Ampeg SS70 1X12 High Gain Death Metal. 

Its an awesome amp. Weird how, the more you turn up the volume the better the sound gets, very rare for a solid state. I sold the amp to a friend though. Luckily he only lives about 10 min away.

@@TheSpineSplitter1990 Man I'm glad you left that comment! I have a couple ss140 and if the volume isn't at least on 2 you get kind of a clean tone mixed in LOL..Weird.

Definitely get it, I sold mine to a friend.. so I'm lucky that I can borrow it anytime. I want to test it through my Vader cab.

Sick! Running it through a full 4x12 cab and also throwing in an Overdrive is the best thing to do.

Sick! Suffocation, Gorguts, Dying Fetus and Assuck got me into these solid state Ampegs. There's 3 VH140c's for sale in my area which I am considering getting the 2x12 combo if the guy replies to emails..

@@TheSpineSplitter1990 Go for it bruh, Suffocation are my favorite band ever, I have a framed print of Effigy from Dan Seagrave, all the albums on vinyl, I am excited for the despise the sun reissue. But yea, don't give up on solid state and the old school, there's always new avenues to walk down. The combo is exactly the same as the head, so don't feel any kinda way getting the combo. I wanted a combo myself, but got a great deal on a head.

@@LavabugI know they are from Missouri which is where ampeg is from, but how do you know specifically they used the ss series, out of curiousity, and isnt that the rarer one of the series?

@@TheGreatBaronOBeefDip Because I saw it on Mike's facebook page. Yeah they're rare, probably the same preamp as the VH.

I've only tried it once through a 4x12 cab at a show, the sound was much fuller, no difference in volume though. I rarely have any issues hearing myself on stage, unless the singers PA is over powering everything else. The drummer in my band is a hard loud hitter and the bass player I believe uses a 200 watt bass amp.

Nice, they really are kick ass loud amps. They are built like tanks. Iv'e had mine for about 7 years now, I only got it because I couldn't find the Ampeg VH140c. At first I did like that raw distortion cause it gave me that early 90s death metal sound.. but now I am leaning towards a more modern death metal sound, so I got the Amptweaker to tighten up the low end and the noise gate was a bonus so i had to get it. Any way I am also not liking that high end harsh sound especially when playing leads. Amptweaker makes this Depthfinder eq Resonance and Presence which is what you would find on a tube amp, or a simple boss EQ pedal might help. I've been thinking of switching out the speaker on mine, its a Celestion G12K-85, which I hope that might fix that harsh sound..

@@TheSpineSplitter1990 I was thinking the same thing regarding the speaker as a remedy for the harsh highs. Despite my issue with the tone, I'm super happy I bought it. It is a killer little combo that packs a huge punch.

The SS series in my opinion is a lot tighter than the VH series, this one has the right amount of gain. Although a clean boost will definitely compliment it. This amp is insanely loud for a 70 watt, mine had a Celestion G12K-85 speaker. Gigged with it for about 9 years with a hard hitting drummer and loud bass player. Check out the band Assuck they played and recorded with the Ampeg SS150. What I really liked about this amp was that the louder you turn it up, the better it sounds. I got mine for $180 years ago, there are two versions, the blue line and black line, never figured out the differences between both. The Ampeg combos are not very sought after, only because people don't think of them useful for heavy sounds.
