Today we went to an Amish Grocery Store called Olde Kountry Market in Vernon NY and stocked up on some wonder items. I am always like a kid in a candy store when I go there. I even was able to stock up on some canning lids!
Our garden was beyond plentiful this year. Between us, my mom, some neighbors and friends we canned over 300 quarts of green bean, 250 quarts of pickles, 1000 ears of corn and bushels of potatoes, tomatoes and peppers from just our garden. We are still harvesting tomatoes and peppers daily so I don’t have a final count for the number of stewed tomatoes, tomato juice and sweet tomato relish that has been canned. The watermelons are still growing but I think the deer are eating them. The garden is a labor of love but it feels so wonderful to be able to bless so many family and friends and keep our family fed also. I hope that you have the same kind of harvest with your garden.
So glad I live by a couple of them. I so enjoy going to them for spices and bulk things. At one they make a cheese spread that is amazing but everything is so yummy!
Hey Shelby! Your videos always bring me so much joy! Last week I was sick (sinus infection/chest cold) and I rewatched so many of your videos! Your voice is so comforting and I love your content! Thank you! I hope you and the family are doing well! 😀
I used to live near Cooperstown. I moved to the fingerlakes region 10 years ago. If you ever take a long drive on a Saturday i highly recommend you check out the windmill (flea Market type event only on Saturdays) and oak hill (store and cafe) outside Penn Yan NY. They both are owned by the Mennonites.
I love when go to the Amish store. It’s such a treat. I couldn’t believe the variety of items and the prices were amazing too. You really scored on the canning lids. I’m watching this just before I go to bed and I have a huge smile on my face. This was wonderful. God Bless!! ♥️♥️♥️
We pick tart cherries every year in July and it takes no time at all. Then we spend HOURS pitting them all and putting them in the freezer. They make the best cherry pie though!
I would be happy they only have the smaller carts or I would have been in severe trouble if I was able to go there lol. Love that store always enjoy when you show these hauls. Gosh some of the spices and mixes. I have never seen horseradish powder what a fantastic idea. And how wonderful to have a Baker in the family yess!
Thanks for taking us along! I love your organization and grocery haul videos the best. The others are great also. Give given me so many meal ideas. Thanks again!
It would be so cool if you wrote a book or a homesteaders manual if you will that included all of your favorite recipes and tips on canning, pickling, vegetable/orchard growing, pantry organization, etc! I would totally buy it lol
Great haul! Some of the things you picked up I haven’t seen before. It all looked so wonderful. I love shopping at our local Amish Market. It’s no where near as large as The Old Kountry Market but I’m ever so grateful to have a source for all the wonderful spices, powders for canning and bulk grains. Please do a canned pantry tour. We would love to see what you have canned up! ❤️
Love when you go there. I'll be in Virginia in Oct. so hope to make a stop then. It would be awesome if you could talk your son into showing us his cookie recipe and him making them. Of course we need you as his sous chef!! Thanks for sharing.
I love the kitchen towels you purchased! I'm collecting different kitchen towels and gadgets for Christmas presents to give to the ladies at church! I would be giddy in that store!
Nice store. I ordered some lids from Menards after watching your previous video. We dont live near an Amish store any longer, but we are heading out for a 3 week trip out west and I'm scouting out Amish and discount stores...lol🤩
we go to a amish market in indiana, actually TWO. one is more food stuffs/ the other is more kitchen items. and a greenhouse to boot. LOVE it. great haul!!
Woohoo! Mini buckeyes!!! I’m from Ohio so that would be a big score! I’ve only run across them mixed in ice cream from a famous shop in Columbus. They would be great in peanut butter cookies for game day treats! Wonder if they ship! Tfs!
I helped a friend yesterday to can an out 20+ jars (I forget how many) of dill pickles, we added 2 cloves garlic and slices onion as well as the celery. We also jarred many pickled beets. From 9a.m to 7p.m we got it all done for her. I would love to go to that Amish store, but I'm in Washington state.
We use the sour cream and onion powder on popcorn. It's so delicious! I also put it in my mashed potatoes and you can use it like you would ranch powder for a veggie dip.
Very nice haul! That's really an amazing store with such a great variety of spices, sweets and veggies. I like pickling too (but with jars with a rubber ring and a glass lid) and have the same amount of beetroot to get on the shelf. I do mine with apples and onions, it's so nice to have some delicious jars with food you can't buy. :)
LOVE THAT PLACE....It is about 2 hours from me so we make a "day trip" out of it. We were just there a few days ago for the open house...the pulled pork sandwiches were AMAZING. Such a wonderful fun place to visit each year. Then we head over to The Bull Farm Antiques....Love that area
Love my Amish spices especially cinnamon because it is so much more flavorful then store bought. My mom brings me some stuff from that store but they just found a new store too. I haven’t been since a visit to Pennsylvania years ago but it is always on my Christmas list. Adding buttermilk powder to my list. Thanks!
I don't want to sound harsh and have supported our local community in this region but I have found it interesting the same products with same labeling in different states I have visited. Outdoor products, all the same. So I have questioned how this is mass produced? Are the Amish producing these products? I do know our local guy is so nice to special order items I request and will give me the catalog he orders from. I usually get bulk herbs for my chickens to make their nesting box mix from frontier brand. Anyway, I enjoy looking in their stores when we visit different areas and like the towels which is something different that you got. I guess in my mind I'm hoping to buy actually amish made products to support them and not 100% convinced this is what I see rather the branding of the name sake.
I am local and have visited The Olde Kountry Market many many times. It is a wonderful store with lots to offer at reasonable prices. I’m always confused as to why people call this an Amish store when it is actually a Mennonite owned store.
I was wondering if it's a mennonite store instead of Amish. Some people dont really know that there's a difference between Amish and the horse and buggy mennonites. 😊
I drive past there all the time and never stop, I definitely need to now! **I know how much you love to stock up on the Hoffman's, the distribution warehouse is on Taft Road in North Syracuse. Much cheaper than buying in the stores.
I love the Amish stores I spend a fortune each time I get to go, which is hardly ever. We always stop and eat at their restaurant too. DerDutchman so so good and I can eat almost all they offer (minus beef and pork) without any tummy issues. I need to know their secrets.
We have an Amish store just like that here. Did you know that if you're planning on buying large amounts of an item, like macaroni, or anything they packaged in bags themselves, you can speak to the owner/manager and they'll sell you the whole unopened case for cheaper than buying it individually? If you're buying the items in the spice aisle they'll specially package an amount larger than the little tubs for you. At least the store here will. Sometimes I have to take the man around the store, specify what and how much then come back in a day or two to pick it up and pay
Lol, I just saw your ending. That will be my vacation trip! I'm so excited that you posted this. There aren't any Amish stores closer to me and I've really been wanting to go to one
Do you what fun is. Go on vacation to italy. At the end go to a supermarket and load your car full off italian food to bring home. From the netherlands its a 12 hour drive to lake gardia
