TheKodiak72, this may have been the case but research also shows not only better ball flight but also less back pressure to firearm-It would probably cause more damage as well and that may have been the original intent for sure-

My dad made shot and it was pretty easy. Cut a channel into a flat piece of wood with a exit channel small enough the make small drops. Let the drops fall into water about six inches deep. A bowl, jar or hole in the ground works fine. You get great shoot with a few tries. Once you get it working right, shoot for life.

Another great video, Dave! Makes me want to ditch my pump shot 12ga and get a single shot to give this a go. :D BTW, If you live in a fishing village, the lead-core ropes used as foot ropes on gill nets have little elongated bits of lead in them. When I was a kid I used to use them in my pellet gun...they were a perfect fit! I'm sure they would make good shot for shotguns as well. Oh, and of course there's lead fish line weights and lead cod jiggers as well! All good sources of lead in a pinch. :)

Dave, another great video. I came across an article in the lastest issue backwoodsman magazine the article was written by a man named Dale Shadle. He talks how many to make shot by running melted lead through window screen, letting it drop about twenty feet into cool water. In the article he says it will lead the barrel of your fowler because it the shot is not coated. I would be glad to send the info to you just let me know.

Hey Dave, shooting a bit low with a shotgun at 25m is normal. The bead sights on most shotguns are zeroed at 100m. The 2" pull right is either your trigger press, you might have too much finger through the trigger guard, or being that you are left handed, your strong hand may be unconsciously pushing the barrel minutely in anticipation of the shot. My sister has the same issue because she is left handed and right eye dominant, if she anticipates the shot she always hits at 3-4 o'clock. Semper Fi

@hartstudebakerkid
@hartstudebakerkid 10 лет назад
Get a pamplet called Gold and Fish. In your area you should have somethig similar and then get a gold pan and do some prospecting. The public land is open year round... some animals are open to hunt year round so do some panning and you should be able to occupy some public land for weeks at a time. Round here it is two weeks.... after that you can file a letter of intent which costs nothing and "placer mine" longer.

I see the Hair Nazi's are out in force today making snide comments about Dave's hair. Any of you ever thought about how much time the man spends outdoors in winter ? Keeping your head and face warm in winter is by far more logical than trying to please the white-wall police. Ever see a picture of Arctic explorers, deep sea hard hat divers, or Mountain men running a trap line in winter ? There's a good reason why 98% of them have a lot of hair from the neck up. Warmth. Besides, Dave makes it look good.

Dave great Video, for the people having problems watching the vid over the last couple of hours, YT updates certain things at certain times of the day, I think, for me in the UK it happens just after midnight up till around 0200 every night (I work the night shift) and any vid over a minute I have problems viewing especially the new uploads, which happens to be Dave's and other US channels due to the time differences.

@hartstudebakerkid 10 лет назад
I would use choated shot. Choated shot is plated. Some BBs are choated shot as I recall it is Daisey brand BB guns that require it. That whole mess with California is gonna kill most hunting simply because of the idiots that wrote the legislation. You cant hunt with lead but you can still practice. I have made some good varmit loads by cutting up 10-14 gage copper wire.

Works like a charm!!!! Received my .710 mold and collapsable ladle this past week. I had some time today so I went out back to cast several balls. I used a plumbers torch on a small propane tank and in about 20 minutes I had ten perfect .71 caliber round balls. The filing of the sprue and adding dimples with a rasp file was the quickest part of the whole operation. They look fantastic and I will be shooting them out of my NEF at the range in a couple of weeks....... Thanks Dave
@John76220
@John76220 10 лет назад
no problem for me, but only watchable in 240p i have the same mold from T.O.W, and i think the sprue cutte r is generic, so it's the same sprue cutter for all caliber. i think it work well with small caliber but is a pain in the A.. when it comme to a large ball. oh and dave, is it possible to ship this adapter to france ? is there a regulation about that in usa ?
@matthunt5013
@matthunt5013 10 лет назад
Awesome! have you ever thought about storing away lead ingots? I think it would be a wise idea for anyone owning a shotgun of any kind...if you could find molds to make slugs, 00 buck, and 1-8 shot I think you would be good to go for any type of situation whether it be self defense or hunting....I would also store black powder and smokeless powder and of course primers
@asheradensein
@asheradensein 10 лет назад
Dave, If all you have is round ball, you can melt it and drip the hot lead into a bucket of water; makes some decent shot in a pinch. Not perfect, and the size varies, but it'll do if you've got nothing else.
@hartstudebakerkid
@hartstudebakerkid 10 лет назад
You might try 000 buck shot instead in that 12 gage as on deer size targets it is much harder to miss. I do that for reloading shotgun hulls and blackpowder. Also have you tried melting lead in your ladle and dripping it a drop at a time into a can of water. I made some nasty keyholeing black powder loads that way.
@chowdermarshmellows
@chowdermarshmellows 10 лет назад
Where do you find a lead ladle without a handle like Dave has? Online, it can't find any and I would like the compactness of one without a handle that I could put a stick into for one. Also the cheapest I have seen the ball mold was $40. Is there any cheaper? He mentioned 30, but I can't find it.

I have never seen a 73 cal gun shoot a 50 cal round, If you are shooting factory slugs they are most likely well over 50 cal. I cant answer that cause I have never heard of it, but a Mod Choke Smoothbore 12GA for ML needs 710 balls
