At Amtrak we know the future of the Northeast Corridor depends on the investments we make today, which is why we are excited to announce the upcoming arrival of the next-generation of high-speed rail. The new trainsets will replace the current Acela Express equipment and begin service in 2021.
For this project, we are pleased to be partnering with Alstom, a leading global provider of innovative systems and equipment in the railway sector. Alstom will be building these new trainsets in New York State, with 95% of the trainset’s components being made in America, and parts coming from 350 suppliers in 30 U.S. states.

Getting good train sets isn’t hard. The track infrastructure is the bigger issue here in the states. Outside the NEC and a couple other places Amtrak is at the mercy of the freight companies. So they don’t exactly have much dedicated ROW trackage of their own to run fast trains on. Even the NEC needs work, but it’s the best we got for now.

@FFred-us9tw
@FFred-us9tw 8 месяцев назад
@@omarguerra1838 I’m well aware of the Interstate system. But that’s not used for people in a rush. It’s almost 3,000 miles NYC to LA. A high speed rail line that went non stop at 300 MPH would still twice as long as a plane. And a perfectly straight line at that speed doesn’t exist anywhere in the world. It’s a fantasy.
@omarguerra1838
@omarguerra1838 8 месяцев назад
@@FFred-us9tw no no I get you. But trains have never been around straight lines. What a train has that a plane doesn’t is its versatility. A whole network connecting all of America with HSR means many stations to middle of nowhere in between cities. Small towns etc etc. at insane speeds. Meaning better than car and for certain ovation even better than plane. Of course flying from one side of the country to the other is way better but people don’t make that trip every day. I mean the interstate goes from east to west and north to south. Think about it when have you ever used the whole stretch. You probably The point is that it exist and that at any point you can use it. Why spend 300 dollars to go from Omaha to LA in 2 hours plus airport times when with HSR you could pay 120 for what 4-5 hours? In car that takes 24 hours. Plus just like the interstate Instread of using it to go from district to district in 20 minutes. I can use HSR from neighbor city to neighbor city in 20 minutes whenever I am not doing big long roadtrips. I would argue US is THE perfect size for a super awesome HSR network

Yeah let just replace all railway bridges/tunnels/viaducts every 5 years so its all new......are you f%@#*&$ kidding me.....people around the world use that kind of infrastructure that was built 50+ years ago.....cause i know this might be foreign to most modern Americans but there WAS a point in history when Americans oh I don't know 'BUILT THINGS TO LAST'!!!!! Also the concept of over engineering a bridge is a completely foreign concept to you isn't it? Why would a railway engineer ever only build a bridge/Tunnel to only handle what was currently available???? That is an incredibly stupid idea cause guess what once something only marginally faster/longer/heavier/taller came out WELP time to start over????? No railroad would pay for something with that short of a life span....railroads are all about longevity and getting long lasting value for their limited investment capital.

This train is a great advancement for America. However, to really "launch" the high-speed rail industry in America, you must expand beyond the NEC into places such as the Empire and Keystone corridors. Infrastructure is also a problem. The Northeast's infrastructure needs upgrading to allow for higher speeds out of the new Avelia Liberty trainsets. The Acela Express is the only Amtrak train with first class, but it is also the only without coach class. If the Avelia Liberty has coach class, that may increase ridership on the trainsets. Also, the old Acela Express trainsets shouldn't be retired. They could continue their lives on the Northeast Regional, Keystone and Empire lines. I really hope Amtrak lives on and modernizes America's railway. Please, don't give up, and please, make America's railway the best in the world again!
@jwbaker1561

Yeah the Acela is a train I absolutely love, but I've never ridden on. I can't justify the ticket price. I really doubt they're running the Train full all the time, so if they could at least add one coach car, they probably have massively increased ridership. But really more than anything they need to update all the rails so that the trains can actually run at their maximum speed. Acela doesn't even get to max out, so this train will certainly not. we also need to make the right to a little more efficient, I've heard that Boston actually has two or three stops just for the Acela with in one city. The Acela should be running two major stations like pain mainly, for local transport people can hop on the local Subways and such

As of today the ACELA , which is the current USA High Speed, can only do TRUE Speed on a small stretch of track .in the Northeast. It would be a Win-Win if it actually could be achieved. It's not a TGV. But TGV-derived. This new Acela is a tilting train ( -> Pendolino tech), is an EMU (the TGV has two power cars coupled to un-powered coaches), and can have coaches added or removed easily (the TGV consists in fixed trainsets, coaches can be split only at a depot)
@CoffeeOnRails

really? If it's a Pendolino derivtive it will be again two power cars with unpowered coaches. It won't, also, ever even think of reaching 220mph, that sounds like some top-class bs. I that thing even reaches commercial 300km/h that'll be already impressive.

