Thank you so much Zeinab, you are simple a wonderful woman, I am from Nigeria and most of our Nigerian schoolers are only informed about the post independent history, and majority have forgotten that prior to the formation of all the African countries that all the tribes existed as kingdoms, clans, and empires and we do not basically have the so called African countries as they existed today. We also existed as tribes, with our own ways of life. If one needed such an information, it's should rather easier to get an answers through different ethnic groups that exist within Nigeria.
Thank you Zeinab. Africa has been changing in colour and languages. But we need to look forward and get rid of European Borders, increase intra African trade.
Zainab Al-Badawi is a beautiful black Sudanese faces on international satellite channels. Since 1998 AD, and until now, she has worked for the BBC channel, initially in the field of news, then she specialized in conducting hot television interviews in her banned television program “Hard Talk,” or “Hot Talk,” and she sat facing many international figures and presidents. She is very proud of her Sudanese, African and Arab identity.
Sadly we are not accustom of reading, even our educated class not read. I get bully by educated class here for reading, they thinks its waste of time, making money by any mean necessary is all the talks.
She did a great job but It' s better to read cheikh Anta Diop the "African Origine of civilization" and precolonial black africa. Cheikh Anta Diop Masterspiece is the best one.
It really does justice to the African people and lands to be able to tell the history of both through a Afrocentric lens rather than the Eurocentric one that we have had to learn. One would almost think that it’s either ancient history or post colonial history and then a huge gap in between the two where apparently nothing went on .
Zainab Badawi speaks so fluently and so well that it is an absolutely wonderful to hear her. Congratulations to her for her new book. I do remember watching the documentary presented by her.
I extend my deepest respect to Zeinab Badawi for her kind opinion on the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. Her genuine and balanced insights are a testament to her profound understanding and commitment to our African nation’s development🌍.
Thank you Zeina for your marvelous contributions to African history. I really admire your articulated knowledge on African political-history as well as your journalistic career as you have become a role-model for many of the Africans who my have ambitions to engage in journalism.
Reading this book now! I have read a few books about Africa's History before but this one is different and very informative since it centers in ancient African civilisations, not on the usual perspectives of European scholars. Based on reliable sources and interviews and written in a very appealing, easy to read style. Watching this interview was very enlightening and inspiring too. Congratulations to prof Zainab Badawi. Ps: Amazing to know that Mastanabal won a gold medal for Numidia at the 164 BCE Olympics... 2168 years ago!!!
I am proud of you Zaineb Badawi, and I know you speak many languages not only English and Arabic, I used to live in Sudan and Saudi Arabia and now in Sweden, originally I am from Eritrea and I follow your programs not only BBC news but the history of Africa you started on Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, the blue nile and others.
Kudos Zeinab. I actually serviced some of the meetings of UNESCO's International Scientific Committee on the history of Africa and it was fascinating. I will look for your book to buy. May I say when you talked of Africans writing you missed the opportunity to state that Africans invented writing 3400 BC ( or is it years ago) and that the Kami or ancient Egyptians were teaching history. Herodotus went to Egypt to study history. The Europeans claim he is the father of history but say nothing about the Egyptians he studied under. Manetho would be the father of history for Africans.
Great work. Love the idea of pan Africanism. Africans have a communal system of living. It is based on every member of the community being your brother's keeper. Raising of Children were seen as common duty of the community . They can be corrected and disciplined by any elder. The council of elders were custodians of law and tradition. Buildings and farming were largely cooperative work. This is communalism is more real and indigenous to Africa than democracy.
The Ancient Egyptians were Black no matter how they are trying to refute this. In 1526 an author stated that there were no Native Egyptians left and that they had been overrun by Arabs.
@@jjsparksshow4772 Yes. Zeinab is walking a fine line because the Egyptians are taking people to court if you portray the ancients as Black. She knows the truth. The Sudanese Black Arabs are actually killing the indigenous Black Africans by ethnically cleansing them. They want no Blacks in that region. The indigenous Ethiopians are also Black. There are several communities. They are not spoken about but if you search the web you will find them.
@@njemilenantan2269The Arab Republic of Egypt actually caused a meeting on One Africa in Aswan to be moved to Detroit. They also cancelled a show of a black American comic Kevin Hart for saying that African Americans should remember when they were once Kings and Queens in Egypt. Then there was Cleopatra on Netflix cast as African American. Big hoopla. She was actually greco- Egyptian so one drop of blood...Also a Dutch group that had been excavating in Egypt for 40 years had their licence withdrawn because they organised an Egyptian exhibition with Rihanna and Beyonc as Egyptian queens.
