According to Even Stanley, one of the IDW writers, Sega sees Sonic as liking Amy, just not the kind of person to make big romantic gestures

The reason why Sega is so afraid of making Amy more expressive and featuring her love for Sonic is because of the haters. There are people who see her feelings for Sonic (or the character in general) as a problem. No matter how strong or tame Amy's feelings for Sonic are portrayed, it's *never* enough. We have one side saying she will always be a problem while the other side says she's boring now because they ran out "problems" to complain about. Even Sega doesn't know what to do with her sometimes because they're trying to please everyone. Amy is at her happiest when she's with Sonic or adventuring with him. You can have her as the "mother" of the group *and* be in love with Sonic. As long as the characters share a mutual respect and don't undermine each other, there shouldn't be a problem. After all, they are maturing now and showing how deep their bonds are. Let me know when you read the IDW Comics.

You did a great job with this! I always liked Amy as a character and you did her justice with this video. I don’t know why writers nowadays act like it’s a bad thing for girls to be in love. For some reason, they think a girl being in love with someone makes them weak and they could never show any emotions. But Amy Rose is a perfect example that being in love doesn’t make someone weak. She is passionate and very caring towards others. She’s not someone who easily gives up and believes in others. Like you stated in the video, she is a good judge of character and can see the humanity in them. Also, a little something that doesn’t get mention. In Sonic Heroes, she teamed up with Cream, Cheese and Big to find Chocola, and Froggy. When they were starting to lose hope, and when they were scared of entering the Hang Castle, Amy was the one who encouraged them not to give up and to be brave in a scary location, reminding them of why they are doing this, to find their friends. So, amazing work! Thank you for making this!

I really like Amy Rose, she brings such a cool dinamic to the series, and your video really summed up my thoughs on her Now, talking about Sonamy, I really feel like Sonic is growing to see Amy more than just a friend in Frontiers, his interactions with her on the start of the game look... different than usual I would say, and also has his cut monologue from Sonic Frontiers (yeah, it's cut content, but it shows that Sonic Team is trying something new) where Sonic says: "I wish we where sharing an umbrella, Amy" which is like a common romantic trope in Japanese media, and in the other cut monologue, and the more explict one, he says: "Amy, I should have made my mind sooner..." Also Sonic liking her but being shy makes total sense, since it's another common romantic trope in Japan

6:58 I am SO glad you emphasized this point, which I've always seen others largely overlook. The fact that they had a moment that cut out from that entire moment of hectic crisis and high emotions where they can stop everything that's going on around them, cutting through the BS of chasing love to just have a heart-to-heart understanding between the two of them. Shows that while Sonic's playing Amy up as a nuisance and going through the chase, that it's really all just an unspoken game to them, and when they need to they can stop with the game to be genuine when the time calls for it. As for the Meta Era, I honestly feel like with the shuttering of the Archie comics and loss of even official Sega characters, that they've tried to mash Sally Acorn's role and personality into Amy which...I'm still not sure how to feel about. I'm tempering my emotions, though, because there's more on the horizon for what seems like a slow-paced expansion and progression. also Sonic Battle version of Amy is the worst iteration. It's literally out of character, and feels like extreme filler to fill a plothole as to why Amy's fighting style is the way it was and to allow her story mode script to exist.

I think is they just took how amy was in murder of sonic she would be perfect bubbly but also hot-headed silly but also caring not just of people but all living things Amy's dynamic with the cast in the 2000s was her at her best in my opinion and if she's in the movies i hope they learn from those games and this video

My favorite depiction of Amy has to be Sonic Origins Plus. Her being playable & her moveset works in these games, it's as if she could've been a playable character all these years, it took them 30yrs to finally do it. Also, this Pink Hedgehog may be the reason I now speedrun Sonic games (the levels, at least) Sometimes, I'll try to speedrun the entire game. Did it with Sonic 1 & Sonic CD.

