Me too. You are the only model builder (except Plastimo) I’ve stuck with on you tube - love how you use Rustoleum paints and subtle changes to the builds. Thanks!
Have one coming in the mail today. All because of this video! I love watching your videos, you show what comes in the box and mention info about the parts and construction very well. Not the first round 2 that I purchased because of your videos! Thanks!🇺🇸
I was waiting on the review/build on this one. I really like the station wagon. Such a cool build. I’ll have my kit in next week. You’re a good salesman on these kits. Thanks.
Back in the early 70's my cousin built a ski boat and he bought one of those Chevy station wagons to haul it around with. It was cool and it was almost the same color green as your review model. It was sandy on the inside and always loaded with water ski's, life preservers and the big ice chest full of liquid refreshment. It had a 327 and hauled that boat like nothing was there. He always had the outside shining though as it looked good with chrome rims and he painted his boat trailer to match the Chevy. Great review, brings back fond memories.
I built this from the RC-2 era issue. The spring-metal clip for the hood was missing then, too...they had that same feature for the '65 GTO. I used the stock wheels, but added a set of older redline Firestones....I do wish they'd retool/update that kit, but it still builds up nice.
I too received a 1965 Chevy Malibu station wagon from my mother in-law when we got married. Only it was in white complete with dog dish hub caps and black wall recap tires. I don't have the car or the wife any more, although as I recall the car lasted longer than the wife did.
This is awesome. You did it such a way that I thought it was the actual vehicle at the end of the video. The only "hint" you get that it is not an actual car, is the shifter since it is way too thick. Wow, what a great job you did.
P.S. a 3-IN-1 kit with EXTRAS for just over $25? ! Yup! Oh, and the color choice was spot on for the build. Thanks again (Oh, and it's my Birthday today, and I'm buying this kit as my present!!!)
Love your approach to modelling just get in and build it. You are an example of doing this hobby for yourself and not someone else and now I am heading to the shed to find a f1 car I started 15 years ago. Oh and that was a beautiful colour choice going with the green.
lm from Australia one of my scribers from The States just posted me this kit because it looks just like a 1969 Holden Wagon l drive here.. so looking forward to building it cheers
Chris this was a wonderful review of this kit. I try to watch every review you do. The story you tell along with the build is fantastic. Keep up the AWESOME work. Take care, Don.
Mom-Mobile. Everybody hated being seen in it with MOM. But nobody wanted to miss it when she drove off! Dang Chris, this is a fine example of daily driver stuff. I dig the story that "goes with" the build. It helps define the details and even the colors. Nice work sir. And you make very challenging tasks easy as you pass along the tips. Thanks for sharing...
I saw the movie, GREASE'' in the theater, when It came out in 78'... I was 10. Fascinated by cars then.. In the early 80's, I worked my first job as a dish washer on Saturday afternoons, and Sunday mornings after Church'... Had some money! So, I purchased a 1946 Ford Convertable, and a 1957 Chevy models.. They were $5.00 then! And I bashed them together, and made 'Grease Lightning'! Frenched and chopped' the front fenders, chopped up the 57'.. And glued and blended the rear fenders in.. And used Automotive Bondo' cause there was no access to hobby putty for me at that time.. I was 14... Looked Great! Fire Engine Red! No clear hood though... To this day,.. I still haven't seen any Model Company make 'Grease Lightning'..! Sorry, watching this brought back some memories.. Great work!
Love the fact that the posts are still inside the body so you could actually use screws to hold the body and chassis together the way the original kit was made.
Another splendid build-up ! Now , I'd be remiss if I'd failed to mention that *California* vehicles *do* *rust* ! Especially vehicles near the beach (all of that salty air and moisture) . I've lived here in southern Cali my entire 50 years , so I can attest to vehicles being only 3-5 years old and rust forming around the windshield , backlite , sunroof , tailgate , fuel filler , etc. , etc. --- they rust from the top-down . I'm not telling you that in an attempt to bust your chops ; I just wanted to dispel the old wives' tale regarding rust and California vehicles . Keep up the great , fun work , Chris !
Super grocery go getter there Chris she turned out excellent and love how you add lib the stories behind the builds also super love the Bluegrass music!!
Every model needs a story, and boy does this one have one! Mom's wagon is now a surfers chick magnet - made me laugh with this one. Great build and finish, looks amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Man, what can I say dude? LOVE the music you put on during the paint process, AGAIN! The colors you used were absolutely perfect for this build. I'm thinking of painting mine a "Lime-Green" with the wood siding. Wow you gave me SO many ideas for mine, thank you by the way! Looking forward to the next video, see you there....
