I can't believe you actually solved it. Congratulation. Nice fight by the way, i didn't know you could actually successfully take out a plane using your front gun. lol
Mate, you just made my entire year. I spent half my childhood unloading every ounce of ammo into that sub, and all this time I was wasting my time. Now I HAVE to go grab myself and Amiga emulator, plus that game, and finish business off after 15 years. I think I'll stop by Wikipedia first and make you famous...
I had a C= 64 growing up, my friend had an Amiga BBS I used to dial into. Had no idea what I was missing after watching a few Amiga games like this. So far ahead of its time!
Nice, my all time favorite game, took me ages to work out to avoid the sub or the cruise missile launched, after I got that I beat it most times I played, and to finally see someone else got it and a video of it being completed is fantastic, then all missions repeat with small changes in positioning was cool
If I remember correctly, landing on the sub also rearmed and refuled your plane. About the instructor: You can also kill him by positioning your plane ahead and in front of him and dispensing flares or chaff a few times. And, of course, you can solve all missions without a single missile. Boy, I had too much time back then.
I remember you could also fly an f-16 which would take off from an airbase off the coast. I used to try and land it on the carrier and barely succeeded a few times. I also liked to aim my jet at the carrier and switch to observation tower view and see the plane coming straight for the carrier. I remember thinking to myself that this looks nothing like the San Francisco I see on the TV lol
This was my favourite flight simulator. I used to climb to the max altitude, engines off, and then glide and land on the carrier. I bet in real world nobody does that 🤣😂
Did you know you could "fly" backwards in this game? I also had tons of time back them. You can climb a little, and set the engines in retro-thrust. The plane will keep yelling stall at you, but you will begin to raise backwars till 40000ft top limit.
I, like most commentors here, had NO idea you only had to shoot down the migs. I attacked the carrier to no avail. I guess the hint is in the lack of air to ground missiles in the game lol. 30 years too late to the party lol. I look forward to playing through again, but MAN I feel stupid lol.
I landed on the sub once ! Yah ! I think I even went back to my own carrier a few times to re-arm to try and destroy the sub ! I loved this game. I managed to do all sorts. I managed to kill the instructor guy who shows you how to do barrel rolls by hitting into his plane, and I successfully managed to land upside down on the aircraft carrier without dying ! The only way to get out was to eject ! Such fun !
i never finished this fucking mission when i was a kid, all because the mission briefing is fucking wrong! I miss that old Amiga, games were so much simpler then =(
Yes. I use WinUAE. Although I probably shouldn't say this, the Interceptor ROM has the same password protection as the original (remember that disc thing you span round to reveal the code to play the game?). So, you need to download a version that has that part *ahem* removed. A google search will yield plenty of results for that...
Hi I was wondering, if I can use parts of your video to do a side by side comparison with DCS. Just for fun. The name of my video could be.. "THIS IS WHY I CAN'T CONPLAINT ABOUT DCS TODAY, THIS IS WHAT I USED TO FLY" and of course please and thank you!
@@ChrisKlein1980 awesome! I will have to practice all your moves first to match your video, and specially that split S carrier landing, I definitely wanna try to do that one in DCS. Thanks man! I'll let you know when is done. Cheers!
Superb! But I don't understand it... I shot all those buggers down and never got the message I had completed!? God dam. I am going to fire up the Amiga!
Can you get this game on an amiga emulator? it's one of my favorite childhood memories! One of the reasons that made me become the Ace fighter pilot i am today!
Okay, providing it doesn't get removed, here's the recognition you deserve... :-) RU-vid won't let me post a link, but search for F/A-18 Interceptor on Wikipedia
Nope. The sub was completely invulnerable. You could land on it and be refueled and rearmed though lol. The game designer, Bob Dinnerman, claimed that destroying the sub carrier is possible, but not required. But to my knowledge, no one has succeeded in destroying it, despite multitudes of people unloading multiple loads and reloads of missiles and cannon rounds into it. I think Dinnerman never actually believed anyone would try hard enough. He obviously didn't know gamers very well.
