Recently, Ashley referenced "grateful jog" of a pedestrian, and I wondered, "is it just a coincidence ?" , and then Ashley confimed that it was not, by saying "Cheers Ogmios". That was a great inside joke.
Have you ever thought about offering actual SOZM paid lessons? There are loads of stress-head drivers out there whose wives or girlfriends would pay for this kind of thing. You could do 3 half hour lessons for £150 or something. I reckon you'd do well once the word spreads.
I love that new Ogmios badge on your profile picture, which is begging to be turned into a car air freshener. I could hang one in my car, and it would remind me to stay calm when Audi drivers tailgate me.
"As I considered the gender of my car" and im done... 😂 We 100% need to get a non aggressive beep horn fitted to all cars as standard tho. As good as Ash was, he is no Og!
I blame relays. My car horns are direct from the horn button on the wheel. A quick tap makes just enough contact for one to go boop. A longer press passes current for both to sound loudly ( with a semitone of discord between them)PARP!! Perfect. Non aggressive
I wanted to make a gentle double beep, but the button on the steering wheel is kind of hard to press, and I didn't release it enough, thus it became a longer, single beeeeep. It felt bad. 😅
1st time seeing this channel via Ashleys vid yesterday. I attempted to apply the methods of zen motoring to my drive today as a result, and oh my days, despite traffic and the sweltering heat and certain other road users, my usual road stress was completely gone. You definitely have a new disciple of the SOZM 👌 I've struggled with road rage for about 12 year since I passed lol, so having something to combat that is great.
16:08 Where I grew up. Fairfax road. Good days. You could still borrow a cup of sugar from your neighbours. The Shah familly across the street, next door to Osman and the Stavros family and Mr Dempsey next to us...proper neighourhood with all backgrounds and everyone got on and helped each other. There was an Indian fella called Charlie who had a newsagent on Greenlanes just off of Fairfax rd. ...we use to always buy our mum a pack of 20 silkcut...we had to wait until no customers were in the shop so it didn't look like Charlie was selling cigs to little kids. Shame he's gone. I miss those days
15:07 The Flanders Pigeon murderer. You ran over my speckled Jim! I ran over a squirrel once on a bit of road I was back and forth on. I saw the body turn from a squashed sqirrel to a sqirrel stain.
Ogmios. You're never too old to skate. I'm 37 picked up a cruiser board a couple of months back. I don't skate because I'm good, i skate because I like it.
Useless info 2018472: that boats and machines are feminine is about the last hangout of old old old English having gendered nouns like French n Spanish etc.
The trouble with pigeons is they're only good at being pigeons. At everything else they're crap. My milage is in the millions and I've never hit a gull or a corvid, but the pigeon yes, plenty of times, it's almost like they're retarded. I saw one once, it sat in the middle of the road and I watched a vehicle drive over it. It got ruffled and lost a feather or two, but instead of working shit out it just went back to sitting in the middle of the road. Pigeons are proper dumb ass.
Ogmios, I watch Ashley as well a bit so was quite intrigued to see this jv.... and its brilliant.... thanks Ashley for coming down and seeing what we deal with
Watching Ashley look at you while you're talking and driving with a almost proud and admiring smile just warms my heart. I respect Ashley so so much and this just sealed the deal. You both are a blessing to the UK roads.
before you even said it, i thought 'west green road would be the perfect hazard perception test', you need several sets of eyes to know whats coming, such a busy and narrow street. I think before i commuted on a motorbike for a few years in central london, i wasnt great, but after it really made me pause and be more aware (so many times people dont see/hear you on a bike) but Ogmios is always on my mind driving as we're in the same neck of the woods, and thats only a good thing 🙏
You need to come to California and start an online driving school. Don't know about the UK, but when you get a ticket here, you can take a online driving course to have the ticket removed from your record. They have all kinds - comedians do them. I would love to take zen motoring course to have a ticket* removed from my record. You could make so much money. *Hopefully zen motoring will stop me from ever getting a ticket. Cops will only stop me to commend me on my calm demeanor while driving the 405.
I watched Ashley's part 1, and was thinking, Ogmios should take him to Green Lanes, and then low and behold he did a left at Turnpike Lane! I think that driving Green Lanes, just as day turns to night, is probably one of the most interesting drives you can make - full of the unexpected and a great test of zen.
I love your videos. You are more zen than than you are motoring. I love the pace and I love the vibe. You remain still while the scene changes. Love Ashley also. Not still, but chill
The Prius's hybrid drive tends to react badly with the TfL private hire sticker and cause the horn to go off if the car's stationary for over 2 seconds. Best to just ignore it.
