Hello everyone! 😀 Have you purchased a ticket elsewhere and not mentioned in this video? Please share it below.

We are USA residents and recently visited Amsterdam. We just used our smartphones ( via Apple Pay ) to tap in/out for ALL transportation. No ticket or travel card needed whatsoever. It was extremely impressive, and likely the best option for visitors from abroad like us!

This is the comment i have been looking for. There is not a single RU-vid video that mentions Google or Apple Pay for transportation in Amsterdam. We used our phones in London to tap in and out of tubes, buses and trains. So easy. All these cards she’s mentioning here are so damn confusing. You have to know absolutely every minute of your itinerary to know which one to get so you can save half a euro.
@farmecologist3395
@farmecologist3395 8 месяцев назад
@@ebeyslough I agree...so easy! The one downside is the lack of discounts when using your phone. The cards seem to offer offer a much better value in some instances. But for a visiting a short time, the savings are negligible. By the way, you can use Google/Apple pay everywhere in the Netherlands. We also used out phones for the train to/from Haarlem, etc... Good to know we can use Google/Apple Pay in London as well! Last time we visited, that wasn't available.
@ebeyslough

@@farmecologist3395 so we just went through both London and Amsterdam, and contactless mobile payments like Google and Apple Pay work perfectly for all transports like buses, trams, subway and ferries. There is one minor difference between the two, but potentially huge. If you and your travel party happen to share the same credit card, it works perfectly in London. In Amsterdam, however, they treat the shared card the same so it won’t work. You can beep your first traveler with the phone, the machine that scans the person following you in this case will be treated as the same so he/she will end up tapping out. So in Amsterdam, make sure each one of your travel party have their own separate card (debit, credit, etc). That’s what we ended up doing.
@antarasarkar12
@antarasarkar12 7 месяцев назад
So you just get into a tram/metro/bus and scan your phone? That's it. This is so incredible. I'm so thankful you commented. I'll be visiting from India. And I'm hoping this will work for me too.

I think that for most tourists, it simplest to just tap in and out using contactless payments (apple or google pay / debit- or creditcard), as you clearly explained at 1:20. Especially because this works on _all_ modes of public transport in the entire country, without having to use an app or to register, this makes it very easy! Thanks for the helpfull video!

Hello, thank you very much for the video, it is very very explained! I just have one question regarding the OV chip card. Is it necessary to tap both before and after getting off the vehicle? What happens if I run out of available balance? Is it possible to reload it online or are there machines at the stations where I can top it up? Thank you very much.
@pocketlighthouse
@pocketlighthouse 12 дней назад
Hi there, thank you for your positive comment about this video. Yes, it is definitely a must to tap your OV chip card getting on and off the vehicle. I'm afraid I don't know what happens if you run out of available balance on either your personal/anonymous OV chip card - but I believe there are varying minimum balances depending on the mode of transport. I think it's €4 for bus, tram & metro, and €20 for the trains, but it's best to double check with NS, GVB etc about this. And yes, you can reload on the machines.

Thank you for this, it was very informative! I'll have a long layover in Amsterdam (around 8 hours) during my next trip. I plan to visit the city center and do some sightseeing, mainly from the outside (I don't think I have the time to visit museums). Do you think I should get a ticket for public transport (and which one), or is it better to walk and just buy the train ticket from and to the airport?
@pocketlighthouse
@pocketlighthouse 14 дней назад
Thanks for your comment here. If you're only here for 8 hours, depending on what you're doing, a GVB ticket or your bank card contactless function (OV Pay) depending on which is more economical. For the train ticket to and from the airport, you can either buy a ticket or use your bank card (OV Pay) again too.

Hi, the GVB ticket is just for central amsterdam. It doesn't cover the trains. If you're taking the train from the airport to your hotel and visiting Zaandam, then you'll need to get train tickets. Alternatively, you might also consider some of the other ticket types mentioned in this video (which include all forms of transport).

Travelling to Sloterdijk from the airport you will be in luck, because bus 369 is a GVB bus and will work with the GVB ticket. Going to Zaandam requires a train, which needs a different ticket. From Sloterdijk to centraal station is doable with the GVB metro or bus 22 but it will be a longer journey compared to the train, but will usable with your 48h ticket!

Day 2 from hoofddorp to check in new hotel near Amsterdam cemtral station. Proceed to zansee sans and Zaandam and back to local city tour without any museums from inside. Only free look from outside. 3rd day check out from hotel and see Amsterdam city central with Adam lookout swing. Later evening to belgium. Can you help us which option will be better to purchase, whether single tap on 1st day and 2 days regional 0r City pass.. also children fare not aware.. if free or hald fare or half fare pass. If you use google maps, the directions include which bus company runs it. GVB buses are white and blue, and have their branding easily visible.