I definitely recommend her two solo comic runs from the Flewtway Comics and Sonic DreamTeam(if you have Apple Play). I'm also surprised you didn't mention Boom Amy, she's amazing.

I am so happy you are talking about amy rose, she is one of my favorite female sonic characters and I don't care what anyone says she is underrated. I love how despite everything she goes through she can put her love aside for sonic the hedgehog and even normal girl things and help other's in their time of need and she is powerful in her own right.

I would say true maybe she shouldn't be just a mature and happy person like in frontiers but i would say it's really getting her better like i think that she has to be more stand up for what she believes and stands up for everyone while also playful and just happy to be there while also being mature and maybe for added character maybe only in the comics and cutsences( i don't see how it could work in gameplay) but i feel that the more triggered and more "i have to fight for this" side could show in tense moments like while shes defending someone or standing up for what she belives(and also her friends) and in really tense battles her more aggressive side could show that way the antagonists have something to fear and afterwards she can feel somewhat embarrassed when her friends see it for her outburst because she wants to can it(i feel that it isn't that she gets mad alot that is ), and she can show her emotional side at the end of games like the x anime did. and true this is just me but she has been having great moments recnety that no one has been seeing like in a sonic staion live! (its kinda like tailstube) and in one of the episodes she was making a cake for sonics bday and see says that she dosent what sonic to know and she says "I dont want to be a bother to sonic. I wanna watch him running carefree all over the world. I'll just catch up to him if i have to!" and thats the moment she became my favorite. And i would say sence the sonic comuinty wants a mix between then and now amy i would say look at idw when she was introdued she liked sonic but she found him for a diffent resoan (to rejoin the resesance) and this comic basicly comfrimed that they are baceily playing and amy contany make jokes to bering him back and amy even trys to bribe him to make him join back join back and as a joke he says yes but not for her not for anyone else but for a chilli dog so it shows that the are just playing and they show make a good team while fighting and even thought he dosent rejoin the resience she expes it because he likes to do thngs his own way and thats why she loves him. And i would say he dose like her back but it grew overtime frontiers kinda proves this and one of the idw writers says that he dose like her and theres abunch more evendence from then and now and ill doubt that they will date in the time where the games take place but i feel that they will leave it up to the whatcher. i think he just dosnet want to at that moment in time. also sorry i wrote an essay

Nice video. Personally I love just about every aspect of Amy as a character, which does include most of the meta era and I really like her in Sonic Boom, showing a more mature but still fun loving side of her. What she also said to Sonic in the second issue of IDW is also a great big development point for Amy, showing she still loves Sonic but doesn’t want to force him to like her in the same way as she does for him. All of this is like you makes her one of my favourite Sonic characters and favourite characters of all time. 💕💘✨⭐️

I think Amy in general is a fun character and, like you pointed out, is a character with a ton of potential. I find classic* Amy's design really adorable, and the IDW take on her works for what it is, I feel. Same with Modern Amy in the sense that the dreamcast era games, and the newer games center more around her being a passionate girl who sees the good in other people. And she tries to appeal to that, whenever she can. That she's someone who has a fiery spirit when needed, and that she's more than earned her place in the main group that can keep up on her own merits. I appreciate that frontiers, and origins actually acknowledge her Tarot card hobby, as it gives her something else to enjoy beyond just sonic as they used to do with her during the early meta-era, and sonic heroes, and I genuinely hope that, much like with that Apple Arcade game, Sonic Dream Team, that we see more of her, doing her thing, and trying to make the world better by appealing to others' better sides. Also I don't think Amy should stop occasionally teasing being all lovey to Sonic. I like your idea that they seem to have this sorta back and forth going that they're both in on, so I hope that doesn't disappear completely

Amy was definitely a character that needed more time to be relevant due to her early obscurity, but Sonic Adventure definitely helped introduce her to many players with her girly but strong personality and her unique gameplay. Sonic and Amy's relationship is a lot more mutual and respectful than most people think and those moments of mutual respect like the time she saved Γ are always appreciated to see from these games. Amy convincing Shadow to fight for Earth was also a small but impactful scene that really did help with SA2's story. Nowadays she has a "Tails" situation where she isn't utilized to her potential but Sonic Frontiers was definitely a step in the right direction for them & Knuckles. Hopefully we'll get to see Amy improve more in future titles even if she is a bit more bland at the moment.

