I was 6 in ‘91 and this was my only gaming experience until we got a ps1 in ‘96. Still got 100s of game discs.

sounds like the bundle i got too. deluxe paint 2 !! wow, that takes me back. lemmings was a classic too ay. luv'd all these games. Don't think I got that far in many of them though. Lemmings prob I did best in. All quality products at the time. Happy times growing up with the Amiga.

Not sure, I wonder if they just wanted it to last long so people had time to take it in- it did linger a bit too long on each scene, didn't it. As a layman, I don't see how it would be less demanding on the hardware to make the scenes shorter, so I assume they just wanted to make it count, since they had gone to the effort of making an intro that had quite a bit of animation in it. But it was impressive.

It was to allow the disk time to load I think.

You're a person after my own heart have to admit for 1.4 MB it's a lot of animation and sound. We didn't have Sky/Satellite so I never got to watch the Simpsons apart from 2 episodes on VHS very late into the 90's. Of course it had to be the one with the weird characters, you know the one where the whole family look slightly deranged. They see a shrink and end up electrocuting each other. This actually looks better than that ep imo. But yeah i was so impressed with the intro that I would often load it from disk 1 just to watch it, also the sound was amazing, connected to our newly bought separates system. The way it had two channel output with different 'layers' for each side, I would do my exclusive remixes by removing one side then bring it in and dc the other, called me DJ left right no one did!Loved those cracktro's and demos, Crystal, Skid Row, Paradox and of course Fairlight/ They had some great music and graphical effects and the space they used was so low it defies what can be done with a few Kb, usually just 2 usually. I also had the 500 +, I was lucky enough to get the cartoon classics pack I still have Captain Planet in it's box, the boxes back then were nice. SNES had horrid boxes, paper thin which really couldn't handle much handling. I remember some dick at school wanted to swap Thunder cats for Lemmings, only issue was my younger brother liked that horrid game and didn't like Lemmings as it went over his head, he was only 8 at that time. But the worst thing was it was a copy, he wanted an original for a bloody copy! I remember I had to get my old dear to speak to his old dear to get my game back. Bloody fool was asking to borrow Simpsons a few weeks later. Shame I didn't know how to copy at that point. Lastly the compatibility issues were due to Kickstart, the 500 usually had V 1.2 or 1.3, it had a image of a hand holding a floppy, the + had V4.x, purple screen with an animation of a floppy going into the drive along with a click sounded from the drive as the disk went in. You could get boot disks with earlier versions.Also the + had an internal clock with backup battery and double the RAM, 1MB vs 512 Kb. We were lucky to get a great deal, an extra floppy drive and 2 MB of RAM as a bundle and paid £370 which when you consider it's initial price was £349.99 but was quickly reduced by £50. Still remember driving to our local Tandy to buy it. It was a cold, dark winters night and I was having second thoughts. I was only 12 going on 13 and was questioning if I deserved it. I almost told my old man to leave it, but I was very unconfident so kept silent. Also my cousin who was a computer science lecturer persuaded my old man to get one as it would greatly improve his monthly community/religious leaflets. We (me and my brother) had been pestering our folks for close to a year. I better stop here, could type about the Amiga all day but I guess this is enough.

The Amiga 500 3.5" drives were 880KB. All the pauses in the intro are very likely because it had to seek it off the floppy drive. On other computers of the era (eg Tandy 1000, Atari ST, MacPlus) the floppy drive was slow, but because of the seek pattern you could predict exactly where it was in the loading process. Most "good" ports of games were to or from the Amiga, while most bad ports were to the PC. Unfortunately this is Ocean whom is forever know for their crappy licensed games, and you can never predict which port is going to be good. Ironically acquired by Infogames, then Atari, who was also known for bad licenses.

Lemmings is an excellent game obviously, but this one is mediocre and Captain Planet was bad. It really didn't give a good first impression of the system.

That was the main downside of this game. That and the fact that it was bloody difficult

It is for the A500. There are games that look way better than this. Look at stuff like Mr. Nutz, Lionheart, Ruff 'n' Tumble, Superfrog, Apidya, Project-X, Brian the Lion..... This game here isn't very good though.
