Were you able to get in the cabin in elec chair? Was it tight trying to maneuver into the room? Could you get around train in chair or stay in room for duration of trip?

I think the problem is she took this room, possibly away from a passenger, that really needed it.

@@rrt08 I'm glad that they put this out there showing a disabled person can travel by train. Amtrak should reserve those rooms for the disabled only.

@@rrt08 No I think they just got permsision to video it from the sleeping car attendent but they did not stay in it.

Make sure the accommodations are similar to this… I traveled from Boston to Louisiana once and the single sleeper was out of the 1940’s! I found the conductor and showed him the brochure that was similar to this and he told me what did I expect? I got my money back….and a free ride.✌🏾

I used to go greyhound until a friend took me on a train Best thing ever. I could walk around..more then one bathroom..reclyning chairs My last bus was a 12 hr drive and i did 21 hrs due to no bus drivers and wanting to work babies screaming and dirty and all crowded in tight seating Now 4 more hrs but a hundred dollars. + less and i can walk around

This is the handicap accommodations. But they do have "family" rooms also.

Right don’t abuse it only buy if it’s not bought before departure than up for grabs. Someone who was hit by car while crossing street pregnant December 13th 2015 and have permanent back issues and my daughter has cerebral palsy from birth injury same daughter I was hit by car with we need these rooms. But im FAIR. If it ain’t sold closer to departure date and it’s up for grabs than by all means take it !! Edit to say I came up with good idea Amtrak should control that and only release these rooms when close to date and not sold. That you have to call in for these only can’t like sneak by online without verifying and than release them when it’s like two weeks out from departure. I know there’s a way they can do that in system. That’ll keep it fair.

I am wheelchair user so I used the bottom bed. My husband is claustrophobic and did not like the top bunk so he slept on the floor. Luckily we brought a few blankets from home

The netting is really good for the top bunk, from what I understand. This is so necessary so that the top bunk passenger doesn't fall off the bed while sleeping!

We are hoping to do one. They are hard to find this summer as Amtrak is pretty booked up. If we can find one we will do it though!

If you are taking the california zephyr the accessible room goes from one side of train to other its a big room but has bunk beds on one side that sit up into chairs facing each other during day the top bunk has a ladder no room from ceiling to bed not good for older folks like me bathroom on otherside with curtain aroundl it the shower is in hallway now i love the accessible room on the lakeshore limited room is big the beds one on bottom one on top plenty of head room on top bunk much bigger the bathroom is big with shower in it also has door you can close during day the bottom bed turns into a big couch from one side to other side

Those were my thoughts exactly. I’m in a wheelchair myself.

You can’t book these rooms without calling Amtrak and requesting an accessible room, so it’s not really possible for people to book them online just trying to get an upgraded size room.

I rarely have trouble with hotels and asked the AmTrak agent about the availability of rooms that are wheelchair accessible and she indicated it would be very rare if I planned accordingly not to be able to get booked. Sadly many that are wheelchair bound give up, become disgruntled, angry at the world and miss out on a lot of life. However, you want to talk about something that really makes me mad is parking. That’s a whole other subject and total disrespect for those truly handicap vs lazy.

@@DP-awesomeness anything is possible. Thangs that supposedly not possible are done every day. For instance, there are many people that have illegal placards and use them for things like this. Hard to fathom but very true. And very sad.

Oh go to hell. This is the size all the rooms should be. You think that just because a person is abled bodied, we want to slither into broom closet sized spaces? No! These bigger rooms will be booked by all because the standard rooms are too small for anyone. Just like bathroom stalls are too small for everyone.

Thank you so much! Well, there is a "Bedroom Suite", which is two bedroom rooms put together with a connecting door. That is the biggest you could get on Amtrak.

I had always wanted to travel by train also. Got the opportunity the other year. It was nothing like I had imagined. I wasn't prepared for such a bumpy, shaky, jolting ride. It was a short journey but it felt like the longest ride in the world.

You can sit on the toilet and read.

That's nice. BUT it's called 'accessible' for a reason. People who NEED accessible rooms CANNOT use the other rooms. Would you use a parking space with the wheelchair symbol on it? No, you wouldn't.

I certainly hope you aren't booking an accessible bedroom just because you have kids. There is usually only a few per train which means every time you do that someone like me literally can't travel. I have 7 kids and get it that travel with kids is hard but you have other options and people like me do not. So please don't do this.

The NYC ndn, the "Family Rooms", which are only on the Superliners, do not have showers in them. Perhaps you should edit your comment to explain what you actually had. And by making your comment related to Superliners on a video about Viewliners, you are just being confusing.

I suggested that you might edit your comment to clarify that, so newbies don't get confused. But as for whether "Family Bedrooms" have showers in them, I will retort that I have been in many Viewliner abd Superliner sleeper cars, and only the Superliners had the Family Bedrooms in them, and none oc those had en suite showers, toilets or sinks; their occupants need to go down the aisle to use the common restrooms and shower. If you can cite some specific version of the cars that are different from the majority, say so. My guess is that you are confusing the standard full size bedrooms (which DO have en suite shower & restroom) with Family Bedrooms. There are specific correct names for all of the types of sleeper car rooms.

@@Adumzzinthehouse , in all of my AMTRAK sleeper car travels, only the Superliner cars had Family Bedrooms (did you mean to say the standard Bedroom?). And in those Superliner Family Bedrooms, their occupants need to go down the aisle to use the common restrooms and shower. I suspect that you are confusing the names of the different kinds of rooms.
