I finished Jackie & Me by Louis Bayard (reviewed it on Storygraph, pixie_d) and Vaster Wilds by Lauren Groff. (Refers to the same plague setting as Forever Amber and Year of Wonders -- there may be a three-way battle bracket in my reading future!) Am holding off on filling out the bingo card until the end of the month, as every book could conceivably fit into more than one square. Update: finished Restless Dolly Maunder and The Dutch House.

I’ve enthusiastically slotted books from my existing TBR into each and every prompt. 1~In the Distance by Hernan Diaz is set on the western frontier of early America. 2~Whale Fall by Elizabeth O’Connor is set on a remote Welsh island. 3~The Greenlanders by Jane Smiley is set in the 14th century. 4~The Murmur of Bees by Sofia Segovia is magical realism set in early 20th century Mexico. 5~The Burial Plot by Elizabeth Macneal features a couple of common Victorian crooks. 6~Doc by Mary Doria Russell is about Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp. 7~Corelli’s Mandolin by Louis de Bernières, romance in WWII Greece. 8~The Go-Between by L.P. Hartley is a 1953 classic set in 1900.

Thank you so much for the shoutout! Looking at your books on this PoP and behind you, have you read Mary, Called Magdalene by Elizabeth George? It blew my mind as a teenager and it's still one of my mother's favorite books.

I had fun making a list of books according to your prompts. I won't have time to finish all of them in June, but they're all books I own and wanted to read, so it's Ok if I keep reading past June. 1. From a country you're from: I live in the U.S., but I'm from Greece, so I chose a book I have in Greek by one of our most famous and indeed great historical fiction authors: "Serra: The Soul of Pontus" by Giannis Kalpouzos. It is set in the year 1915 "ahead of the Armenian genocide." Excerpt from an online summary I found in English: "As a backdrop to the fictional tale, the Pontus is sketched, painted and brought to life. We read of the population exchanges that took place, the racial cleansing that was led with the alibi provided by religion, fear, intolerance, and nationalism spread by the Neoturks and then the Kemalists, about the daily life during the first years of the Soviet Union, the pogroms against the Greeks during Stalin's time, the labour camps, in Siberia and the Steppes of Kazakhstan [...], as well as the passions, hopes, and wishes of the Pontian people" (Editions Psichogios.gr). 2. Set in a different country you're from: "The Dance Tree" (Dance hysteria in Strasbourg France, 1518) OR "As The Lemon Trees Grow" by Zoulfa Katouh (war in Syria) 3. New to you Historical Period: "A History of Burning by Janika Oza (1898-1972, British colonization in India and Uganda and Idi Amir military dictatorship). I know the absolute minimum basics, but I've never heard of Idi Amir or other details. 4. Magical realism: "Master and Margarita" by Bulkagov (I had started this one, so I need to continue) 5. Perspective of ordinary person: "Winesburg Ohio" by Sherwood Anderson (it seems to fit by what I read in the back cover) 6. Perspective of an extraordinary person: "The Maniac" by Benjamin Labatut: "[...] centered on the Hungarian Polymath John von Neumann [...]." I had gotten this when it was recommended by Ann Novela in one of her videos. 7. Historical Romance: "Love in the Time of Cholera" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez 8. A Classic of Historical Fiction: "Whose Names Are Unknown" by Sanora Babb, a contemporary of John Steinbeck. I only heard about this author very recently through my American Poetry Professor. It was written in the 1930s during the Great Depression. When she took the novel to the editor Bennett Cerf told her that he "planned to publish this "exceptionally fine" novel, but when John Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath swept the nation, Cerf explained that the market could not support two books on the subject" (From the book's back cover). I was told it's great. We shall see. It's just over 200 pages. Happy Readings to everyone! PS. "POP: Pile of Possibilities" sounds great. I love it!