4:28 sorry to be a stickler here, but the driver didn't check all mirrors and blindspots before reversing, leading to the comment "another cyclist out of nowhere" when we know the they don't, it's just that you weren't observant enough...
Yeah fair enough. Although the cyclist behind us was a bit reckless too riding along the pavement and then cutting in front of the other cyclist from the right. I take your point though!
Been watching Ashleys videos for a long time now hes a great guy and a excellent instructor. First time ive seen your videos and i love the whole Zen thing, after training and now teaching martial arts for nearly 40 years i totally get it and putting into your driving is just brilliant. Looking forward to watching more of your videos and i love your 'ah sensi' comment when you saw Ashley 😂
I recognise the number plate of the beeper. They live round the corner. Tut tut ! I wish I had had driving instructors as good as you two when I was learning to drive .
Remember Ashely mentioning Ogmios in a video not too long ago and hoping we'd get this collaboration! And it didn't fail to please! The attention to the minutia, the small efforts everyone is making in tandem to create as smooth as experience as possible is a beautiful thing to behold once you have allowed your eyes to see it, to see beyond the miles of tarmac and cars "in the way" of ones destination.
I say you fail Ashley just to give him a reason to come back but that's just me... P.S. when I watch these videos I feel like I'm in a state of equilibrium, smile etched on my face, eyes welling up from the calming joy the video peacefully brings. Too good man thankyou.
A wonderful collaboration, I'm glad Ashley passed his test 👍 Maybe you could ask whether the type of vehicle affects your mood? I have a family car which invites smooth, regal progress through the traffic, and a sports car that makes me want to pass everyone and get impatient. I have put a simple one word reminder on the steering wheel of the lotus, it says OGMIOS. As a reminder 😎
@@Ogmioszen lol..love your videos..really has changed my point of view on driving..your voice runs through my head as I'm driving..what would ogmios do in this situation..road rage doesn't exist in our world thanks to ogmios
What I love about you Ogmios is you are a real north Londoner. I grew up where you are and seeing West Green Road especially the busy bits brings back memories. Thank you and keep it up bro. Keep it Zen ❤❤
Howdy the Ogmios one I Discovered a way of driving calm relaxed last weekend 400 miles each way in a Electric car, Had a free Car rental I was given a Polestar, Set yhe cruise control & Pilot assist And Relax I saw Views of the City of Durham I have never seen when hurtling past at 80+ mph steady 70mph and the lovely countryside of North Yorkshire became a attractive idea for my next trip. Carry on and Zen
Hi Ogmios, lovely video as always, great to see Ashley join for the collaboration. Very nice description and analogy of tai chi to your driving style, it's the balance of yin yang - give and take, nip and tuck, ducking and diving, - well said. Here's a little poem that you might like about tai chi and driving, courtesy of ChatGPT (credit where credits due): In gentle motion, grace abides, | Tai Chi and driving, peace coincides. | Balanced steps, tranquil wheels, they show, | A harmony in movement, serene and slow.
Og. So happy to come to your channel, after going down a nostalgic rabbit hole of your Don’t Flop battles - to find you sitting at 50k plus subscribers for your School of Zen. Truly a transcendent being whose calming energy, warmth, and wit translates far beyond whatever activity you place yourself in. Much love bro. You make the world a better place ✌🏾
Interesting video May I recommend a collaboration with dead pan instructor, Pin Binning from the DGN driving school channel on RU-vid? Would be curious 🧐
Driving podcast with Alexei Sayle mentioned Ashley Neal with Ogmios ambient motoring, a change from the zen school and I was treated to the memory of Springfield Park. Nice.
The sharing of your driving insights are international love in action as we do our best to follow your example of patient kindness behind the wheel here in Seattle, WA. My dream guest co-pilot would be Billy Bragg, for if not a mention of you in a post of his, we may still be unaware of your calming presence. All the best & be well. >^.^< Cheers!
Did Ashley watch you don't flop og? Keep the good stuff coming! I hear you are doing insurance advert voiceovers now too. All the best from a long time fan!
I ran over a pigeon one time. I was doing about 20 mph and he was just chilling in the road. Like Ashley I figured he'd just fly away. But then *bump*. Oh noes! When I looked in the mirror there was a big cloud of feathers like a cartoon lol. I did feel bad and couldn't stop thinking about it all the way to the end of the street.
Fifty quid to insure Ashley for a day?? You're 'avin' a larf! Ten years ago I only paid eighty quid *a* *month* to add my lad to my insurance while he was learning to drive.
If you drive in Liverpool, you'll be shocked at how long you have to wait when you kindly let someone out of a side road. Compared to London drivers they're really indecisive