Comparisons, however, are possible because, although we have large swathes of sparsely populated land, we also have large cities within largely urbanized regions. It's a shame that the United States doesn't have high speed rail but this development is a great start and in the region that would benefit most from it.

It's so fun to see all of the European people that comment on American train videos; I think you guys are just big egomaniacs. I'm from Spain myself and I quite understand the point of why there's no high speed trains in America and why people use the plane more than the train. First of all the US is much larger than any European country (excepting Russia) and adapting, renewing old lines or building new ones would cost billions of dollars and take a lot of time to do; even if it was to be done, it would still be a financial suicide taking in consideration that America is less densely populated than most European countries, and also cities are much further apart from each other than any place in Europe. Then we have to consider that America has a lot of different landscapes, ranging from floodplains to desserts, and it would take lots of money to maintain both the rails and the trains themselves. Also disasters like tornadoes, earthquakes, landslides, hurricanes and floods happen too so rail infrastructure would have to be repaired. And why do Americans use the plane more than the rail? Because of time; even if the train was as fast as any European high speed trains, it would still take ages to get from LA to NY or from Dallas to Chicago, because for the sake of economical sustainability it would have to stop in every mid-size town to make it profitable, while planes can go directly to their destinations without doing many or no stops in its way.

...China has a larger land mass than the Continental US. it also has just as challenging Geography as we do. Yet they are embarking on a programme to build a national network of high speed passenger and even freight rail lines, not just a few "select" corridors. To tell the truth I'd rather take say 20 - 24 hours from Seattle to Chicago on a high speed train than be wedged into that torture device known as an airline coach seat and have someone effectively sitting in my lap for several hours, be treated like crap by the cabin crew, and deal with the indignity of TSA screening as well as worrying if items from my luggage will be pilfered and have to deal with getting into the city when the train travels direct from city centre to city centre. It's not because we don't have the technological resources to do it, it's that we don't have political wherewithal to let it happen.

Pardon, ce TGV français d'Alstom a été repeint pour quel marque de boisson? Sorry, this French TGV from Alstom has been repainted for which brand of drink?
@TohaBgood2
@TohaBgood2 3 года назад
@@azelsaga6921 I think this model was specifically developed for the US based on the same model as the new TGV trains. The US rail safety standards are considerably more stringent so they have to literally reengineer the entire train. That's why Alstom is building the new Acela trains here and even have a pretty large local engineering department to deal with the design changes. Unfortunately, this also means that the trains are a lot more expensive.

I can't imagine they're planning to hike the price much in conjunction with more frequent service. Higher price = less ridership, and presumably they want to have the trains filled as much as possible.

2021-2025 and what they would have needed is borrow European Train control system since that signaling system used by European high-speed rail it's meant for speeds reaching 220 mph-250 mph 350-400 km/h. Current signal system is up to 170 mph 270 km per hour this was how the original TVM 300 French high speed rail signal system once operated until an upgrade in 1990 & 1994 Channel tunnel Paris North Station originally Waterloo London United Kingdom now St Pancras max speed 185 mph 300 km/h. 2006 200 mph Paris Eastern France & Frankfurt rhein-main Air Force Base via Kaiserslautern US Army base.

I've rode on the Acela, a very smooth ride, and it was very fun. I'm gonna miss the Acela when 2021 rolls around. It has to go eventually, because they're starting to age, just like the E60 and AEM-7, and kinda, the HHP-8. They will always remain in the history book of Amtrak, and the national rail corporation. (All aboard America, all abooooard, Amtrak!) Yes, Amtrakguy365's ending xd
