Don't need to Imagine. I was done in real time back in the Medieval Era. To the Colonial Era. Ironically enough. The Spanish didn't do it that often. The British however had a field day doing that.
Gray didn't want her there it was Danny's idea because he was obsessed with her eyes. Gray gave Rachel the Bible that by hiding it in her room to give her the belief in God then made her into on of the sacrifices for his experiment... so she technically went into the building willingly as an angelof death, but she didn't techically willing become a sacrifice.
@@Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent British people are so quirky Umm I just want to add that I entirely meant that as a way to mock the disgusting people who did that to other human beings. If you are offended by my comment please tell me and I will take it down. I’m saying this because I can’t tell whether my comment is offensive or not. It was not my intention to make light of a horrific situation.
Watching this they avoided the "Oh no! Don't die! I love you" trope. The main character doesn't want love. She just wanted to die. It's sort of a "happy" ending. She got what she wanted. She was not overly dramatic about wanting to die. If someone is determined enough, they can do practically anything. Also, Zack is good for keeping his promise which is actually good. She wanted death. She got death. No big scene where you see people crying or getting angry. It's rare to see the mc not changing their mind about everything ((rare to me anyway)).
I am not sure. I felt like the death thing was a metaphor for love and pedophillia. Just take the weird doctor. He didn't 'love' her but he was mega sus. Only one guy was said to love Ray and he was her age, that being the pumpkin boy. He was the only legal one. I really think it's romantic obsession that was supposed to be toxic. They just carried it over the edge with the death thing but I think it was about romantic obsession all along.
For me personally I think Zack survived and here's why, When we see Danny get crushed Gray is gone. Which probably means gray survived and is how Zack got out and knew were Rachel was. Because Gray told Zack were she was and even gave him a new scythe. In the game Zack did kill someone before he broke in through the window so that explains the blood, the window in the game was reinforced with iron bars as well. So the whole Rachel K.O'd herself by throwing herself out that window doesn't hold up. The knife probably means something a bit different than what People first think, The knife is something very important to Zack and ties him to his past and the knife ties Rachel to Zack and the promise they made for Zack to kill Rachel. The meaning behind it being left behind could mean that both Zack and Rachel have decided not to fulfill that promise now that they have each other, because they are the only two people in the world that actually understand one another. They are each others only friend. One last thing, In a sense you could say Zack did kill Rachel, But at the same time he brought Ray back to life. What I'm saying is Zack killed the emotionless girl she was who wanted to die, because without Zack Ray doesn't want to live and she doesn't show emotion. Also the idea that Zack would actually die from the execution doesn't make sense to me because we see him survive multiple fatal things, Lethal ejection and electrical chair being two of those things. Final reason, Zack and the killer from the movie which started his path of murder might be similar. We are told in the game that the killer in that movie doesn't die at the end so why would zack?
@@matthewfox9775 they're falling slowly, There's no way Rachel would be able to fling herself out that window if she was hallucinationing, doesn't help we 1. Don't see them fall in the game and 2. The anime took the bars off the window. Also about the game as well, there is a news paper thing that says both Zack and ray are missing.
The creator said themselves that Ray & Zack both survived & escaped together. It’s not a figment of Ray’s fractured psyche, she didn’t throw herself out the window, and she didn’t kill herself with the knife. I like fan-theories as much as the next guy, but if the creator says it, then that’s it. *They* created it. *They* decide the ending and what it means. Simple as that.
@@NoMustang273 If the author says it while they’re *alive,* then that’s it. Yes, people can come up with their own interpretations of a story (I do it too), but the creator is the one who decides what it actually means. If the creator dies without giving the actual meaning of a story, then yeah, go nuts, but if they give the meaning while they’re still alive, then their death doesn’t change the fact that’s how they meant it to be. And then there’s authors/creators who purposely don’t give away the meaning and encourage their fans to come up with their own interpretation. Take Freddie Mercury & Bohemian Rhapsody for example, the only person he (allegedly) told the true meaning of the song to was Brian May, and he still hasn’t revealed it to the world (and likely never will).
@@mongoose1628 there’s 2 possibilities that I know of: 1) Zack killed a bunch of people as he escaped prison, so it might be from his clothes, and 2) Zack injured himself while breaking the window (I think that’s what happened in the game because it had bars on it). I’m not sure if the creator specified that (I’ll have to go back & look), all I am sure of is they said they survived & escaped together.
@@SpiritedHeart94 that's not what "death of the author" means my friend. The phrase refers to the idea that A) works stand on their own B) any consistent interpretation of the work is equally valid With the reasoning being that while authorial intent is certainly an important angle, the way a piece of art is experienced is essentially part of the performance; also the fact that authorial intent is impossible to ascertain, even if an author says something you have no way of knowing that that really is what they had in mind when they created the piece, and haven't changed their mind/are straight up lying. You're not required to agree to the principle (it's certainly not an unshakeable foundation of reality or anything), but this is what people mean when they invoke the "death of the author" (which refers to the title of the article that codified the concept, not the literal death of a person).
