Amir Ghahremani Baghmisheh was a semi-finalist in the 2024 UBC Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. Amir presented their research, "Performance of Tall Timber Buildings in Earthquake". They hope to address the challenge of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing community resilience to disasters like earthquakes.
Amir's research focuses on developing and evaluating the performance of an innovative timber-based modular building under earthquake motion. Their investigation integrates sustainable forest harvesting practices and explores modular construction techniques. The research methodology employs a hybrid testing approach combining physical testing and computer modeling to simulate structural response under seismic conditions.
Amir Ghahremani Baghmisheh is completing their PhD in Civil Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering ‪@UBCEngineering‬ under the supervision of Dr. Tony Yang.
#3MT is an academic competition that assists current graduate students with fostering effective presentation and communication skills. Participants have just three minutes to explain the breadth and significance of their research project to a non-specialist audience.