I love that kit so much I bought 2 to start with and I will get 2 more next month to complete the 4 versions I have in mind. You know, I think I saw that wagon at Woodstock with my older brother, lol great video and build!
Wow Chris! I haven't even watched the video yet but I saw the final build when it popped up on my feed. I LOVE IT!! Great color. Now to watch the build.
I'd buy this kit just for the boards, I just finished the AMT 34 Ford pick-up as a Tiki surf truck, I would love to build this wagon to go with it. Nice build, love the look. Nothing wrong with these older kits they just need some extra love. Surfs Up Dude!!
I really appreciate your build videos. Using a mix of "model specific" materials and what you can find at local Craft and Dollar stores. I'm going to go get me some Rust- Oleum and start that 1/48 Apollo model I just received! ( You motivated me with that build). Thanks
Yeah the weather can't make up it's mind here. Maybe I'll see you around town! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Another Fantastic build!! I will be getting a copy! This one may actually be my favorite one you've built!...maybe....all your builds are fantastical!!!
I love me some wagons!!! Too bad it doesn't have the rear hide away seats like other wagons had! I would love to see that in a model!!! Auto manufacturer aught to repop old beautiful wagons! Who wouldn't rush to the dealership to buy one! And I don't mean a modern interpretation I mean the exact duplicate of the old one!!!!
As an added detail, the base of the roof rack was usually a suction cup.... so the round portion of the roof rack base should be flat black! As me how I know!!
I remember building that wagon for the first time in 1974, built it a few times since, but no longer have them, I wish they would retool the '64 Chevelle
Another awesome job! And an inspiring build! The story too was amazing! Speaking of wagons, it would really be great if they brought back the 64 chevelle wagon. That kit even included a 230 inline six!
Chris, another outstanding job. Always love the backstory. After I watched the video I had to listen to the Ventures and the Surfaris. Just want to thank you again for the work you put into your builds and videos. Its been over ten years since I done a kit. I ordered Revell Germany's 747-8 Cargolux in 144th scale. Thank you for the inspiration I needed to get back into the hobby. If its okay I will have some questions and a little advice on the build. Thanks again for the inspiration and God bless. Have a great week.
Nice Build, I going to build one bone stock make up Window price Sheets. Then build it totaled out, new Mother pick's up new Wagon and pulled out of the driveway and POW CRASH BANG. Car gets Totaled She is o.k. thank God.
damn your popular...i can see why...i just watched at least 7 of your clips in a row. This one is the best so far ( the Pinto was dope too ). Me, being from a so cal surf area, really enjoyed the story of the cars provenance. Great look... you killed it with the stickers and the surf boards were equally impressive. Worn in cars are my favorite. I'm currently working on a 1/25 scale AMT Crew Chief body for a 1/24 scale crawler r.c. I will definitely be borrowing some of your techniques. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Excellent build, as others have said. Like the sandy interior, and the back story as well. When I build a kit I usually have some story or picture of who would own it, but not as elaborate as yours! The engine assembly to chassis is on step 3 "Chassis" #1 "Locate assembled engine" Also, does Super Clean do anything to the plastic? For 30+ years I've used brake fluid, with heat on stubborn paints. However, it crazes some plastic if left too long.
This is a beautiful kit. A wonderful subject. A very fun video. Love the colors. I collect surf theme kits & already had purchased this kit. Nice to see this review. You did an awesome job.
I know that this is an old build, but you should have gone with the " cheesy " wooden appliques on the sides, because, while mom's quite sensible, this was the 60's after all!!! Nice build!!!
Hey Chris i just had to have me one so i went and got me one i remember as a kid my mom and dads landlord had a chevelle wagon am thinking the landlords might have been a later 60s model his was alight blue with wood gran on the sids and blue interior was a sweet ride as i remembed
Pretty cool how you imagined a back story, even had the years included. Would love to see a video showing your model collection. Another wonderful build.
cool kitt and video nice color and better than yellow thats for sure....im doin a couple of rebuilds my self that somebody painted yellow yrs ago......not a fan of yellow
Cool storyline for a good looking model. I would love to see you get a few of each of the 2/3 in 1 kits and see how you build each variation. I did a 65 riviera for my wifes boss. Stock and matched to his car. But it came with so many options I am tempted to do it again with more of the extras.
That's a nice build, inventing a background story really brings it to life. Great to see Round 2 put new parts in although shame it was apparently at the expense of the drag strip crew / ambulance parts in the previous issues. Couldn't tell if those optional mag wheels are the Cragars from previous issues.
awesome looking 👌build as always. another one to be proud of. fantastic job. keep up the good work. till next time. have a bless day. thanks for sharing. Mike.
