Doesn't sound as if there is much clean headroom, but hey my Vox AC15 can chore that duty. There is one of these little babies for sale near me in little Switzerland and I might just try to scoop it up. Do you know what tubes this amp runs? And Bro, you might want to run a vacuum over that rug as it is beginning to look mighty gnarly with that Q-Tip and assorted fuzziness out and about!

I posted on another Ampet Jet vid: The trem is really beautiful and lush on these. 5-7 volume, it is sweet. For small gigs, this can be perfect. I've been told to turn down volume at restaurant gigs. And of course if you have a stage mix and a house mix, miking it is really perfect. Anyway, note that these early sixties J-12 amps came in three flavors/tube configurations. The J-12-B, which is my favorite, running two 6V6 power tubes and 6SL7 preamps. The 6V6 are commonly available new and NOS of course, and the 6SL7 (or 6SN7) are fairly easy to find NOS.. 5Y3 rectifier on these. The J-12-D, which had twin 7591 power tubes had a solid state rectifier I believe. Also 6BK11 preamp tubes. These aren't easy to find so keep that in mind. the 7591 power tubes used to be hard to find but are now being manufactured new. the 7591 tubes produce a bit more power than the 6V6s if I remember correctly...so you get a little bit more headroom. A little less warm in general than 6V6s if memory serves. Then, another very viable model, was the J-12-A. This also had the 7591 power tubes, but also had the better and more available 6SL7 preamps and the 5Y3 tube rectifier. _____ From Fender Discussion Page thread: Be aware that 6BK11 tubes are VERY hard to find. However a 6C10 is a direct sub. E-H makes a 7591A, which is actually a re-wired 6L6. JJ also has a true 7591. Avoid the older E-H/Sovtek 7591XYZ's, as they require re-wiring of the tube sockets. _____ The Jensen Concert Series "Alnico 5" are not alnico, they are ceramic, with the little flat hockey puck magnet...and sound great. They are worth getting a recone job done if they are failing. Although these do sound great with single coils, a humbucker will load the preamp more and result in greater overdrive. Very sweet. They are very prone to the top panel of the amp chassis, that's chrome, getting pitted with rust. Sometimes if they were stored ina basement, the panel will be almost completely rusted. If you find one with zero rust, buy it. Make sure to get a cap job done and get a three prong power cord installed by a good amp tech. if you are buying one that has not been played in a long time. Take my info for what it's worth; I'm a player, Jet J-12-B owner, and a gear enthusiast- not an established expert of any kind.