*I'm not sure if it is true,* but apparently the ending is something made up in rachel's mind, and that she jumped to her death. as zack as already dead
I heard in some manga interview, the author confirmed that they both ran away together Edit: I'm an idiot for not doing a simple research, check out my other reply debunking this statement
@@mysteryman111100 I made that comment without any thought and only rely on my old one year memory. And I finnaly did a search about this and the more i search it, the more i realise it's a false information. It's all happened when someone claim a piece of image claiming it was from manga interview. In the image it said "They suddenly dissapeared with the full moon". Only later for someone realized that it WASN'T from manga interview, it's from FAN MERCH. I'm deeply apologize for dissapoint you. But now, it's make it clear that Angel of Death ending is intended to be OPEN ENDING by the author (and it wouldnt make sense for the author to suddenly said that they supposed to run away together)
Scythe was broken, so as a few commenters said below she most likely hallucinated and killed herself, hence the blood on the window which was most likely from her using his knife to crudely break the window herself, then proceeding to jump out. Not sure if I ever finished this anime actually, so thanks for the video dawg
They're both alive. In the novelization the police search for Zack and Ray but cannot find any information on their whereabouts. The blood on the window is actually Zack's, as in the novelization and the game he is injured when he shows up at Ray's window, as the police tried to execute him as he was put to death.
Zach is beautiful, he is the love child of shadow te hedgehog and Jeff the killer Heard someone say that before, found it amusing The details are more obvious in the game
I have watched this anime about a year ago, and it's really good if you're into this type of anime, and there was a game before the anime and it goes more in depth into Angels of Death.
@@saliytg5975 I suggest watching stuff like sao, rising of the shield hero or dragon ball z. It does get depressing at some points and there are some points where it can trigger people in 2 out of the 3 animes I have listed, but there isn't any gore in any of them and there's only blood at some points, and there are more happy moments than depressing ones. I also suggest staying away from redo of a healer as it gets much darker than angels of death, I would know because I have seen angels of death (Really enjoyed because of it's story) and heard plenty about redo of a healer. I personally like all sorts of anime, like one punch man, demon slayer and many others, but there are some I stay away from, like redo of a healer or evangelion for them both being messed up in their own ways.
I found this anime at random and absolutely adored it. And I still do! I love the intro song, and the outro song is ominous as fuck in such a beautiful way too! I wish so many more people knew of it. I was in a stage of my life where I was very depressed and had similar mannerisms to Rachel, so I sort of related in that sense. (I mean, I’m still depressed, but I act the way she does less often as of now.) And this is a rare case where I can recommend the dub because the show isn’t trying to give you the fan-service-y anime experience with awkward voices and crap. Everybody sounds relatively normal save for Zack who is always shouting or cursing/being vulgar-but in a strangely lovable way. He was definitely my favorite character. I wish there was another season because I enjoyed the anime so much, but at the same time, I’m not even sure what else would happen in the story other than 100% confirming what exactly happened at the end of season 1 in case people really want to have it cleared up for sure.
Unfortunately there won't ever be a second season. This anime was based off a RPG maker game of the same title, and follows exactly the same events as the game. It's heavily insinuated that both Zack and Ray are dead. So I don't see how a second season can happen.
wow this anime has so many layers.....like how the church, big pharma, psychiatric wards and the foster care system are all perversely intertwined. As well as, the unique love story between the two characters.....where the realistic existence of zach is questionable and ray found the strength to fight and search for him after hearing of his death. zach is her angel of death and his mercy upon her shows that she's finally been forgiven after passing all the tests. poor kids.
I think ive heard this somewhere but she hallucinated that zack came back and she killed herself however this may not be true due to the fact of the glass being inside the room instead of outside.

Zack is considered an angel and a perfect human in Gray's eyes because he's authentic. Zack doesn't try to be someone he's not and he doesn't ever lie. Which was made more grounded when he told the police everything after his arrest. He's simple and pure (not in the sense of murder, but his character). Which makes him my favorite anime character.
This is one of my favorite series of all time. I’ve been trying to also collect the manga for over a year now since it’s so hard to find, really underrated. The original game is also really fun.
He's 20 something and she's 13 I can't ship it people are sick who do that- I see Zack like an angel of death who came to take Rachel after she ki**ed herself.
