Full build of an AMT 83 Camaro 1/25 scale model kit sitting on a FFR SC1 RC chassis. I wanted to strike a nice balance of scale realism but also not making the car overly complex by utilize an existing RC platform rather than doing a complete custom chassis like with other builds. The result turned out awesome! Aside from a few minor cosmetic short comings that I talk about in the video, I couldn't be happier with how the car turned out. The driving performance as well is spot on to how I wanted it to be. Smooth even at low speeds, and plenty of torque. Such a cool car that I look forward to continuing to drive and experiment with.

Beautiful and brilliant work! Just a tip on decals, always trim the decals nice and close. Also, I like to split decals around and mold or door spacings. Makes for a more realistic decal. Also, finely scuffing up the real tail lights on the outside and adding a bit of wash makes for good realism. However, as is, this is awesome! Everyone needs to share this and spread the word to make your business grow! :)

Dude you did an amazing job. She looks beautiful. The handling looks good. The turning radius is very tight. You can tell you couldn't open her up. You didn't have room enough. It's ok. She looks very quick. I bet she's fast. I think it would do well at drifting also. Keep up the good work. What you do is different. I like it. Good example of standing out in a good positive way. Good job.

When you put windows in, you should consider “tinting” them either by painting them on the inside or even actual window tint you can purchase from your local auto store. It will add to the sleekness and reality of the car.

That's a great idea. I've done that with larger 1/10 scale bodies but never on a 1/25 scale car. I'll give it a try sometime.

Glad you added those exhaust pipes. They really complete the car. Only thing that I wasn't a huge fan of was that LED status light that was visible at certain angles. I know it's a necessary evil it just sort of detracted from the overall scale of it. Loved the design and color choices overall though.

I find acrylics to be the most difficult to paint on smooth. There are airbrush "flow improvers" that can be added so that the orange peel is minimized.

I've never used an airbrush, but ive painted all my life. My orange peel advice is very very light coats and gradually thicken up, the 1st coat is almost redundantly light but its so the rest starts to stick more evenly. each coat after words again very lightly will thicken and darken. You'll forget what orange peel is, and always give extra time to cure so you wont get chips. I would think you would know this but you said orange peel was giving you issues. your models rock and I cant solder to save my life! Oh and the custom headliner is badass and an awesome idea!

For acrylics, I've found that bump pressure up a bit (25-30psi) instead of 15-20 psi - and use 0.4mm instead of 0.2mm normally used for the lacquers.

Cool. I had a black, 1/5 scale mid 80s Z-28 back when I was a kid. It was huge and very detailed! That would be awesome to make into an RC, it was so big it even had a key and every gauge was legible.

I'm not sure about acrylics. But I paint cars for a living. Hardened urathane paints and will hold up much better to real use like an rc car gets than anything unhardened Clear especially. And clear coat get a light tack coat at first but needs less dry time between coats and wet deep second and third coats. On real cars the clear tends to look best when it's right on the edge of thick enough to run. These videos are very fun. I'm planning my own rc 1/25 build.

Love the build, truly inspiring. I always wondered if i could make such a small scale model an rc, just to find out today its been done and theres a community. I made the same model kit but its just a model lol, i might buy another just to make it an rc. These 3rd gens are my favorite i own a 84 z/28 1:1 scale. Your attention to detail is spot on, for a second i thought you were going to forget the black line on the tail light, but you didnt As for the orange peel, Try the compound with a buffing pad dremmel has a small one in some kits. just pace it, dont stay in one spot, and careful with corners to avoid peeling the paint. Black paint is the hardest to polish but if you do it right nothing compares, trust me im a autobody tech.

it would be cool if they made models that can easily become RC cars, call them some kind of RC kit car that allows you to assemble with ease and paint it to your liking. Then you will not have to sand and cut everything to fit, someone could make millions off this idea.

If you use a c-channel programmer and programming software,you could take your skills to the next level.Carefully drill out all of the dash board levers and knobs and install fiber optics,and replace the speedometers with clear plastic stock with a waterside decal, install a bluetooth stereo system,and make the doors open with a functioning overhead interior light,functioning red doorlights,and this converted 1:25 scale plastic model car of the 1986 Camaro Z28 by AMT would be a show stopper;and no doubt in my mind would win both best in show and 1st place at the IPMS model show.

Model lacquer paints have some of the strongest adhesion properties. I doubt you’d have chopping issues with those paints

Fantastic build. You got all the exterior details correct. I am currently building this same kit (non rc), and am painting the exterior in charcoal with gold trim, an extremely rare color combo for the '83-'84 Z28. You gave me some great ideas for extra detail on the interior. Many thanks.

That's scale orange peel from a repaint in the early 90's after the owner crashed it while doing a line of blow... Haha, great looking car! I always have a soft spot for these Camaros.

If you can’t move the front undercarriage weights much higher, consider making a faux front air dam. To my knowledge many of the 80s Camaros had these under the front end to vent cool air to the motor.

That's a good idea. I experimented a bit with adding an air dam to hide the weights but I thought it just stuck out too much and didn't quite look right.

the paint is quite unique, this is something that would be quite normal for a Pontiac Firebird.. it's not so common on the Camaro, but I do have to say I quite like it, the rims also would more closely represent firebird rims instead of Camaro ones further enhancing that look

nice job bro, but you have to wash the body really well with soap and warm water to get a better paint finish , but in all man thats one hell of a job. turned out good, you can 3d print a front air damn for the front of the bumper , all camaros had them

@ Maximum RPM The Night Rider car Kitt as it was called is based off of a 1983 Pontiac Firebird.The Pontiac Firebird and Chevrolet Camaro Z26/28 of the 80's were very similar/identical in body design.Round 2 models has re-released the 1:25 scale kit of Kitt under the kit brands AMT,MPC,and Polarlights a few years ago.Revell has released a well detailed kit of the Night Rider car as well;all kit brands mentioned above of the same car are all about ~$30.00 MSRP.If the night Rider car were to be released by other kit manufacturers such as Tamiya,Aoshima,Meng,Fujimi, Italeri,they would all come with a pre-wired distributor set,an ac/heater set,resin,vinyl,and photoetched metal parts the American kit manufacturers don't include in their kits of the Night Rider car because they are sold separately as after market parts sets.The foreign kit manufacturers are $30.00-$60.00 more expensive than the kits offered by the American kit manufacturers because the parts that are sold on the after market for the American kit manufacturers;are included in the foreign imported kits.For realism and better accuracy, and to win first place and best in show at the IPMS model show,the imported kits are the way to go if you are willing to pay $30.00 more.

Hey just a quick question about the motor, from what it appears the way you wired up the motor it can only turn on or off especially since it looks like it’s a dc motor, am I right about it being only able to turn on or off? Or is that esc able to get it to move at different speeds? Could you explain that a little? I’m trying to do one of these with a Miata kit and I don’t know super much about electronics and all the brushed esc compatible motors I’ve found are really big and I wanted to have a smaller one like you since it’s a 1/24 scale model

Mask the front weights with the Camaro front airdam. Should cover the weights and still keep the scale look.

You could make the wires look like the exhaust pipes and then finish them with the tail section you have printed. As for the lead I would have fitted more smaller pieces in gaps under the hood, sure it's cramped but seems like you can fit much more in there. Any way great build and I envy the patience;)

Maybe for next model for head lights instead of silver paint better to use an alluminum duct tape? it much more reflective and mirror'like ) Plus would be good to cover on wheels the nuts with 3d printed caps
