I nominate Amy Blaser. Amy has endured the loss of a beloved spouse and has powered through hardship on her own. She works three jobs, including the one at Hammond-Henry Hospital as a cook, and she genuinely cares about making others’ lives better. In addition to dressing up for holidays, including a full green-faced witch costume at Halloween, she takes the time to talk to everyone who goes through the line and offer a happy or funny comment. For me in particular she brought over a lighted candle on top of a red velvet cake when she learned I was having a ‘date lunch’ with my husband the day after Thanksgiving. She’s just an especially kind person who makes her way through this world doing niceties behind the scene. I feel her being named Shining Star would be a fitting tribute.
