Nice catch of the Amtrak train. Usually it's really early when Amtrak's Texas Eagle comes through here too. Thanks for working the graveyard shift to catch trains lol. Great video.
I had a friend who was a retired engineer on Southern Pacific. He said that suicides by train still haunted him. There's nothing the train crew can do to prevent it and they see the look on the person's face as they realize just what they're doing. Chester passed away a few years ago. He was a good man.
Some drivers are so traumatised they give up train driving; other do continue with a few totally unfazed. Here in the UK drivers now have to undergo mandatory counselling. The trauma does not end with train crews but staff who have to attend, thence those notifying families. In my four decades as a railwayman career I've sadly witnessed this from the cab, attended incidents and investigated many more. The hardest part was always talking to drivers and the bereaved.
Back in the early 80s I was in the hospital for Bipolar. We received news that a guy that was recently discharged for depression suicided by train. It was awful. He was a nice guy.
Wow!..thanks for working the night shift JT! Cool seeing an Amtrack..that camera was definitely good at night. And the DPU was puttin in the work on the long train! Great video son! 👍👍💪
Worth the wait! I made it 217 cars on that last train. I take it that the duck now has been named after yet another railroad (Dupps)! Looks as though you've got another adopted pet to feed now. They certainly know where to find themselves a good home!
Good Morning Jaw Tooth. This is one of the best videos I've seen so far. I think a lot of crossings should be quadruple. Maybe that would cut down the gate runners and fatalities. I hope I never see a fatality. Have a nice day🌞😊🌈
Impacts with trains are usually fatal and ultimately are distressing for all concerned (I've attended more than my fair share). The tragedy is that so many are usually avoidable. Still, loved the video and a nice change to see passenger trains being filmed. Well done - Again! 🙂
I tend to disagree with you that impacts with trains are usually fatal. I have had over 20 train / vehicle accidents and only 2 were fatal. In the early days of Operation Lifesaver our RR used train crews to do the presentations. I was in the first group of volunteers from my division. And gave presentations for several years. We had access to all the latest stats for Louisiana. If I remember correctly only 8 to 15% were fatal.
@@billmorris2613 I disagree with YOU! Trains going to and from San Diego to LA have had many pedestrians hit. They have all been fatal. However, trucks and vehicles involved are not usually fatal unless it’s a direct hit on the driver broadside.
@@Gigie2Z I did not know you were talking about just hitting a person. I can see where most of them would be fatal. In my almost 50 years in RR operations I only know of 3 incidents where a train hit a person on our division. Neither of them were me. My comment clearly states train / vehicle incidents.
I have to admit I never saw a duck eat before. They are literally vacuums! That made my day. 😀On a sad note, however, I am so sorry to hear about the Amtrak fatality...God bless his family.
Sorry to hear about the fatality. The video quality on my Samsung phone was unbelievable clear and sound was awesome. "But wait, there's more." One thing about a small train or a large one it's still a train. You put in some hours on that trip. Hats off to you Sir.
They say the best things come to those who wait JT, so I give u a lot of credit for sticking it out for that 2 mile monster. Awesome shot of Amtrak in Glendale Ohio, I rode Amtrak up through the New River, all the way to the Greenbrier back when I was young, loved it. Shame about that person getting hit by a train doesn’t sound good. Love seeing your furry friends especially the duck. Your the best JT, thanks for sharing.👍🏼
I have to say after all these years of being a subscriber to your channel this has to be one of your best.I have noticed how the sub. numbers keep going up and it shows by what you do,just a GREAT JOB JT. P.S. will you ever be taking us back to see the Shoo-Fly? Thanks again👍👍
@@FabianDiazTrainsTrucksNCars Yeah, can you believe that? A person hit by the next train right after Amtrak went through and then that same Amtrak struck a girl in a truck in Illinois. It was either Illinois or Indiana but I think it was Illinois.
Thank you for getting everything on this video. I hope you had some coffee or something warm to drink while you waited. We really appreciate what you do to bring us you great videos! Stay safe out there.