Just like Kofi on oral traditions, I also have memories of my mother during my pre-teens and early teens telling me that her people travelled from the "north"meaning North Africa to Ghana. She is infanti whilst my father is Ashanti. As a black person here in the UK I'm mostly looked upon/viewed as Caribbean even by Africans because my hair looks mixed though I am 100% culturally Ghanian.People are often shocked when I reveal that I am from Ghana. Both parents.Needed to touch on this because I also have always felt a strong connection within to Jewish ancestry..I love Zeinab Badawei,I remember feeling so proud seeing her for the first time as a Newscaster I think primarily starting the journey for black as well as Asian women to follow/though I'm a man.For me she epitomises the notion of positive inspiration for All Africans and non African ethnic minorities in the UK.God Bless her.❤
Thank you very much Zeinab for telling our own history from our own historians. I wish though that you would have given more depth in your answers in the Q & A sessions especially regarding colonial rule. There was a big difference between the French and British approaches. If one looked into the French-imposed Pact for the continuation of Colonialism which he coerced Francophone countries to sign, you would have seen the great injustices of the French to those countries. Another issue that was worth explaining is that Imperialism and Neo-colonialism are at the heart of the continued problem in the continent today. The Colonial legacies are entrenched and until they are uprooted it would be virtually impossible to progress.
Thank you very much for this great work Zeinab! The fact of the matter today is that the economy of most African countries is not yet advanced or globally competitive and that allows external viewers to make any form of self-pleasing stereotype about the continent and its people. The low economic development is just but a manifestation of a lack of people-to-people contact which is gradually changing in the 21st century. It doesn't make sense to say that a people who have lived for millions/billions of years have no history.
Perhaps Zeinab could have received well detailed information about the history of southern Nigeria if she had gone to University of Benin, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Ibadan et al. Still proud of Zeinab's work, nonetheless.
We Ethiopians believe that Ethiopia's writing started much longer than Bedawi said. We have 3 biblical books such as The book Henoc/Enoch & Book of Kufale prior Books of Moses for instance in Hagiography & parchments. To mention least, we believe, Priester king of mediam Yotor/Raguel, the Ethiopian, father-in-law of Moses, copied these books from heirlographics into parchments , Subean writings on tombs, stones, coins etc Considered as a man of wisdom version of king Solomon. We call the early documentation in the form of "T'elsom" combination of graphic + symbols Some even believe that Moses's Genesis are sort of peliagarism from Yotor. As it has beeb stated in the bible that Mosses learnt a lot from Yotor. Besides, priests during Egypt Pharaohs era, known as intellects, were from upper Nile, Kushites, which encompasses Ethiopia. What Zainab mentions of the 3rd C AD, actually 350 AD is its transformation from consonant only writing.
@@serenityshalom7387 King "Eth-Op'is" is a descendant of Aknahus Saba II (One of the 3 sons of Yoq't'an from whom "Aga'azians" named after) is Tigrian. His Tomb is situated at Axum. Even the naming of Ethiopia is rooted from Tegaru. Anyways, Some mentioned by name of its king as "The land of Ethiop'is", as it has been found inscripted on the wall of Egypt's Pyramid. Others mention as "land of Aga'azian" during pre Axumite era. While, some prefers through its Empire, mentioned as Aksumite Empire/Kingdom starting from 300BC. In short, the naming depends upon the caller. Whether someone mentioned through Empire, Anssestory, or nickname, all are the same. Be it Habesat- Saba- Aga'azian- or Etop'is, or Aksumite, all represents THE TIGRIAN PEOPLE & their civilization.
Thanks for bringing African civilization, people thing civilizations start in West, but it’s true Africa was civilized before European! Thanks sister, we wants to see many of you😂
Thank you Mrs Zeinab Badawi for sharing with us your in depth knowledge of an African history but did hear you saying Ahmed Gurey while answering a question of a Ethiopian guest?that Ahmed Gurey was part of Ethiopian history? That is wrong!Ahmed Gurey meaning Ahmed left handed in Somali language was a freedom fighter,Imam of Awdal Sultanate in northern Somalia. We call him the man who taught Ethiopians to eat raw meat because he used to attack at night when they lit fare woods to cook till they stopped and that forced them to consume raw meat! His attack was basically to stop the Abyssinia spreading to our land and remove the colonial rule in the Somali territory.Taking the history and heroes of another country and writing in books or memos will devalue the meaningful of your work.
Prof. Hugh Trevor - Roper of Oxford said in the 1960's Africa had no history that could be taught. In 2010 former French President Sarkozy said in a lecture to university students in Dakar that Africa has never been present in history and Africans were not adventurous. Who wrote Africa out of history and who peopled the world? The game Europe is playing is to destroy and deny the understanding of Africans of their own history.
