Tara, you have just been subjected to some of the best practical makeup effects ever! Rick Baker is a legend for this film alone. If you need therapy, I'm expensive, but available.
6:11 "This looks awful! It's so cold!" While filming this scene, it was so cold that once they cut, the actors ran to get warm and discovered that the rain froze to their hair!
Fantastic reaction, Tara! I'm glad you got the humor immediately. Most people go into the movie thinking it's just straight horror and then they're not sure if they should be laughing at things or not, but you didn't have that problem at all. Can't wait to see your next reaction!
Pentacle is the name of the symbol. Pentangle is the geometric description of the shape. He's calling by a school name, rather than a lore name. Both are accurate.
That guy from the American embassy is the great Frank Oz. He started as a puppeteer, known for his work on both The Muppet Show and Sesame Street. He looks the part so he gets those roles, apparently in person he's a super nice guy and very approachable.
The representative from the US Embassy that visits David in his room is Frank Oz. He's the puppeteer and voice of Miss Piggy, Fozzy Bear and Yoda. He also directed a number of films, including Little Shop of Horrors, What About Bob? and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. He has small roles in a number of films directed by John Landis who directed this film.
Great reaction Tara. Loved the fact that you weren’t put off by the abrupt ending and you totally understood that “That’s it… we’ll it is over”. Some reactors have a hard time with the ending which I actually love how it ends.
Great reaction, Tara! Despite this movie being released over 40 years ago (damn, I'm so old!), the transformation scene is probably the best ever put to film to this day.
my favorite part of the movie was how jack kept shoeing up getting more decomposed each time. Another great reaction Tara. thanks the practical special effects were done by special effects artist Rick Baker. that outro of the glasses smudges lmao funny bit.
Hahaha so glad you got a kick out of the glasses song 😂 I wasn’t going to put it in but then I thought…. I am who I am hahaha I’m so glad you enjoyed this reaction :)
Hey, Tara! So happy you did this movie. One of my all time favorites. The Halloween after this came out was the most horrifying and the best I've ever had. Such a great time to be a kid. So glad you enjoyed it.
Best part of this werewolf transformation is that it was all practical effects makeup. No CGI. also, it inspired Michael Jackson's Thriller short film.
According to the sequel, A werewolf can be cured if they manage to kill the werewolf that bit them and eats its heart. Since the werewolf that turned David into a werewolf was killed after he attacked him, David's lycanthropy was incurable. He was beyond hope.
This movie pulls off a hat trick that most horror comedys cant.. a perfect balance of Horror, Drama, Character building Comedy. If you liked this one, Return of the Living Dead (1985) is another one that gets it right. It's one of the first Zombie comedies but it flips the "rules' on their head... The comedy doesnt overshadow the horror element, and the writing is really smart and fun to listen to.
A small overlooked detail is that the doctors and cops keep telling David he was attacked by a lunatic, and he disagrees. Actually he was attacked by a lunatic. Luna means moon, and a lunatic is a person made crazy by the moon (such as a werewolf)
Awesome video. Since you were wondering, while he was pacing at Alex's flat, he left the door open. I'm guessing it was some sort of subconscious thing, kinda like he was never hungry. It was the wolf working on him somehow.
Jenny Agutter was also excellent in “Logan’s Run,” with Michael York, Richard Jordan, Farrah Fawcett, Roscoe Lee Brown, and Peter Ustinov. It’s an excellent movie, if you haven’t seen it.
Jack was played by Griffin Dunne. He's in a lot of stuff I like, but my favorites are a kind of dark comedy-of-errors movie called "After Hours" (1985), and the hilarious '30s gangster spoof, "Johnny Dangerously" (1985).
I do not like hurting animals, but I think that they should have tried yelling, "Bad David!" while smacking him on the nose with a rolled-up newspaper.
The reaction compilations at the beginning of the videos are great. Really dig those. I saw this movie when I was in my early teens, and was terrified by it, probably due to the tense atmosphere in the moments leading up to the scary scenes. It's a great film, done SO tongue in cheek, and I'm glad I learned to appreciate that as I got older.
10:30...I'm guessing the hospital have kept Kessler in and are concerned because he's been unconscious for so long (and he's been unconscious for so long because he has little werewolf antibodies running around his vascular system changing him in some strange lupine way)...or it could just be a plot hole 🤔 10:46...Mate she's Jenny Agutter and every man (& probably quite a few women) who were teenagers or older in the early 80s found her incredibly attractive 🥰
What was your favorite part in this, Tara? For me, it was David's first werewolf transformation in the nurse's apartment. He left the doors open when he was reading that book. That was why he didn't smash through the nurse's living room windows. It's a good thing he didn't or she might've got mad at him when he came back from the zoo. Red was David's color.