I remember telling some people in a comment section that Rachel is 13 and Zach is in his 20s and that's its not ok to ship them and everyone in the comment section told me to shut up and that they didn't care
Yay! SNT!! 2:23 yeah, i still think that he is a good boy, maybe a good psycopatic boy. 3:06 in the original game Garden of Roses (BMG) is a nice song in my opinion 3:17 a normal day with Zack 4:05 a normal day with Zack, episode Two 4:36 a normal day with Zack, episode Three 4:52 Fun Fact: in the manga Satsuken, it is revealed that it was actually all in his mind, the movie was totally normal, he just went nuts 5:36 kids having guns... yeah, a normal day in america, also, You don't fuck with Ray 5:58 a normal day with Zack, episode Four 6:30 Gray just made a minor smoke drugs, a normal day in the facility 7:40 that homeless (yes, he was a homeless guy) uncle is so cute, giving home to a serial killer 8:05 a normal day with Zack, episode Five 9:50 a normal day with Zack, episode Six 13:23 Danny just survived getting its chest stabbed by a Scythe and now getting shot in the stomach, lets talk about this 13:34 because: yes, they could 14:32 Now, Danny got Stabbed, got shot by a pistol and now got an arrow stuck two times in his chest and arm, and still didnt die, seriusly, lets talk about this 15:40 a normal day with Zack, final episode
I always loved this anime so much, you retold the story well. I’ll always hate not knowing the conclusion to the story because they leave it up to interpretation, but it’s an amazing show anyway
Wait... I remember this being an RPGMaker game, or at least something like it? I swear Zack and the alleyway is so familiar to me and I remember the level layout too...
This seems to be both a social experiment and a collection Of individual psychopaths And seeing how they react in their new artificial environment Especially given the opportunity to explore each other's environment environment and how they behave
man I remember this anime so much this anime was the one who got me addicted to anime can't believe it's been so long since it was released and now it's slowly gaining attention
Thank you so much for making this video. I saw it last year and quickly went to find and watch Angels of Death and now I am forever obsessed with this show, especially Zack ❤

I watched this anime back in 2018-2019 and again in 2020, it was insane. Gave me chills a couple times. I liked it because they didn't try and romanticize a killer/victim relationship. They made it clear Ray didn't want to fall in love with this person who kills and wants to kill her. Ray wanted death, and they made sure that it was the only connection between the two. I liked it because it was different from what you usually saw at the time. There was nothing in it that was filler, it was just "Ray wants to die, she does things to make that happen." TLDR: I liked it, it's nice if you want a twisted anime to watch.
I really love the rpg and it's one of my favorites. I love the story and all. When I found out it became an anime I screamed my heart out 😂 also I suggest you play the prequel or side story about the other character who is eddie? I forgot the name but its the guy in the graveyard floor. its a sad one :"(
ray and zack are in heaven together now. edit: wow, i dont remember commenting this.... but its nice to get reminded that this anime exists. this makes a grown man cry
Hi I was wondering if you knew the actually name of the anime because I wanted to watch it but I have no idea what its called. So if you know the name.could you please tell me.
also the ending is never confirmed on if zach killed her or she killed herself or didnt die at all theres no evidence on a ending at all because how did zach have his scythe when it broke? anyways it worth the watch
@@Rosekyu pretty sure the game doesnt explain it, but im pretty sure she doesnt die in the end? and his scythe broke because of extended use and being used to break large objects im assuming
what i meant was that how did zach have the scyhe at the end when he had broke it before hand and its not confirmed on what the real ending is im pretty sure
I have nothing against modern anime... but why don't you cover old anime as well? Something like... "The Rose of Versailles", or "Lupin the Third", "Little Pollon", "Mock of the Oak Tree", "Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water", "Lum Invader". To name a few. I'm curious. I don't wanna jump to conclusion, but I presume this channel is a "branch" of Mystery Recapped (or similar), and those channels mainly focuses on lesser known/foreign movies, so it would make sense if an anime branch would do the same. Now sure, you are free to do your own stuff and you are not forced to follow the suggestion of a rando, but... It does bug me. Why (so far) you only covered modern anime and not "ye olde" ones?
@@AniRecaps Ah. Well, you still didn't said "I'll never do those", this makes me happy. (and again, don't feel forced to do that. When you'll have the right time to focus on those, I still suggest the ones I listed to start with the oldies)
i so want another season or an ova of what happens after the end of season one last episode ...such a dark and twisted yet has some unfinished romance that i really wish for ...i fuxking love them :( really wish they got out safe and lived their life as runaways 🙄the fact that rachel is able to bring the good back in zack was so heart touvhing for me ..and ray really brings about seflessness for the first time in zacks life ..for once he wants to cherrish someone else and care for them and put them first ...it really teaches us how the world is full if unfair events and how trust and little bit of human kindess and change a person
Since the original game ends there, I don't think there will ever be another season but there can be OVA because I seem to recall there being a game about the pumpkin kid.
my sister told me to watch it when I was a kid and i couldn't understand a lot even tho, now that i re watched it and saw this video in my recommendations I can say that I love this anime
This anime seems to fall under the Dark Comedy category. In ancient Greek plays, there are either Comedies or Tragedies. Comedies end in an ending that is desired while a Tragedy does not. As this anime is dark in theme with both main characters getting what they want in the end, it can be said to be a Dark Comedy.
ray reveals she was in counsiling after witnessing a murder when zack collapses from his wounds... the two proceed to the elevater when zack collapses from his wounds
I used to watch anime but haven't really gotten back into it, I like watching your channel to see if I ever might get back into it. I think I might after I watching your channel for a while.
