Indeed so sad, when your parents leave...after so much fun days with them at home in Amsterdam and traveling around. You both will soon get back yourself and your life. Be brave. I am a bit scared, as I am traveling in November to Kerala via Amsterdam, from Brussels ( with Thalys train till Schipol, transit time only 2 hours and 40 minutes). It total chaos at the moment in Schipol, even Paris, Brussels, London. Like you said, it is better to go through a smaller airport. But there are no much choices from smaller airports. Best wishes