That camera was a noticeable step up in quality and framerate. 60fps is a lot smoother for moving shots/pans, etc. Thanks for getting some night trains in!
I think so too. It’s a very noticeable difference. There’s a guy in Ontario, Canada I’ve followed for a few years that has one. He’s The 4K guy. He does fires and accidents up there.
thank you for taking the time to stand out all night just so we can see some train videos. That is dedication. Also great to see an Amtrac on one of your vids. I oftern wait to see them for them on the railcam live streams
Enjoyed video. Great night scene with bright lights, sounds of nature - crickets, sleeping community. Also the waiting was worth while seeing trains even if short trains. Work going on while town sleeps. And the long train worth the wait. Animals great. Thank you
Cool nighttime video and Amtrak action! I like those double crossing gates there, that will surely help with the non railfan's running the gates! Awesome video Jawtooth! Thanks for sharing!
Great video! I still haven't made it to Glendale yet. I appreciate all that you do to bring top notch action to your viewers. I look every day to see if you have posted another video. Keep up the great work!
Great video. I used to live along the ILLINOIS CENTRAL GULF line in Monee Illinois. I loved to see the trains go by. The cool part is that the line is below grade because of the hill that Monee Illinois is on. The old steamers had trouble to climb the hill so they made " The Cut" it was awesome to stand over the tracks when the train went by. I miss living there.
Very cool! I would love to be on Main Street in Monee right over the tracks and film a train going under me. That would be cool because I could also film the fire trucks leaving the station there if they got a run . Lol. I use to be a volunteer firefighter so that is one of my interests. I like the location of the Monee Fire station.
😅nice to see the German Amtrak lokomotiv from Siemens/Vectron.and in the Dutch Flag colors Red Wihte en Blue. Rood Wit en Blauw. that is wath they like here Brian, lol. thanks for the cool video.have a nice weekend with the familie. greetz:🍐Peer.
The train vs pedestrian happened at Burns and Parkway in Hartwell. There's a long open section of track after the crossing across from Glendale street. I carried mail in that area for 9 years and every 2 years there was person killed on average. I knew a couple of them, one was a customer of mine that lived 5 houses down from the tracks. Him and his fiance were out walking their dogs one day like they normally did and while walking back to their house they crossed the tracks right as a train was coming, He decided to stop for a minute saying his leg was cramping so he lagged behind while his fiance continued to the curb with their dogs. Suddenly, right as the train was about to come he ran onto the tracks and was struck. The impact knocked him off the tracks into the grass and bushes on the other side. The line was closed for 3 hours. His fiance continues to live in that house. His fiance had absolutely no clue or saw no signs that he was suicidal. There was also a man on the side that he was knocked onto that was walking his dog that saw it happen. He called 911. He was shaken up for days afterward. I didn't see him out for about a week. He said he'd never felt so helpless seeing it happen and not being able to do anything to stop it. The other person I knew in the neighborhood was a twin. Him and his brother were homeless for about 5 years due to drugs but he cleaned up and was clean for about 2 years while his brother struggled and was in and out of jail. He had just gotten married and was proud of being sober until he slipped up. He was so disappointed that one night he just walked down the tracks until a train came and he didn't move, just walked right into it. This happened on the other side of the crossing more toward the bridge going over vine street. Suicide is a terrible thing not only to the person that commits it but to the surrounding people that are involved directly or indirectly. RIP Skip and Jerry.....
The last train had some great vintage hopper cars on it. I saw a couple of Soo Line, a CNW, a Pac-Man CN, and the Milwaukee Road. My late father-in-law spent 42 years on the Milwaukee. I really enjoy seeing the old liveries.
Great views with the signals. Never good when someone loses their life. Stay safe everyone and thx for staying up to catch that loooooong one Jawtooth!!
Have a great weekend JawTooth . All the best love your work great catch . Happy Fall season . Enjoy your coffee . Love your videos. Sincerely Andrew Macintosh.
