Simple KLN90 tutorial, but it does cover a lot of ground with a rather exciting conclusion at the end and a couple mishaps along the way. The key thing to keep in mind is that some features don't work exactly the way they would on the real unit, but for general work the GPS works great.

Thumbs up just for the go around. Not many people would have done that in a sim and I'm glad to see someone doing it right.

Anyone knows if this setup is still availiable in X-plane 10? I still fly actual hardware (JS32) with this antiquated but still funcional navigator in it. For the Garmins there are PC based trainers, but couldn't find any for the Bendix KLN 90B. A X-plane 10 setup could do that trick😁

Amazing tutorial! I have a questio: Are you familiar with the IL-62M? The plane also have the KLN 90B. Is there a way to navigate the route automatically? Or is just setting the HDG in the route and stay alert to the wind and turning points? Like the way you did in the video. For exemple, in the mordern planes, we have the NAV/GPS switch, and when the GPS is on and you press NAV the plane follow the GPS route. Is this possible with the KLN? Or the IL-62M? Sorry if this is a dumb question haha.

Not a dumb question. Unfortunately there is no way to couple the GPS to the roll channel of the Auto Pilot that I know of. The GPS is really more of an assistant in that plane than an integrated component. I know there is a plugin on the .org that allows any aircraft to have a custom autopilot that may be able to be coupled but I haven't tried that yet.

Thank you very much! I imagined that would be like this. Old russian planes are not easy things to fly. But I love the challege hahaha Thanks!

When you are flying this plane where/when/how are you supposed to use the "auxiliary turbojet"? Do you just advance it with the other throttles?

That little jet engine is a combination APU for starting and extra booster for taking off extremely short runways. It's pretty useful except that it only exists on one engine nacelle causing the aircraft to pull to one side pretty agressively. I almost never use it except for starts.

@@PGatcomb Thanks for replying. I suspected as much. By default all three throttles seem to be moved with my throttle controller, it's pretty annoying to have to trim against. I guess there's a way to bind it to just the two props. Or rather than just leaving it at idle do you just turn it off after you get the main engines started? I kind of glossed over the startup part of your other two videos, re-watching them now.
