Long time watcher, first time commenter :-) Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I avoided AMT pedals for a long time due to bad reviews, but I regret that now. Their pedals are incredibly sturdy and well-built, lasting for years without a hitch. I recently used their TH1 (Tube Hall) in a video, and it stood out immediately. Your demo has inspired me to hunt for more AMT products.

I consider this series of pedals a hidden gem. They sound so good, and that they have a cab sim you can connect straight in to a PA without it sounding shit like all other drive pedals is amazing. This pedal is a very very good. Clean & drive channel, with a good cab sim. 3 in 1 10/10

I recently discovered these AMT pedals. I am absolutely sold. I am getting one in 2021, for sure, after I purchase some hardware upgrades for my guitar, that pedal is next

@@HanjoSynth How do you like it so far? Is it really tube like sound and feel? It sounds a bit fizzy here.
@HanjoSynth
@HanjoSynth 3 года назад
@@Javier-qk7ms I would not say its sounds like a tube amp but it has character for sure, I would compare to a vintage transistor feel. I have the AMT CAB simulator that adds to the signal a kind of EQ, really nice combo.

I currently own 4 AMT’s, have owned 6. Wish I still had the B2. For $1000 you can have 10 different awesome amp tones. I get compliments galore on my tone every single time I play out.

In Preamp mode the footswitch switches between a Clean Channel (Fenderish) and the Drive Channel (whatever the pedal is modelled on, in this case a hot Marshall). Only in Drive Out mode does the pedal become a *standard* distortion box where the footswitch acts as you would expect by bypassing the pedal straight to the amp. More info at the link above in the Description block. Cheers and thanks for the kind words. :)

Bought this pedal because of your video. It sounds great here, but even better in person. I run mine direct into my computer using an interface with a tube preamp, and my buddy with a real JCM800 tried it. We compared clips of the direct tone to a mic'd up JCM800. The tones were damn close. We both loved it. He was able to get "his sound" as quickly as setting the eq and gain right.

I also run it into the effects loop of a Fender Princeton and it sounds amazing. I've ran it into the effects loop of my Fender M80 head (300 watt solid state, great clean tone though) going through a 4X12 Fender cabinet with the tube preamp, and my buddy with the JCM800 complimented it saying it sounded damn close to his amp. He loved it.

Some little difference in playing feel exists, but sounds really close to 800. I've 1982 JCM800 2204 also ;)

Great video. For anyone reading, I have just bought a P2 (5150 type), and one fun configuration that I really enjoy the tone of is preamp out into the input of my 'clean(ish)' Mesa Dual Recto Orange channel. I know technically that is an 'input' so you should use the drive out, but the preamp out just sounds so fantastic I wired it that way for now. Worth trying anyway.

Hey Brett, You should do a side by side comparison with the Wampler Plextortion. Ive heard that people consider that pedal to be the best Marshall in a box pedal. This pedal sounds damn good too though.

All of these pedals sound incredible going through your fender amps. Your playing also really helps a lot! I'm definitely going to pick one of these up for myself. I'm just having a difficult time choosing which one! I think I'm leaning toward the R2, because I love that Mesa Boogie drive!

Brett do you like more AMT M2 or Tech 21 Sansamp Fly Rig for real Marshall/Plexi sound direct in sound card?

Awesome thanks for finishing reviewing all these, most proper AMT reviews on RU-vid. Any chance they'll send you the Stonehead for a review ? aka daddy of all legends?

Or vs wampler pinnacle or Carl Martin plexi tone, however I suspect that the drive out may not be amt's strongest point when compared to it's alternatives, however they hold their own in versatility :)

Very disappointed about the cab sim output (too fizzy), but the Marshall-style sound is there, for sure. I think with a proper IR-based cab sim it would sound great.

These AMT pedals sound amazing, wich would you advice between the M2 and the B2 keeping as reference latest Steve Lukather's tone (I know Steve plays Bogner now, but it might not be that obvious to go for the B2 only because it says it's a Bogner inspired pedal) What's your honest opinion???

Hey Man, Epic tone as always! I'm wondering, could you use the Sim. Cab output to connect directly to, say, the mixer of a venue? and like, replacing my whole amp/cab setup :P It would be pretty badass to arrive only with that thing and a couple of cables :D

Very nice playing and sound! For playing 70s-80s hard rock (GNR-Aerosmith etc.), BUT ALSO willing to find a sound close to 80s melodic hard rock (Danger Danger, Winger etc.), would you suggest AMT M2 or Boss Power Stack ST-2 to be used as "preamp like" base? (I already have an MXR 77 custom badass overdrive that can be used in the clean channel for rythm, as well as a boost pedal when using my MG30 Marshall overdrive channel. I also have some effect pedals required for the 80s sound). Thanks everyone!

Hi Brett, like always, a great and entertaining review. Just asking, if I use it in preamp mode (in this case you plug it to effects return), does the bypass mode reacts like a clean channel of the modeled amps or just straight bypass with no affected sounds ? Greetings from Indonesia !!!

What does the little white button and the clean level knob do? When the unit is in clean mode, do the tone controls work?
@OrkhanJulfa

This button boosts clean's mid. And clean level is a level control for clean channel.

Sounds good, but I think I can tell it is a fuzz pedal and not a tube preamp...there is just a bit more fuzz than a tube pre has
@JetUzer
@JetUzer 9 лет назад
Brad Parker it's not tube
@bradmodd7856
@bradmodd7856 9 лет назад
yes it is a fuzz pedal doing a tidy job of sounding like a tube pre. For metal and some rock styles, the solid state gear is ok, sometimes better than tube, but when you want to hear the tubes doing that tube thing, transistors won't do that. I've spent money on Tech21 gear..I know it doesn't sound the same as tube gear, even when used with a tube power section.

Can this pedal output the clean sound and the drive sound at the same time?
@snakey8095
@snakey8095 6 лет назад
unfortunately not. If you really want (and have the money) to do it, you probably need a ABY selector pedal (Like the EHX switchblade plus) or a splitter pedal (like the JHS Buffered splitter), finally the AMT F1 for the clean tone (Which is the fender amp-sim pedal with the same circuit of this pedal's clean channel)

I just bought this pedal, but I was kind a dissapointed about gain, for me its too low, and doesn't sound like this video. If you had use a boost, or active pickups was better if let us know... I try also 12 V, but the situation doesn't change, I wish too have moore bite, probably I should buy the ENGL sim version....
@OrkhanJulfa
@OrkhanJulfa 6 лет назад
I have a E2. It has tons of gain but too smooth attack and boomy lows. Reducing lows just make it sound very flat and lifeless as my guitar is very bassy by itself. It needs booster like tube screamer or more bright pickups. Thinking about M2 now.
@TheAlinutau
@TheAlinutau 6 лет назад
I don`t recomand you... M2 doesn`t have pickup brightness, you also need a screamer, distortion or treble boost in front too push it into creammy od that you need. The M2 have tons of midrange, and you must cut off the mid button.
@OrkhanJulfa
@OrkhanJulfa 6 лет назад
But according to all demo videos M2 is noticeable brighter than E2 even has less gain. I think you should try P2. It has tons of gain but more tighter than E2.
