The city of a thousand year, Oujda; by virtue of its location, it has experienced wars, problems, calamities, and destruction for several times until the end of the second millennium.
At the beginning of the third millennium, Oujda entered another period, which puts it among the developed cities such as Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, and others.
Development
Oujda is located at the far east of North of Morocco.
it is 7km from border point of Zoj Bghal border, 60km from the mediterranean, and 150km from Melilia city.
The crossroad between northern Africa and southern Europe
It has Mediterranean climate, dry and hot in summer. Cold and rainy in winter, where rainfalls does not exceed 150mm.
Despite its harsh natural condition, Oujda had diverse products such as extensive orchards and livestock thanks to its groundwater.
The city’s economy depends on the commercial sector, which is represented by the transit of goods to the rest of the cities of Morocco and Algeria, and on the industrial and tourism sectors to some extent because of its religious and historical monuments.
Oujda has been a place of settlement for many Amazigh tribes.
The Arab tribes started to flock to Oujda, with the beginning of the Islamic expansion, and they began to settle in neighborhoods named after the families that inhabited them, as well as Jewish community that coexisted with the locals.
