Amtrak Pacific Surfliner 20th Anniversary Special 

It’s pretty cool how he puts all the heritage locomotives in their paint scheme order and then the veterans locomotive

I used to ride the San Diegan in the Santa Fe days when I served in the U.S. Navy. In the early 1960s the U.S. Mail was still being carried on rail passenger services, so as a sailor I could get back to my ship in San Diego from Santa Ana in time for Muster using the 2 AM or 4 AM trains. Marines at the El Toro Air Station would get off at a flag stop if the conductor was being kind, and would wake them up. Sometimes they had to hitchhike back from San Juan Capistrano. Lucky for me the end in San Diego would mean being wakened for sure. Amtrak has no need for running such empty trains, of course. But then if I would take a day time San Diegan, there might be an extra assistant conductor who would sell gum and candy bars, as there were no snack bar cars on those trains. I was told by an old conductor that at one time in the 1950s the service was sometimes just a Budd Car. Things are getting better.

And THIS, is why I love trains, the pacific surfliner got me into them when I was a little boy watching your videos with surfliners blasting through with those f59PHIs and their beautiful horns. Thank you so much for being the person that got me into this hobby, great video. Also, I think the 10th anniversary paint was my favorite

I have to say, those new Siemens Charger locos look very sharp and stylish! They lend themselves well to a modern commuter rail service.

Grew up near Solana Beach and rode the Surfliner frequently to Chatsworth, Ventura, and Goleta. Grew up watching your videos as a young kid in 2010. Can't believe you're still making high quality videos now 12 years later. The Surfliner will always be the best train in America!

It’s like I had an awakening. I thought I only loved planes but.... I think I just like transportation.

Also their service is so courteous and they have a nice lunch service on the train and it is very courteous and very friendly so if you ever ride amtrak you will love every minute of it

Happy 20th anniversary to the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner bro I miss the old train F59PHI bro that was the best train ever and I am still sad that it had turned into Metra. Hope they turn it back to Amtrak because Amtrak is more famous than any other trains and people are loving it I still miss the F59PHI the best train ever more than Metrolink Coaster and other similar locomotives to the Amtrak. Well Happy 20th Anniversary once again to Amtrak surfliner.

Mike; with the fall off or ridership due to the pandemic, the near future for Amtrak service, as it was before this crisis, really puts them in a financial pickle with or without a Federal government bailout. Your historical video documentary was fantastic and sold itself. grat stuff.

Amtrak is the best way to travel so you dont have to do any driving and their cars are so comfortable and the scenery is amazing I would.ride amtrak again if I had the chance 🤩

By 2010, all consists were reconfigured to Business Class, Cafe, Coach, Coach, Coach, Coach/Baggage. Now the consists are Business Class, Coach/Business, Cafe, Coach, Coach, Coach/Baggage

There’s actually a train track that is right next to my school and it runs surfliner trains and also freight and the occasional metrolink.
