In 2022, Amtrak debuted its newest livery for its railroad equipment. Dubbed Phase VII, this is the 7th nation wide paint scheme in the company's history. Two years later, in January of 2024, Amtrak began to apply the livery to all P42DC locomotive repaints as the locomotives come due for new paint. Amtrak says that as many as 12 P42s will be repainted by the end of the year. On May 11th, 2024, I filmed the 4th P42 locomotive to be painted in Phase VII, number 138. I followed the locomotive through Oregon and Washington as it pulled the northbound Coast Starlight. This was the first time one of the repainted Phase VII P42 locomotives ran on the Northbound Coast Starlight. In this video, we will follow the train from Klamath Falls, Oregon to Nisqually, Washington as it passes through some beautiful Pacific Northwest scenery.
