My brother purchased a new '68 W-30, I bought a used '70 W-30, in 1977. The '70 455, was a beast! I drove it to the track 3 days a week, to school and work every day. It ran low 13's @ 106 MPH, through the mufflers, even with 75000 miles on the engine. All stock with a set of Hooker headers. It weighed in at 3720, with me in it. Best run was 12.98 @ 107 MPH. Great cars.
Hey Chris! I bought this kit at Hobby Lobby! I didn't Have it too long before someone broke into my house and stole it! I had to order a new one from Hobby link
Great Job, although, the W-30 decal is supposed to go under the 442 badge, and the 455 big block engine is a metallic blue, only the 350 Rocket engines were gold....I'm an Olds guy...Love your channel!!
beautiful build, bashed that one with revell monograms convertible 442, between them both built a gorgeous car, have a second, ( didnt ever like the 68 bodystyle but this one is very nice and i might build this one itself
7.30 mins into this and you are stunning this kit up to something wonderful......beautiful engine....your best yet....the interior looks excellent......finished job.....wow..your best car to date...you went up another level.....nice,nice,nice.....well done brother....
I'm an avid modeler and I just started watching your videos. Very well done, love everything I've watched. You've inspired me to build even more. I used to build a lot when I was a kid through my teenage years, then I really haven't done much for the last 20 years. Then 2 years ago my Mom bought a new Corvette Z51 (real one). Shortly after she bought it I was browsing through Corvette ideas for a gift for her and I found Revell makes a model kit of the current gen Corvette. I bought it and built it for her for a Christmas present. I went as far as going to the Chevy dealer and ordering a can of genuine GM touch up spray in the correct Corvette Sebring Silver Metallic paint code of her car and carefully cutting the roof off for the removable roof panel (the body plastic cast was molded in red with a solid roof). I realized I loved modeling as much if not more so than I did when I was a kid, partly because I'm so much better at the details and making a neat and clean build (when I was younger I was a bit sloppy with the glue and paint lol). Since I built that I've built a few more and love it. Watching your videos has made me even more enthusiastic...... I've compiled a pretty long list of kits I'm looking forward to and can't wait to buy since I started watching your videos! Thanks again!
This is such a great kit. Great build as usual, Chris! And thank you, thank you for correctly referring to this car as a four-four-two and not a four-forty-two! Now, as to that gray body color......:):) Build on!!
Nothing specific. You just paint the block color on, then pick out the belts, and other details with a small brush. It's all done by hand with craft paints.
AWESOME job!😎👍i did one of those way back in mid 80s! Love that car! One of my favorite, i still have it, i painted mine black with the gold accent and gold wheels inserts. It came out looking great. Nice job.
I always thought that the 442 always had that 455 big block. Must be the later years. I love that w30 body style. My uncle had a Hurst version. Was really nice.
very cool I had a friend (RIP) that had one . resent when bought a model from Autoworld store they sent me a sticker of the box art of your model ,and a large MPC sticker
In kit form, it is the same engine. All external dimensions and features are identical for all Olds big block engines, 400, 425 & 455. Also, All small block Olds engines share the same external features and dimensions260, 307, 330, 350, 403. Further, All Olds engines small block and big block share the same exterior features and the dimensions are only slightly different from big block to small block. The big block is 1 inch wider at the intake manifold and 1 inch taller from the crank centerline to intake mounting surface than the small block, that equals 1 mm in 1/25 scale.
Nice work but you should research the REAL cars a bit. Common on the 69 4-4-2 w30 were red front wheel wells that looked really trick! Why a non stock body color??? Great kit!
The cool thing about making a model is that we can make it any way we desire. This idea that a model must be a perfect replica of the real car and the criticism of those who have fun and make a model the way they want to is what is killing this hobby. If you desire perfect factory example models, this will not be the channel for you. The followers of this channel like FUN model reviews that show how the kit goes together and if there are any issues. No one here expects perfection or for my models to be the prime example of how to paint it in factory expert details and I've never claimed they are either.
Nice Job! I love this kit. Sure it's not new, it's not the best, but I have always loved it. One question, did you paint the front inner wheel wells red like they were on the real W-30's? I'm an Olds fanatic but I have to admit leaving them semigloss black on a couple of builds of this kit. I have always thought about building some inner fenders for this kit because I think the wheel wells painted red show off the missing inner fender detail.
Great job once again. Round2 did good on the quality of it's tires, but calling a tire with Good Year thread a Firestone Wide Oval is odd. I know, I have 1:1 scale Wide Ovals on my Galaxie. AMT has the real deal Wide Oval, what makes it even more odd.
Good video! I have a question I have built that amt oldsmobile cutlass supreme kit before and what I remember that my kit had from steering, the front wheels can move left to right and I didn't see that in your build kit ! Did it hade it in you just glue them straight? Or that new repop kit don't have position front wheels anymore? Thanks great video God bless
Hurst editions had a 455. Regular W-30s had the 400. This info is backed up by every source I can find. www.hemmings.com/blog/article/1969-oldsmobile-4-4-2-2/
Thanks Danny! This was about 9 hours of actual work over two days. I painted the body right away first day and then let it sit till near the end of all the other building and painting.
How did you get your hands on that kit when round 2 just air today saying that they are realizing that kit for April but made this video March 14 more less ! Do you have a deal with round 2 to get the kits before it hits the stores? Anyways love you videos always watch them and thanks
