East Glacier is also home to a hotel built by the Great Northern Railroad. Fittingly, it’s called the Glacier Park Lodge, and was the grand hotel advertised by the railroad for passengers traveling from Chicago and points east to stay in and enjoy the park. It’s still as grand now as it was then

I am hoping things get back to normal this year, so I can go from Seattle to Chicago! A big music festival keeps being delayed and when things are good again, this train seems a great, cozy way to make my way there. :)

Really enjoyed this video AND the one you did regarding the Sunset Limited (half the Texas Eagle route). Thanks for the time and detail you put into these. Informative and interesting. I've hopped onto The Empire Builder in Bingen for the ride to NYC via Chicago, of course. Dunnit twice. The train is so long compared to the station that it loads in two (or three) stages, with the conductor sternly warning sleeper passengers to "Wait! Don't board yet!" For someone who had never ridden a long-distance route before, it's unnerving to watch the transient passengers board and see the coaches begin moving eastward without you! But it did eventually re-stop and open the doors for me to join the fun. Depending upon which time of year you ride, the undulating shadows cast at sundown along the south bank of The Columbia River are breathtaking!

My wife and I took the Empire Builder to Essex and stayed at the Inn. We had a wonderful time. It's a great trip. It was also interesting as it was the last train westbound to make it through ahead of the flooding. We waited in Havre for several hours surround by freight trains while they reballasted the tracks and I have startling pictures taken out of the back of the train with only tracks showing as the water crept up from the flooding. We had to fly back out of Whitefish, but we enjoyed every minute of the trip.

Havre is the station closest to the train derailment of September 25, 2021 that killed (at least) 3 people. It was actually closer to the town of Joplin which is a little west of Havre.

Very good information, although the info on 'famous' people should be used for more info on each station. My wife and I have some mobility issues and we'd like to see more station information on the larger stations such as King St (Seatlle), Spokane, St Paul, etc. Such info as the layout of the station, are luggage carts available, what is the walking distance from ticketing to the actual train, etc. Thanks again for the info you did provide.

Thank you for all your research, may I ask in your opinion out of Seattle to Chicago or the Portland to Chicago route, which one is the more beautiful and sceneric route, thank you again.
@T1DWanderer
@T1DWanderer 4 года назад
Of course they're only different for the first few hours, and at least half of those hours are after dark. I have only taken the Seattle version though; from my research I would guess that the Portland version might be more scenic, with the river and bridges and stuff. Maybe someone else has done both and can answer?

I have always been surprised that the Empire Builder doesn't have a stop in Watertown WI. That city has about 25,000 in population way big enough for stop. It's home to the octagon house which is known for the first kindergarten. It's also home to Berres Brothers Coffee. Anyways great viedo are you going to do this for other Amtrak routes?