This movie inspired Michael Jackson's short film and music video "Thriller" thus giving Rick Baker, special effects and make up legend another job that was a part of the highest selling album of all time.
i went to a werewolf party and made a mixtape, i can only remember a couple the songs, one of them was Down and Out of Time by Sixpence None the Richer
Hi Tara! I loved your reaction to this horror/comedy classic and as a happy subscriber, I love your reactions/channel. Keep up the wonderful work, youre so cute, gorgeous and adorable :) I don't mind this movie (apart from all the scary bits & Werewolf images that have traumatised me for years that I mute/cover my eyes when they're on) and it was great to watch your reaction to it. It's writer/director John Landis got the idea for it over a decade earlier when he was in the former Yugoslavia as a 2nd unit assistant director, working on Kelly's Heroes (1970) a WWII comedy set just after D-Day... (Highly recommend movie btw.) When he saw a gypsy funeral with the body covered with something to stop the soul coming back to life and wondered what it would be like to be visited by a dead friend. It was filmed in February & March, 1981, the Yorkshire Moors scenes were shot in south Wales & actual locations in London. Rick Baker's incredible special make up effects have never been bettered and the transformation scene is the most horrific in movie history! Poor David Naughton spent multiple hours a day for a nearly a week in the special make up! And right up towards the end of filming the transformation scene, he had to go on a lunch break with all the make up effects/prosthetics on, looking so hairy and the cast & crew were all mesmerised & horrified at what he looked like!
Hahah that’s an awesome story! I’d love to have been in the set of this film and see how it all came together first hand!! I’m so happy you’re enjoying the channel, thank you for your kind words!!!
17:08: This always makes me laugh, because if it is a hallucination, then that means we, the viewer, are also hallucinating. What people don't realize though, is despite our beliefs or thoughts on what's going on, in a movie, everything is happening for real to the characters. Another great reaction Tara. Am loving your editing and intros too.
One of my favourite horror films!l was 9 years old the first time I watched it back in 1982.Scared the crap out of me!Still scares and makes me laugh to this day!Glad you enjoyed it!🐺
I'm really glad that you did this! I saw it as a kid, it scared the crap out of me, and it's been a favourite ever since. Everyone comes for the transformation and it's amazing, but I really love those little funny moments and the veteran British actors who pop up at regular intervals.
There is a long history of practical effects and often they will trump CGI. If you want to see even more amazing effects, check out John Carpenter's "The Thing".
This Is Where Michael Jackson Got The Idea For His Thriller Video,If You Watch The Making Of Thriller,He Talks About How This Movie Was The Inspiration & John Landis Directed The Video As Well
There's only one scene I remember from watching An American Werewolf in London as a child. I'm sure whoever seen this movie knows what scene I'm talking about. That Haunting Transformation scene.
tara you were right , how did david turn into a werwolf and get out of the flat without messing up the flat and jumping out of the window to get out . also why didn't other people in the same flat not hear him scream when he turned into a werwolf
Lol well a lot of people have been correcting me on this.. apparently when he went out for some fresh air, he left the door open, so after he turned, he just exited through it… But I definitely think some stuff should have been broken in there 😂
First time I watched this movie I was either seven or eight and it scared the living crap out of me and I said I'm never watching this movie again. But when I got older I gave it a second chance. Guess what I love this movie plus I got to see it on the big screen.
Lol I would guess most reactors, male or female, leave it in. It’s part of her character development and it’s kinda funny that she lays it all out there to him.
Hi Tara!🙂Great reactions to The American Werewolf in London!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽The embassy guy at the hospital was Frank Oz, the voice actor for Yoda, Miss Piggy, and several other Muppets. This film is best known for the groundbreaking werewolf transformation scene, and Jack's decaying corpse makeup.🙂
An American Werewolf in Paris is a loosely based sequel following another American who becomes a werewolf, this time in Paris hence the name, the cg takes a bit away from the transformation in the first one and the movie isn't as good, but I think it's atleast worth a watch
Why the villagers kept it a secret? I imagine at one time they did try to tell people and were ridiculed unmercifully, so they just decided to keep it their own business.
I'll be honest: I haven't watched the reaction apart from the little clip I needed for the scavenger hunt. I assume it's as good as your typical reactions, but I haven't seen the movie and don't want it spoiled... Oh well! See you in the next comment section, I guess!
So, if the "curse" is transmitted by a bite, then by medical science, it's categorized as a bloodborne pathogen. And if that's the case, it should count as an STD, too, right? Seems straightforward, but I've never seen that angle in a werewolf movie.
It likely has less to do with blood and more to do with the bite… and like… curse magic.. I assumed anyway As in… you could run up to a dead werewolf and drink his blood, and you wouldn’t “catch” the curse.. he has to bite you
I hear that song and my first thought goes right back to the First Season Finale of "Supernatural" (2006). It was the last song on the radio just before that Heart-Stopping CRASH...and it was still playing up until the Credits rolled!
A sequel was made, An American Werewolf in Paris (1997), the FX were...awful, nothing to compare to this one, they used CGIs mostly and it wasn't really the right time to do so. BUT, I loved it, because the characters, the story and the humor were just as good, If not better, as this one, the ending was very very different too (If I'm correct they made two endings).
@@TaraTunesIn Oh, of course...absolutely! I like to be funny and flattering but I always think before I speak, even IRL. I promise to always be careful.
The subway scene was also dumb because they're in London it should have been filled up with people since London is almost like New York when it comes to a bunch of people being there in the city
Wow this movie is frustrating. It's people overreacting, underreacting, not offering information and not heeding information. Other than the special effects, I'm having a hard time understanding why so many people love this movie so much.
@@TaraTunesIn True, usually there's one miscommunication that sets up a conflict, that get's the ball rolling. But this one is non-stop. The townspeople, the police, the doctors.... A great ending for me would be the werewolf killing everyone in the movie! 😀😀😀
