I like how Michael McGlynn doesn’t just sit aside and compose songs for the group to sing; he sings WITH them, among them. And he sings with FEELING; his voice always soothing and pleasant to listen to. Shows how dedicated he is to his work. This is beautiful. Gives me something to listen to. I’m not into long drawn-out thoughts but I just thought Anuna should know how much they’re appreciated. Thx guys.

This is, I think, the first version of Scarborough Fair I've seen in a while that doesn't use the counter-melody that Simon & Garfunkel popularised in their version. And much as I like the Simon & Garfunkel version, I like this very much as well.

I for one think the song sounds like a man remembering an past love, and so it would make sense for him to smile at the fond memories.

I have never heard such harmonies. I only just discovered the Celtic genre a couple days ago, but I'm pretty sure Anuna is my favorite sect of the genre I've heard so far.

I wrote this and then realized that said 8 years ago, not months or days, but anyway if you haven't heard them you might want to check out Celtic Women. Different style, much larger productions, but worth a hearing, IMHO since you like the genre.

The arrangement of the instrumentation on Greensleeves was beautifully emotive and matches the vocal delivery perfectly. The whole thing is lovely. I'll definitely be sharing one of these videos for my fans to hear, I think they'll like it.

just bought a ticket to see Anuna in Alkmaar's Great Church early next year. I remember celebrating my birthday on the 14th of December a couple of years ago with an Anuna concert, one of the singers on stage had her birthday too. The beauty of 'Jerusalem' almost made me faint. One of the best birthdays ever! Can't wait to see you in 2012!

Two more evocative arrangements by Michael McGlynn and gorgeous performances by ANÚNA. Greensleeves, followed by Scarborough Fair. Both feature violinist Linda Lampenius. By writing his original introduction and obbligato lines for the violin, Mr. McGlynn has elevated this music beyond an arrangement and closer to a composition. Well done, musicians of ANÚNA!

@TheGreatUtopiaCat
@TheGreatUtopiaCat 8 лет назад
+Kayla Pratley what child is this is based off of greensleeves no?
@claypots47
@claypots47 7 лет назад
"What Child Is This?", was written in 1865 by William Chatterton Dix. Dix wrote the lyrics and set them to the music of the English Folk Tune Greensleeves, which has it's roots in the 14th century. Dix didn't write music, he composed the lyrics and set them to popular songs, such as "Alleluia! Sing to Jesus!" which is set to a Welsh tune known as Hyfrydol.

There is a persistent belief that Greensleeves was composed by Henry VIII for his lover and future queen consort Anne Boleyn. Boleyn allegedly rejected King Henry's attempts to seduce her, and this rejection may be referred to in the song when the writer's love "cast me off discourteously".
