Amrita Pitam is a poetess, never again. How bold she had been in acceptance of the facts and to face everything. I feel, Amrita had come to this earth s bit earlier.
I was in grade six when I first read this. I had listened to my grandparent's hakeekat, my parents who had just gotten married, how they had suffered for three and half months of travel by foot, the attacks, the destruction, the loss of millions of lives, the heavy rains when the Heavens also cried tears through rain enough to wash away all the sins of human beings, how it took them another four years to find the place to call home and how they never wanted to build anything again because on this earth nothing is everlasting ours.I have memorized this poem in my heart and it will stay there forever till I leave. They are all gone but Amrita ji has compressed all the history, a very painful history in this. This is equivalent to the history of Punjab of 1947 in one and one poem only. Yes, I agree it was the British who wanted to and had destroyed Punjab but our own leaders of that era also played a huge part to leave this earth with the blood of millions, old, young, children, orphans, widows, homeless, the ones who were sacrificed to sickness, hunger and in pain so that they can enjoy power; will always have their blood on their hands.Yet, even today we cannot portray our own history in real form. We have to sugar coat it.My Punjab, I love this land, I pray for this land. Please God never again be this cruel to my people. They have pure heart. Jews had one Holocaust this was many times more but no one shed even a tear for my people. Only us for one another. Only the people of Punjab on both sides can understand what partition was. Ek sehlaab si siyaasat da. Sab bahaa gyaa. Sab dhaa gyaa. Love from Punjab, India
This poem brought tears to the eyes of millions of people on both side of the border. Amrita Preetam has gone, but this poem will always keep her alive. It will always keep bringing tears to my eyes.
I have always tears in my eyes when I listen this poem , and can not understand how punjabi killed each other , shame on punjabi s , I think it’s time to say these criminals who did that crime against own people are not ours , it’s why I hate religion and I am punjabi nationlist , hope one day , we are in united Punjab again , and these religious elements have less power , only we are united for our Punjab , Punjab of waris shah bulleh shah baba Farid Gru Nanak and tilla jogian

well, it's 1am and I'm listening Amrita pritam voice , she speak truth that what happened with my forefathers who migrated from Jammu to Sialkot , exactly same was happened across and along the river Chenab and adjacent bella's , I do have tear as what she speak was bitter truth.

Some say hindu did the partition some say Muslim league but how can we forget that Britishers did that , Mountbatten did that . We show our resentment against each other but we do not know that it were the Britishers who made gulf bw hindus and Muslims
@MrMadahar Gold comes from dirt, the lotus grows in mud and heena only gives you colour after crushing. A poet has to experience all the parts of life (good, bad and ugly) in order to summarise and give us an inspiriing, thought provoking line. Amrita wrote about things she could feel sensitively. Who do you seek directions from to Moscow ? From someone who has been there and exprienced the road or someone who has read about it? Remaining in love-less marriage like others today was not her!
@aliasali1. May we never go through such madness ever again. My father moved from muzzafrabad to Jammu and no one else made it. Jammu still wails for those who migrated to Sialkot.
