Great reaction. Subscribed. Yes, Amira's father is an amateur pianist and organist, her mother and brother are violinists, and her maternal grandfather was an operatic tenor. Amira watches the great divas of the past on RU-vid and sings along with them from an early age. But she has had no formal training. She took part in and won Holland's Got Talent at the age of 9, with her performances now exceeding 100 million views each. She signed a contract with Sony Masterworks (!) and only then got a coach to record her first album. This album won a gold record in just a few weeks and “Voi che sapete” reached number one on classical FM radio in Europe, making her the youngest soprano ever to achieve this feat. She is currently 20 years old and studying BMus at university, her first instrument being classical singing and her second orchestral conducting. She has over a billion views on YT and 90 of her videos have over a million views each. She has recorded several albums, accumulating two diamonds, two platinums and two gold records. She systematically donates half of all her net income to her foundation which builds playgrounds in poor schools in South Africa. And she's been doing this since she was nine years old. Last year she received the South African Anti-Racism Award.

So glad to see your introduction to the amazing Amira. Yes, she was surrounded by classical music in her musical family. When age 7 she felt like joining her violinist brother, Vincent, age 9, in celebrating the Dutch Queen's Day holiday with public music, and singing seemed the easiest music for her to prepare, at short notice: browsing youtube she was drawn to opera arias, and she started singing, with her brother's assistance on what the words meant. Till she auditioned for Holland's Got Talent two years later she had not had any formal training. Andre Rieu invited her for a chat and a master class after her audition was televised, as announced in the tv interview after her golden ticket audition. The lead judge on the tv show also named Maria Callas as whom she sounded like. One cannot stop talking about her; she is as captivating as Sydnie Christmas is. Her three HGT songs are each precious, and the "Ave Maria" for the semi-final is maybe the purest, showcasing her voice and skills. In the final, with "Nessun Dorma", she took over half the viewers' votes. Today she is in her first year of music studies at the University of Pretoria, in South Africa's capital city, not far from her home town of Potchefstroom, where her mother is from, 90 minutes drive west of Johannesburg. She holds concerts whenever she can, and was a regular during her teen years at the annual "Classics is Groot" (Classics are Great/Huge) concerts, at the Sun Arena in Pretoria, where many of South Africa's singing artists come together, each year. She moved to South Africa a few years after winning Holland's Got Talent, in 2013. Last year she nailed Phantom of the Opera, with Ruhan Du Toit ("Toy", for we play with the sounds of French names, in SA), having sung it with him several times before, too; they also combined on a song she wrote about herself and her father, who remains in Holland, and she performs with too, for he is a pianist and organist. Her first duet in SA was "O Sole Mio", with the Italian/Austrian Patrizio Buanne, and they combined a few years later again with "Amigos Para Siempere". Her "Flower Duet" with Corlea Botha is utter perfection, as well.

Definitely one of the most accurate reactions I've ever heard on YT, about this rendition of an iconic aria of the repertoire, by Amira Willighagen. I suscribed! By the way, at the very beginning, around 1600, the first baroque operas were created in Florence by a group of musicians and humanists. They decided to set dramatic texts to music, by imitating Greek tragedies, whose key factor was catharsis. Of course, in the four last centuries, many great sopranos had a cathartic effect on the audience, but none was said to make more people cry, than Amira did in this wonderful performance, at the age of 10.

Yes, Amira has been ... 🤔 ... amazing?, ... 🤔... mesmerizing? ... (I can't find the correct adjetive to define her) since she was a little girl. Now she is 20 and keeps singing as an angel. I wish you decide to show us more Amira. Thank you.

She’s still going strong 10 years later. Just last at 19 she sang in a play of “phantom of the opera” where she worked her way up to hitting the E6 note. Beautifully done.

She turned 20 this year, is still singing and sounds more beautiful than ever. You said something about her not being from this world? Look into her life and you will find that, as beautiful as her voice is, she is an even more beautiful person. She was named soprano of the year and she was, not long after that performance, was named humanitarian of the year, by the Pope. She made her country's Olympic team as a middle distance runner for the 2020 Olympics and didn't get to go because of covid lockdowns. She is now in college studying, of all things, music. One of the most incredible people and singers I have ever had the privilege to come across. Thank you for your reaction.

Her family are amateur musicians, father plays church organ, mother and brother play violin. Amira grew up with classical music playing in the house. She taught herself the operatic style of singing by studying You Tube videos of Callas and others.. She didn't get any coaching untill she won Holland's got Talent, about six months before this performance. That was all ten years ago. She is 20 now and studying for a Ba in music at university. She never stopped singing while she was at school, so there are a lot of YT videos of her available to watch. One of the most recent is when she went back to the HGT stage to sing at an All-Stars anniversary show, and wowed them with the opera aria Ebben? Ne andro lontana, by Catalani. If you pick the longer version you can hear her exchanges with the jury about her career, rather than just the song. She is a glorious soprano, and loves singing, opera, crossover, religious and theatre music. Plenty of examples from 9 years old to present day out there. Oops, I forgot to mention a couple of her recent releases. They are: “DOWN FROM HIS GLORY”. and “AMEN”. Amira and family have a strong religious faith and many of her songs are based on this faith as are both of the above. The first one really showcases her maturity, both in voice & personally. "Here we are again" - The orchestra had just returned to the stage after the interval. For some later performances, try her "Flower Duet " from "Lakme" (Delibes) with Corlea Botha (at age 13); ( "La Virgine degli Angeli" from Verdi's "Forza del Destino" (at age 16); "Gesu Bambino" (at age 18); "Pie Jesu" (Faure) (at age 19).