Has the "Garden of Eden " location been determined? The location according to the King James Bible is directed from the North down into the southern central region of Africa, where God introduced man and female. Where it is assumed the World's beginning of humanity of the orginal people (?) All Land was One-Land Mass (Earth) before the flood. Governing Africa is the responsibility of Africa without outside of interference with control of all sectors.
Absolutely fair to dig out history and maintain it for the residents of the continent but it is crucial to reveal it to the other continents' world as well. Btw, a funny question about Russia and China from a man of collective Europe and America which exhausted cultures and riches of Africa and still going on getting resources from there ( both mineral and agricultural) . Now the collective Europe and America still holding hands on African treasures point at Russia trying to distract everyone from the real case😂. Moreover, they even dont mention Soviet Union helped a lot to African countries like friends, not like slaverers or capitalists, building their wealth on blood, sweat and natural resources of Africa.
So is his perspective is how do we continue to colonize Alkebulan and to ensure his foothold in Alkebulan. Origin versus alliance means two different things. For over two thousand years his Origin was ensuring the oppression of aboriginal Alkebulans. So why in ten years are we to believe all those beliefs have changed and how will that benefits those in those village that Unesco is now so concerned about
I do not really believe that the Arabs and Europeans would allow her to tell a 100% truthful story regarding Africa, especially the Invasions of Africa by Arabs, Europeans and others. Although, I will buy and read her book and see what I find.
40:59 Obviously, she has to be diplomatic and skilful. When a UN Human Rights experts group toured Britain and declared that the country structurally, systemically and institutional ly racist the Tory government simply denied and dismissed it. Thus, she is doing the best she can under the circumstances.
The Lebu People of Senegal had their origin in India. The Ibo, are from Jerusalem Bantu are also migrants from Persia The Taureg People are from America Egypt for first Built by Mayans who migrated to India, set to a Naga civilisation then went on to Egypt. Ever wonder why Tutankhamen the Egyptian diet, whose symbol is a Green Ibis bird indigenous to South America.
The Lebu like the Serer people would be from ancient Egypt. At least from Cheikh Anta Diop's NATIONS NEGRES ET CULTURE. There is book titled LES SENTIERS DU NIL which traces the migration of Africans from Egypt to west, central and south africa. Africans were in the Americas before the Maya, Inca and Aztecs. See David Imhotep's book THE FIRST AMERICANS WERE AFRICANS. The Igbo would also be from ancient Egypt.
Of course Africans had writing. The ancient Egyptians and Nubians were Africans - black Africans - and they've had writing for many thousands of years. Not 'since the 2nd century', Zainab. THOUSANDS of years before that. But decent job in general. Thanks for your efforts.

"African" history delivered by what is essentially a European woman. Given the historical figures she chooses to highlight, one can see the hand of a modern progressive at work. Given that she was, in large part, drawing from a 9 volume series, I am prone to be sceptical until proven otherwise.
Those 9 volumes are dynamite if read them. Obviously, her upbringing and education are British, so this might be reflected in her work. Notice that other British or European scholars like Gerald Massey etc told the truth about Africa.
Why not call slaver Human Trafficiking? Cuz that's what it was; Abduction and Trafficking of humans. Also I don't understand when some claim that ethiopia was not fully colonized. The fact is that Haile Selassie left ethiopia and hid in Britain and ethiopia was fully colonized by italy for 5 years.
There's no such thing as African history bec Africa is not a country, but a vast diverse continent. With 5 races, 54 countries, 1000 distinct nations (wrongly called "tribes"), speaking 3000 languages and dialects.
1:04:19 is false, there were very many democracies in African communities, in fact the brand of democracy brought by Europeans ended up being less democratic than existing democracies in many communities thanks in large part to capitalism
GOD of the Holy Bible made all those whom were slaves, slaves! He made everything that ever was and not one thing that was made was made without him. We are his personal property. He can do with us as he pleases. All of whom read this and disagree go ahead sit there where ever you are and yell out loud “NO GOD OF THE HOLY BIBLE DIDN’T MAKE ALL WHOM WERE SLAVES, SLAVES, THAT’S A LIE”! Do that then see what happens to you. Challenge GOD of the Holy Bible if you dare.
You came with religion to confuse Africans and to take away their wealth... slaves are made by men not God... look at your Bible well... you atheist who quotes the Bible when you want and the next day you are promoting homosexuality which the same bible condemns Leviticus 17 and 18
So you're a historian 😂It's based on the history compiled by UNESCO World heritage, historians from all over the world.
