Just a light pressure as you slide it across, you have to experiment to find the sweet spot that will make the nice sound, every handpan is different. Some more easy, some more difficult

Beautifully played! I'm so close to choosing my first handpan and sort of felt compelled to go with a D Kurd as the 'standard' for beginners but I am so drawn to the E Sabye. Would it be crazy to start with a Sabye and maybe follow up with a Kurd later?

None of my dings ( I have three very nice handpans) sing when rubbing the Ding. Any advice?

Experiment with pressure (it's a fairly light touch) and direction that you rub in. Make sure the ding is clean. Some dings are more difficult - especially if they are shallow - while others sing easier. Out of all my pans, my two meridian handpans which are stainless steel are the easiest to sing

No amplification, just the friction of my hand across the ding, a bit like a singing bowl or wine glass. This is an E Sabye 14, a lovely scale. Thank you!
