Charlotte offered Kemba Walker a contract for five years, $160 million. That is less than the average annual salary Walker received from Boston (four years, $141 million). I have no idea where you got your numbers, but they are inaccurate.

I don’t know what it is with small market teams having retarded management. No matter how great the player, getting drafted in a small market is a free ticket to wasting a portion of your career. I’m a Cavs fan and I’ll happily admit LeBron getting drafted by the Cavs wasted 8 years of his career and hindered his legacy because we failed to surround him with a championship roster.

This is NOT about whether or not Kemba is worth a 220 million supermax. Personally I would not offer that contract to him. This is about the fact they had a year and a half to trade him and make their team better but decided to do nothing. This comes in wake of every team thirsty to add a star player, especially a point guard.

BenBen Vorlon nobody knows who the next superstar will be. It’s easy to look back at past drafts and say how a team was stupid to select one guy over another. Thing is at the time you don’t know who you have, when Giannis was selected nobody thought he’d be a superstar player. I feel sorry for the Hornets, their fans, and organization. Don’t sleep on Ty Jerome as a solid rookie addition for the Suns. As a rookie he’ll be a role player but he’s an NCAA champ, he has good size for a playmaker at 6’5”, he’s an outstanding passer, and Ty is an excellent deep shooter from 3. They rip on Cam Johnson but he’s also an excellent deep shooter and given the alarming injury rate for young players, maybe it’s a good thing he stayed in school, c’mon now.

Hornets did one of the smartest things they’ve ever done in their franchise history. Kemba Walker is a high usage inefficient player who by no means deserves the max. His team made the playoffs once in the last five years.

In this day and age of superstars moving to Big markets. It is extremely difficult to contend in small markets forget winning a ring. That’s why I Appreciate Spurs for contending for 20 years. If Kawhi stayed there who knows they could have won couple more rings easily. Spurs are the one and only small market to build a dynasty.

(coming from an OG (1988) Hornets fan) Jordan figured out the way to beat the system... keep foreign players = Revenue! Lin, The whole country of China watched Hornets games and bought jerseys... Batum and Parker, France is watching every game, Bellineli, Italy... and can't forget lottery pick Biyombo, Africa etc. the revenue he makes from that increases profit margins. He doesn't care about big contacts and contending when he makes $$$ from international sources!

Its smart not to sign Kemba to the Supermax. My only issue with them is they didnt trade Kemba for draft picks at the trade deadline last season. The problem the Hornets have had since 2013 is that they werent bad enough to get a top 5 pick and when they did get top 5 picks they bombed on them. Its hard to build a team in a small market with draft picks when your stockpiling #9-#12 picks every season. They bombed the 2 drafts after they drafted Kemba. They drafted MKG over Lillard and Bradley Beal in 2012 and drafted Cody Zeller over CJ McCollum in 2013. If they wanted a Defensive Big man they shouldve traded back to get Rudy Gobert who went #27 that year.

Saric is a very good player, Johnson was a great college player, Aron Baynes is a great vet pick up and they didn't have to overpay Rozier. It was a great off season for a team that plays in 100 degree stiffling hot weather 10 and a half months out the year and have not had a star player since Nash. I'd give them at least a C. **Edit: Rubio is an elite passer and Monty Williams was a top 10 coach in the league when he was leading Chris Paul and over the hill old bums to the first spot in the West those years ago. He was a great assistant coach who seriously helped with Embiid's development. Those two are obviously the main attractions here, but their side additions were at least a C.

Them giving Kemba Walker the supermax would have been a MISTAKE! It reminds me of the Celtics because they didnt want to pay I.T. Regardless of an injured hip or not that was just an excuse to justify getting rid of him. However, it's ironic that they sign Kemba to a max deal but they were desperate for a PG I guess. Just like I.T. though Kemba aint gonna lead you to the promise land. He can be the 3rd best player on a title contender. His years with the Hornets as their #1 option and best player, they made the playoffs only a couple of times and then bounced in the 1st rd. What they need to do is rebuild properly through the draft and actually HIT with their picks for once.

Paying Kemba would have been a disaster for them. They could not EVER win with Kemba. Team is capped out with no talent and no real assets. They were going nowhere with Kemba. He had to go and the rebuild was necessary. Where they really went wrong was not trading Kemba a year ago when they could have gotten a decent haul for him and a solid jumpstart to the rebuild.

I think letting Kemba was the right call. My problem were the previous contracts like Batums. At least a few roll off next year. I hope the Hornets proof everyone wrong next year. So much negativity. They should use this as fuel.

Kemba Walker is worth the supermax, just not on the Hornets since they don't have other talent to go with him. Hornets could have traded him last summer for multiple picks and maybe even some young talent. Instead they grossly over pay Rozier, assuring themselves zero cap space for many years to come and virtually no tradeble assets.