I've been watching your videos on and off for a while. I only started watching nearly every day, with the RU-vid app on the Roku recommends your channel. Anyway, you mentioned about seeing some short trains. It's not you noticing it. The Wise World of Trains channel has been commenting about that a lot lately. He's mainly referring to trains going from Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York state, and even Pennsylvania to Chicago and back. A few of those trains he sees run through my area of NW Indiana primarily run on the Norfolk Southern lines that go through South Bend and Elkhart into Chesterton, Portage, Gary, East Chicago, Hammond, before going to Chicago. As for the Amtrak Cardinal service, that runs through NW Indiana. From Chicago, it runs along the Canadian National line to Munster Indiana, then along the CSX line (former Monon line) to make a stop in Dyer, then makes another stop in Rensselaer. Not sure if there's a stop between Rensselaer and Lafayette, but I know there's a stop in Lafayette Indiana, and a few stops before going to Indianapolis. If you ever decide to visit NW Indiana, there's a few places to see trains. In Griffith Indiana, there's the Broad Street crossing, where Canadian National owns both lines. There used to be 5 sets of railroad lines running through Griffith Indiana until 1976. Since 1981, it's been 2 sets (CN, and EJ&E, until CN bought EJ&E). Since CN now owns the former EJ&E line, few trains are sent to Chicago, as they rerouted most of their trains around Chicago, before going into Wisconsin. Most trains that have cars switched around to other trains, most of that is now done at the Kirkland Yard at the US Steel Works in Gary Indiana. There's also the Gibson Yard in Hammond Indiana to watch some trains. CSX and Norfolk Southern use that Yard, though CSX uses it more. It's run by the Indiana Harbor Railroad. Chesterton Indiana around downtown (especially west of the main downtown area) has a lot of trains running through, mostly Norfolk Southern and Canadian Pacific via trackage rights, but an occasional CSX runs through on the NS line.
Wow...what a beautiful, cool night time & early morning video! Wonderful atmosphere. Love seeing trains at night. Love the Amtrak footage...please do more! 🚅🚆I've ridden passenger trains since I was a little kid. Would always stay awake all night to look out the window, pulling into stations, & watching everything go by...magical. So sad about the casualties, though. Thanks for all of your hard work & dedication!!🙂
Great 👍 show today JT it sure was a long morning for you but it was worth it we saw the Amtrak, NS , CSX . That last long CSX had a couple of fallen flag cars a SOO and a old green BN very neat ! Do you have the original antenna that came with your scanner or did you get a upgraded version ? Keep up with your great work ! 👨✈️😊😎👍🙋🏻
Great good made video, mr Jaw Tooth. That camera 📷 of your girlfriend is a good one for filming in the night. More of this video's 👌👍 and sorry about the rain there in Glendale Ohio🌧️☔. Greet from Zandvoort the Netherlands.
Your night work is good. I have seen it before and like the extra excitement of a heavy freight coming out of the darkness into a well-lit city intersection. All quiet...a light in the darkness down the tracks...and then the scene explodes with six-axle locomotives passing in front. Though, sometimes maybe only a handful of cars and a lonely GP... Fun anyway
Remembers me when I drove to Mansfield to get a photo of the Broadway Limited using film in the 1960s. Did get e nice photo of the 20th Century at Berea with flash.
Altogether another nice video, JT. Night shots were great. Town and traffic Waking up , school busses and all. Including my DDoT. Thanks again. And: ! your animals.
Number one! My wife wants to know where the jawtooth names comes from. You forgot to reverse the video. Either that or they write signs backwards in that town.
Hey great video JT, have to agree this is one of your best to date... out all night in the rain, that's dedication. Love your commentary throughout as always. Your "What....." at the 1st short freight was priceless.... and had me laughing 😃 Have to say I also like the Amtrak "live action"
CSX Holiday Train makes my Christmas every time it comes to Wylie, TX - it’s the nearest sweetest thing! I get excited when I see CSX because that is an amazing company!
When I lived in California, I used to go to antique shops in Carlsbad & every once in awhile an Amtrak train would come through. Wow what a thrill to see that train wizz by at 70+ mph!!!!
