Soak hose in hot water first, hook hose up to aquarium intake and output in aquarium, run hose to filter and its easier to now cut to correct length . Easy peasy.
I just purchased this same canister a couple of days ago and I assure you it is not. It is built very solid and very well. I'm afraid it was the person handling the equipment that was lacking.
