Amish Owners NEGLECTED This!

We purchased an Amish owned farm from a very nice family in June of 2022 and these pastures had been neglected for years and years. They had their horses and cows on it and never took them off for rest. Their livestock grazed on all the good stuff and left only the bad. But hey, years of neglect isn't all bad. It gives us a learning opportunity on how to completely change a landscape and bring it back to a healthier state.

Never apologize for how you spend your time. It's your most precious resource. Letting your viewers know you appreciate them says a lot, upload when you can. We watch at our convenience, film and edit at yours. We are all adults here with responsibilities, we understand.

Zach, don't feel like you have to be like other channels and 'teach' what you already know. It has been enjoyable watching you 'learn' new things on your journey. Keep up the great job!

Probably don’t even notice it, but it’s so nice how when you’re talking, you always say “we“, and I know that you’re including Ashlyn in the thought process of everything you do, even though she might be at work when you’re filming or when you’re doing something. It really shows that you guys are a great team and that you value her as a partner. I honestly think that is the secret to a Long and happy marriage. 😊

Yay another video! Totally understand you wanting to spend time with family when they're visiting instead of making videos. we do miss the videos when they're sparse but do understand at the same time and thankful for the videos when they do come. Can't believe it's a year already congratulations on the one year. Love seeing all the animals and how you take such great care of them as they live and grown on the farm. You've got such beautiful fall colours down there already! I'm about 6hrs north of you in Canada along the Great Lakes and don't have remotely that kind of colour yet.

It's good to see that you have been able to put out a new video. Wonderful that the two of you are able to keep things in perspective being able to focus on yourselves and family which is probably the most important part of the journey. I'm really looking forward to seeing the RU-vid channel become a greater success in the for the overall business plan for the farm. And I am going to continue to believe that if for now, as gain a better understanding of the lay of the land, and as you put the needed infrastructure in place this venture will ultimately be a huge manageable success making it so that if it is desired the two of you may be able to focus on the farm and homestead full-time. Thanks for sharing.

Very enjoyable to watch your homesteading videos. A very smart, well thought out, methodical way to farm. Your farm is already successful and will continue to be with practices already implemented because of attention to detail to all aspects of farming life. How are your fruit trees. Will you plant more. Success to you both. Very educational.

This video was so helpful. We are trying to figure out how to split up our property for grazing without expensive fencing. If you could do an in depth video of just how you set up this system maybe with drawings to help us follow where the cows go and the gates etc it would be so helpful. I think I understood what you were trying to explain but if you did drone shots with drawn in lines and how the cows get to the water each time that would be great. Thank you so much for really explaining everything you do and what you use and even where you got it sometimes. We are second year newbies to homesteading and all the info is so helpful!! We are also refugees from southern WA 😊

Thanks for sharing your journey. I’m curious about the hot wire you’re using. The cows must be pretty respectful of the single wire. We have dexter cows and I’ve never tried hot wire but they are escape artists with any gap they find in our field fence. Is your energizer solar or tied into 120v source? Thanks again for the insights.
@ThePasturedHomestead
@ThePasturedHomestead 9 месяцев назад
We use a premier one solar energizer! Unhooking any paddocks that they aren’t in of course!

id have to disagree, if we left our cows on these 1/2 acre paddocks for 30-45 days they wouldn't have anything left to eat and the ground would show bare spots. What we are doing is working great for us!

Hey hon, have your chickens follow behind your cows, they'll scratch out the cows dung and eat out the parasites, larva and cut down on your fly population. Just a suggestion.

The Amish community worked together to keep things neat but their numbers dwindled because Washington took their rights of doing things naturally away causing the land to be neglected. So they had no choice but to move so non-Amish could take the land to make the government happy. The owners now have nothing to be proud of that they are surviving because of the bad treatment of others.
@ThePasturedHomestead
@ThePasturedHomestead Год назад
English/American population grows anywhere between .30-.40% each year where as the Amish population is growing at 3% each year, that’s nearly 10x American population… I am however very aware of the FDA’s terrible raids and imprisonment on amish farmers who grow and sell natural products that have been used and proven to be safe for a very long time. If you have time, do research on Sam Girod. Wonderful man who was imprisoned for 6 years because of a salve. My opinion on why this land was neglected was because of a lack of pride in the land itself. I see it frequently throughout this area of amish country. That’s not to say those families aren’t wonderful and caring people, they just aren’t motivated to improve the land they are on.

@ThePasturedHomestead 11 месяцев назад
How do you think animals eat in the wild? Pigs and chickens dig into the ground to find roots and bugs. If we feed our pigs in a dish they push it over onto the ground anyway. I don’t say this to be rude, I say this to help you understand.
@teresahiggs4896
@teresahiggs4896 7 месяцев назад
Animals are NOT humans. They dont have the same feelings that humans do. Pigs and other animals dig and scratch and root on the ground to find bugs, roots and grass . That’s what they do naturally
