I loved playing this game when I was a kid. It not only had this banging loader track, it was a technical masterpiece.

this is the scroller that anchored the Amiga as king. The sound, the action, the quality of the tiles and maps. simply superb... so many lost days ;)

Was missing the SID tunes when I got my Amiga but this has that chip sound. Listened to this a lot.

Thanks for putting this online. Listen often to music of Ron when I am programming. I remember talking with Ron @ my home and we spoke about his music.

This music (and game) was the pinnacle of Amiga gaming. A tonne of inspiraton from the C64 era, and yet cleverly composed with just samples on 4 channels of sound on the Amiga....

Synth sounds here seem to be real time synthesis, at least most of them. Many games of this era mixed drums samples with real time synthesis sounds : Hybris, some of the David Whittaker soundtracks, etc. Amiga could do realtime synthesis without using samples.

@@captainboing I think the next real shooting fun I had on Amiga was with ultra-hard SWIV a few years later (which lacked in-game music!)

Excellent soundtrack with those classic c64 sid type noises. The legendary c64 composer rob hubbard done the megadrive version of these tunes, but it's no way as good as this amiga original.
@porcorosso81
@porcorosso81 Год назад
Those are not "noises" but the typical arpeggiated PWM square waves you hear in many C64 tunes from that time. Aside from the lack of filter, the Amiga certainly can do these type of sounds. In fact, the generally coined term "chip music" has actually its roots in the Amiga scene, to classify this type of music, which only uses a few KB/s of memory, so it can fit in cracker intros, or games which run on stock 512K configurations.

Cool pixel art spaceship, tell me no current gen consoles can compare to pixel art, pixel art runs through my veins like a pc cooling tower.

Where did that logo and ship come from? IOS release?
@Kuokka77
@Kuokka77 9 месяцев назад
Both from Amiga. TOSEC has this Amiga entry: "Battle Squadron - The Destruction of the Barrax Empire! (demo-rolling) (1989)(Innerprise)(PAL).zip". It has the ship in color flying past the screen (too big to fit on the screen all at once, but nothing that a couple of screenshots can't fix). Logo can be seen in the game menu. Then i just combined those two to make this custom image.