Before watching; I like Amy's interpretation in IDW and onwards. Her relationship with Sonic has calmed down drastically(I never liked the whole chasing song-and-dance), but I agree Amy nowadays seems more tired than the go-getter attitude that fans enjoyed in the early 2000s(I saw something similar with Purah in totk, come to think of it). Keeping the Resistance organized must have done a number on her. Unlike a lot of Amy fans, I don't have any complaints in that department. Tangle, as awesome as she is; her enthusiasm is a bit much for my tired brain. That being said; I think Amy's single best characterization is in IDW Sonic #2. Amy's love is very prevalent, and they're relationship is on point! If I were to redesign Amy(I am NOT a fan of the hoop skirt), I'd give her the athletic gear she had in the Olympics, make it red, and throw in her wrist rings to go around the center of her cuffs, reminiscent of Riders!Amy and Shadow's inhibitor rings. Oh, and make her fur a more concetrated Pink, like in Super Stars, as opposed to the nearly white. Since Final Horizon, I've been conflicted about Amy's Character Typing. I always wanted Amy and her iconic hammer to be a Power Type, but with the change in focus to her tarot cards in Final Horizon, Frontiers!Amy is unquestionably a Speed Type. Ideally in the future, I think Amy's skillset should contain a better balance between her hammer and cards. Let Amy use the Piko Hammer to attack, spin, and maybe stomp like the Hammer Wispon, but also let her use the Card-based high jumping, stomp jump, and gliding. And let's throw in the Peel Out from Sonic CD for good measure(yes, I am very normal about the design of the Dream Friends from Kirby Star Allies why do you ask?), because that's her debut game, and that deserves some homage. I don't ship Sonamy, but I do ship Amy with Trip.

the tarot card thing was only briefly mentioned in a game manual and not an actual integral part of amy's character. seeing characters who can roll into balls , scale mountains , and fly with their tail , makes amy's tarot card hobby made into an ability , very lame and completely out of place. that would be like if sonic summoned chilidogs to to float in the air. it's very forced and she already has her own unique gig which is her pico-pico hammer , one of the most badass things in the sonic franchise. if people wanna call amy "creepy" or a "stalker" , need i remind them that amy is 12 ?? that's just how kids that are in love act. tails is 8 and arguably "obsesses" over sonic more. that's because sonic is their idol and inspiration. heck even i obsess over sonic. that's kinda the point. and sonic isn't getting abused or anything , it's literally a gag. deep inside he appreciates all his friends , but doesn't show it. that's why i hate frontiers depiction of amy . it's too politically correct by not allowing the female character to be feminine. now she's gotta be one of the boys with her floating tarot cards. how badass. she doesn't love sonic anymore , she's so independent !

