Hindustani raga Behag while borrowed into our Carnatic Music as Behag its basically used for short pieces and light songs sung at the tail end of the concerts.Of course, over the period of time it has been increasingly gaining popularity in the Cutchery circuits too.Being a ragam with vakra (zigzag) scale and having foreign notes, one can say that Behag can be more defined by its distinct phrases than by just a scale. Carnatic Behag however has been influenced by other ragas such as Khamas and has foreign phrases and notes beyond its Ma’s, according to Prince Rama Verma. "smara janaka shuba charitha... akhila lokanayaka! mamava" the Maharaja Swathi kriti is sung by Amrita very melodiously ....blissfully as well as fervently...with a lovely swarakalpana. Pakkavadyams gave an excellent support n motivation!
There are very specific musicians with Kerala connections who have been swirling in carnatic circled. Baby Sriram, N aj Nandhini, Amruthe Venkatesh ( belongs to Karnataka but studied music mostly in Kerala) are prominent ones in the list. Melodious voice, fluent music, good delivery mechanism embellish their renditions.