Can I be honest and say I'm sick that every time this fandom opens their mouth about Amy it's always BS that comes out of it? Not you, mind you, but years of hearing the same old shit that Amy was this and this and this before Sonic Boom (or rather Lost World) lobotomized her got tiring. Like, those people will never like Amy, why change her to appeal to them whilst ignoring the fans that liked her for who she was? If you ask me, I never hated Amy, and a lot of the time she's in conflict for if I like her or Kat more. With a person like her, you'd expect her to move on from ever chasing Sonic after experiencing near death on Little Planet, after all, adventuring doesn't seem to be what a girly girl is after. NOPE, she instead doubled down on this life, what she needed is to experience it to want more of it, and after going through the trouble of going to a massive flying fortress, fighting her captor and defeating it, all for a bird, it shows that she won't ignore issues regardless of how small. As for her crush, when "fans" propose removing it, they're ignoring how much Sonic has done for her, she's THE guy that gave the guts to keep going and despite loving him, she also wants to stand side by side with him as equals. They're cut from the same tree in terms of... most things really, both can be impatient, cocky, never stay quiet, and are willing to focus on the little things before engaging with the bigger picture, if there's a better partner for him, it's Amy. If this girl ever wanted to give up, she would've, after all, she's a mutt of dust compared to Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. But while Sonic was saving Angel Island and... -fucking around in Sonic Forces- , Amy busted her ass off in multiple attempts to catch up. Think about it for a second, she struggled to beat Zero, the most basic of the e series, but now she'd be able to beat 10 or more of them without breaking a sweat, and probably be fast enough to hit his core without the electric fence. To me, it's a little unfair how quick this fandom is to erase her efforts in an attempt to keep her as far away from the main cast as possible: Removing the abilities she's gained, removing her role as the female lead, removing her personality, and all she can do is play cheerleader until she gets the chance to redeem the rival of the week, all while carrying a glorified toy that breaks often. I'm often bothered by the fan comics that have her not doing anything BUT playing mom for the boys because "she's not as cool as Blaze or Rouge" or she's shouldn't because (insert BS power scaling excuse). See it from Amy's perspective, she would NEVER stand on the sidelines regardless of how serious a situation is, and she'd rather be outside fighting than staying at home or on a base playing mission control, and even if she falls, the story ends until she wins.

For me, the new Amy is not as cool as the old Amy. I always liked the funny moments, and his true personality.

I think definitely over the years I had such a complicated relationship with Amy. I loved her then hated her and now loved her again. I apart of me realized I saw myself in Amy down to the chasing my crushes (oof that was a childhood stuff) and being so passionate about things that I was too kind to everyone’s eyes. I definitely don’t mind her relationship with Sonic but I definitely in the boat of Sonic being that childhood crush and one day Amy just finds someone else (*cough cough* Shadow *cough cough* I mean what). To actually have a protagonist not get the girl in the end is what I come to like about Sonic series to really contract him from Mario and that super cool guy. Plus, with them all being the main four in my eyes, I feel like it’s more of a family bond now. Though I do love Sonamy in Boom verse they were wholesome there and can’t deny they were cute. I’m also glad they are playing to Amy’s strengths again and giving her tarots stuff, but I wish we would actually see these “side characters” get mainline games or side games again to actually utilize their full potential.

Hearing you call her just "the pink one" and "girl" hurt me so much.😂 Sonic X was...weird. I liked it as a show, but it was also so not canon and bad in other ways. Aside from Chris, the shoe also felt WAY too focused on shipping. It constantly played at Knuckles and Rouge. It gave Tails a plant girlfriend. It pushed Amy onto Sonic even more and made him fluctuate between an annoyed brother like figure and an aloof guy who maybe is kinda into her being his groupie. The current Sonic seems more based on Sonic Booms variation of Sonic. Sonic Boom Sonic was very clearly into Amy. He has never been shy in his life. It was more about him being afraid to be vulnerable because he felt it made him seem less cool and he was ALL about ego in Boom. Amy was a character I always loved growing up. I saw her as a role model up until I was in 5th grade when I saw how bad her behavior and thus my own was. I apologized to the guy I treated the same way as Amy treated Sonic. And he and I became friends. Even now to this day as full grown adults, he and I are good friends. And I have always hoped since the day I apologized to him and got over him, that Amy as a character would do the same. That Amy would grow up, get over Sonic, maybe apologize and be real friends. That she could become an independent woman who didnt need to chase after a guy who clearly never wanted to settle down and be with her. If Amy needed a husband, it should be someone oyher than Sonic. Since he wants to be free and run and she deserves to have a man commit to her and settle down. As long as it is a healthy relationship where she doesnt force herself on someone.

Amy's a good character. Just not when she's obsessing over Sonic and being obnoxious about it. Her best iterations are both Sonic Adventure games, 06, the Archie comics, and Prime.
